old rooms that they rooms be charging $900 a night despite the nice water views. very overpriced for what you’re getting and I am not a cheapskate but look for pricing commensurate with what i’m getting. screaming kids who’s parent’s are clueless that their kids are disturbing others. yelling moms squealing on facetime. I thought I was going on a peaceful vacation. Not for me. I love dogs and have to 2 frenchies but seriously folks leave your pets at home. every other person had their dog. this is not new york”s central park zoo. It’s a resort. shame on the resort for turning the resort into the westminster dog show.

The hotel is well-staffed with mostly very friendly people. The outdoor pool is very nice. Beyond that, the property is obscenely overpriced for the condition it's in, and it's nothing like the pictures on the website. It's tired and dated. The elevators are tiny and scuffed up. The hallways are dark and drab. The room had mismatched, scuffed up, dated, uncomfortable and stained furniture, all oddly placed. The bathroom was NOT "spacious" as described on the website; in fact it was so tiny, it was difficult to get out of the shower without bumping into the toilet. There's also no way to turn the shower on without getting hit with cold water. The sliding bathroom door weighed about 50 lbs (not an exaggeration!) and if I'd been with a pre-teen or an elderly person they would not have been able to operate the door. Also - bring your own washcloth as they're not provided. As for food, the dinner menu is very limited. My partner has a dietary restriction that they refused to accommodate with extremely simple substitution requests (he asked for a basic green salad and bread - and they stated they didn't have those things, even though they appear on the breakfast and lunch menus. Shouldn't have been that hard but they flat-out refused to even ask the kitchen, and he spent that evening hungry and unsatisfied so we ate off-property the rest of the week.) The new owners have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to be able to continue calling this a "resort."

Nice place for a drink. Little overrated and the service was lackluster.

Salmon dish was incredible. $22 for a weak drink.

Ate at the pineapple on Sunday night. Had an amazing time courtesy of the manager Lauren

Everything was great. Pineapple club so fun, view unreal. Would recommend to anyone visiting.

This Resort really is not worth the price . Paid almost $1000 a night to get put way out of the way behind all the bathrooms because we brought a small dog . $75 each night additional just for the dog … yet they don’t give any kind of dog treat like most places we stay at . No steaming channels on TV ! You can only bring your dog to one small place to eat at part of the Pineapple Club . View of the water and sunsets are amazing …. But I’ve stayed at many resorts for half that price and are nicer ! Would not go back !

My friends and I stayed at your hotel this past weekend to celebrate my friend’s birthday. We had a wonderful stay but wanted to particularly point out the excellent customer service provided by the manager of the pineapple club, Marielle. She was funny, friendly and went above and beyond. One day it started raining while sitting poolside and we just ordered food right before the storm came. Even though it was a little hectic with all the guests running inside before the storm hit, She personally made sure that our order came to us. She is absolutely wonderful and we want to give her a million stars if we could.

I live locally and decided to come by last night with some friends. We had a little food and spent a few hundred dollars in total. We were sitting outside and enjoying a fire pit when they all of a sudden all turned off without warning. About 5 minutes later all of the lights just went out on us. Basically like get out. So rude and no warning!!! If someone had just come over and let us know it would’ve been fine. Nope….just get out. And it was 11:15 too, not like it was 1:00. Won’t be back.

Weve stayed here for the last few years. Nice atmosphere. Pool is great, rooms a bit tight. All in all we like it, and will be back. Our most recent stay, we left behind a draw full of cloths and $1500 in cash ????. Called up the following day, when we realized that we forgot it,,, housekeeping had EVERYTHING in a bag waiting for us, Gurneys FedEx’d the clothes and cash direct to me the following day. Thank you for that.

It's a great place!

Over priced, very poor staff. Lost power for two hours. Didn't seem to care. Next time I will go to Hampton Inn. Don't waste your money.

Gurneys truly is a beautiful place to vacation or staycation it’s calming and relaxing. The staff are very nice and will take care of any concerns you may have. The hotel is east to navigate, and the amenities such as the outdoor pool are amazing.

Dingy rooms, indifferent staff and room rates that are way too expensive for what you get. Stayed for 3 nights for a wedding, I have stayed at many fine and hotels and this is NOT one of them. The room was dark and lighting was poor. The bathroom had no exhaust fan, corrosion and and mold on the ceiling, missing door handles and a phone that didn’t work (despite asking for service 3 times. The towels were scratchy and my brother in law almost used a folded towel that looked like a crime scene had been cleaned with it (disgusting and unacceptable). One morning there was no hot water. Views were nice from parts of the hotel but not worth the money.

