Rx for Brown Skin

From tapioca and cinnamon to café au lait and chocolate, there are a variety of skin tones (and, apparently, delicious-sounding adjectives) that fall under the heading "brown skin." But no matter the shade, all darker skin—those of Latin, South Asian, African, South Pacific and Native American heritage—contains a higher level of pigment, or melanin, than Caucasian skin, which can make it more sensitive, reactive, uneven or prone to hyperpigmentation. In mid-2007, Harvard-trained dermatologist Dr. Susan Taylor launched the Rx for Brown Skin product line designed to target these specific concerns. Separated into three collections—Bright and Healthy, Bright and Clean and Bright and Even—the products aim to break the cycle of hyperpigmentation by calming over-stimulated melanin-producing cells and eliminating irritating ingredients. Instead of uneven tone-causing fragrances, lanolin and dyes, there's hyaluronic acid to hydrate and banish ashy skin, soy to brighten and replenish and pomegranate to impart anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories galore. Standout products include the Absolute Radiance Intensive Exfoliating Serum, which has been proven to reduce dark marks and discolorations in just 30 days, and the Naturally Flawless Botanical Brightener, a powerful combination of hydrators, anti-oxidants and 7 proven botanical brighteners. The new Virtual Peel kit, a 2008 beauty award-winner, contains masks to gently exfoliate dry layers and serums to smooth and hydrate; the results is a visible improvement in texture, brightness and radiance after just one use.
