How do I know which hairstyle is right for my wedding day? |
| |
Finding the right hairstyle takes research, organization and planning. There are many things to take into consideration, including your current hairstyle and texture, the location of your wedding, as well as your personal wedding style. WeddingChannel.com deputy editor Summer Krecke recommends this five-part process: |
| |
Step 1: Find Your Dress
Your dress is one of the most important aspects of your wedding day, as it tends to set the overall tone for your look. "Your dress should be your guidebook for your hair, make-up and accessories," notes Krecke. "For example, a wild cascade of curls tends to look overdone when paired with an overly ornate wedding dress." Just keep in mind a romantic look demands a less structured 'do, while a modern style commands a simple, elegant look. |
 |
| |
Step 2: Decide on Your Wedding Accessories
You have your dress - now it's time to decide which hair and beauty accessories you plan on including with your look. Will you wear a veil? A headband or tiara? Feathered hair pins or rhinestone barrettes? Again, it's important that your choice match the style of your dress. "Less is more," advises Krecke. "Your goal is to accentuate your hair - not overpower it." |
 |
| |
Step 3: Do Your Research
Once you have a look in mind, it's time to hit the books. Pick up some wedding magazines and a few celebrity weeklies and start paging through them as you check for actresses or models with a similar cut, texture and style. Once you've find a few hairstyles you like, tear them out and place them in a binder. "Be realistic," suggests Krecke. "You're not going to be able to a big, dramatic updo if your hair is short and thin." |
 |
| |
Step 4: Schedule a Consultation
You vision is finally coming together and now it's time to let the experts take over. Schedule an appointment with a salon and spa in your area and come armed with your binder and list of questions for your stylist. How long will this style take to achieve? Will this work if I have an outdoor ceremony? Can this style stand up to a night of dancing at my reception? 'It's important to take all these factors into consideration," says Krecke. "Your stylist might have different look in mind and can offer suggestions to best fit your special day." |
 |
| |
Step 5: Do a Run-Through
After you and your stylist have agreed on a look that's right for you, the next step is to schedule a run-through a few weeks before your actual ceremony. Bring any accessories you plan on wearing - your veil, headband, tiara, etc. Your stylist will create your look, giving you the opportunity to weigh in on anything that doesn't fit your overall vision. "You should also consider scheduling your make-up consultation at the same spa or salon," advises Krecke. "This is the perfect time for your stylist and make-up artists to talk about their ideas and discuss ways to incorporate their shared vision into your special day." |
