This summer, two venerable skin care lines have developed new technologies that use antioxidants to boost the power of a regular SPF over the damaging effects of the sun. We put both lines to the test and found them efficient, strong and—happily—streak-free. Launched this spring, Clinique's new gentle, oil-free sun line features SolarSmart technology, which helps stabilize the potent formulation against UVA and UVB rays, and includes solar-activated anti-oxidants to protect skin against visible damage and signs of aging. The new technology is available in a SPF 15 and SPF 30 Body Cream, SPF 25 Body Spray and SPF 30 and SPF 50 Face Cream; all are easily-absorbed and help moisturize as well as protect. There's also an easy-to-carry face stick for on-the-go protection, and a hydrating Rescue Balm with Aloe—for those times when you forget to use sunscreen. www.clinique.com. Antioxidants also play a role in Dermalogica's UV Smart Booster Technology, found in their new Daylight Defense line. Upon contact with UV rays, the formula releases an active complex of Vitamins C and E that helps help fight free radicals and protect against sun damage without the need for higher concentrations of potentially irritating sunscreen ingredients. The line includes six products for the face—from Super Sensitive Faceblock SPF 30 to a water-resistant Solar Shield SPF 15 stick—and three products for the body, including a nourishing SPF 20 with shea butter and handy Solar Defense SPF 15 Wipes. A soothing After Sun Repair features a blend of homeopathic herbs to reduce irritation and redness. www.dermalogica.com --Sandra Ramani |