One of my preferred places to visit in New England. Once I cross over the bridge to Goat Island I know something magical is about to happen. Summer vistas at sunset overlooking the bay while a deep house DJ spins. An ice cold drink by the fire pits. A perfectly made bed just waiting for me. Paradise. The drinks are amazing. The staff is attentive and friendly. The prices are worth the value. The rooms are updated, understated, and refined. I haven’t had any food there yet! Pros: location, location, location, beautiful hotel, cocktails, nightlife, ambiance Cons: pricey, banquet food was probably my top 10 as worst I’ve had Go for the view stay for the cocktails and cool vibes into the wee hours of a summer’s night.

Gurney's Newport is an internet catfish, clearly capitalizing on their more successful business in Montauk. It is obviously a recycled Marriot hotel - quickly put together with minimum repairs to make it appear more “swanky” in the lobby when it is just plain outdated and dirty when you really get inside. Our room was not at all what internet photos appear it to be. Then skip to the part where their amenities lack in every department. Our massages at their Seawater Spa were lackluster and could have been done better at home by myself, but also rushed to the point we didn’t receive the full 50 minutes we paid for. They were cleaning the locker rooms and turned off the lights before we could even walk out to pay. Talk about unwelcoming. Lastly and the worst part was the in-house restaurant where almost every guest around us complained of bad food tasting “old”. It was stale and gross. When we complained to our server about our inedible food she replied “it doesn’t matter, I am not paying for it”. It is beyond obvious this hotel’s staff needs an overhaul. They simply don’t care about the guest’s experience and couldn’t care less about making them feel welcome. Disappointing with the high price point to stay here. Over all: overpriced, terrible staff etiquette and terrible quality. The absolute most disappointing experience at a so called luxury resort. I have had better experience at a Super 8 during emergency storm relief after a hurricane. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

A nice location right in the center of the bay. Very picturesque. Rooms were kind of dated and the HVAC did not work well. Lobby had loud music playing in the evenings which was annoying.

This is the thing. It's not 1960 anymore. The Gilded age is a bygone era. This place is beautiful, the location. It needs an update. Stat. There is new money now-days, they need to make sure their plugged in. The needs are different from the "generational" wealth that called the Gurney home for so many summers. The Gurney needs to bridge the gap between today and 1960. Everyone should feel welcome. It's great to have history, what about your future? You need bartenders at your pool bar that can serve ppl that is used to efficient service. The dirty tiled ceilings in the conference rooms, the old chipped paint and wood throughout the facility...the resort fee for water, wifi and parking, are you kidding me?! If you can fetch up to over $500 a night during busy season, not one person checking into Gurney should pay for those items in addition to the nightly rate. Yeah, I'll pass.

I typically do not write negative reviews. In this case when I write a review to the general manager telling him the property needs a major face lift and I get back a message, thank you for the positive review, you have to believe they don't take the surveys seriously. I told them the staff and house keeping did a great job but the rooms need major updating. I have stayed at this property a few times going back 20 years and nothing has changed. The furniture in the rooms are very worn and needs to be replaced. It is a great location and it's a shame that don't update the property.

Great Personnel at Gurney's a splendid service

We had an Amazing experience. Our Room had a great view. The service was excellent. Friendly and helpful. We had an Amazing dinner. The sea bass and oysters were to die for. Breakfast is a must. The smoked salmon toast was the best. Bring your wallet as the meals are expensive. Worth every penny of it. The service was above par. The waiter was very knowledgeable. Can't say enough about this stay. Perfect get away!

Absolutely beautiful property. Professional staff. Great restaurant.

One of our go to places in RI! Always solid and a great escape even off season

Booked a Travelzoo deal at Gurney's Newport that included a nice bottle of prosecco at check-in, and a great full breakfast included! Recieved an upgraded view room - corner king on a high floor of the tower NICE! Expansive deck off the lobby with nice fire pits that we really enjoyed!

Excellent location and a terrific staff makes Gurney's a good choice for a Newport vacation. It's a little expensive but you get what you pay for. Our room had a great view of the bay and bridge. The bathroom was small with a sliding door that didn't shut all the way. Also the furniture needs serious updating. The grounds feature nice areas to sit and enjoy ocean views with a fire pit and Adirondack chairs. A quaint lighthouse adds to the charm. The restaurant was pricey but seemed very nice. If you can afford it, this is a terrific place to stay when you're in Newport.

We went just for lunch not overnight. Although the menu is limited, it is excellent and well appointed. The server Ayla was extremely attentive, friendly,& prompt. This was our second time coming here. Our first time was brunch. Again, great service, limited menu, but worth the view and service. I personally wouldn’t bring children as the menu as well as the atmosphere is more suited to adults. Food was very fresh and mostly healthy selections. We will return here for sure.

The food wasn't great and wasn't worth the price. I had the pork loin

Beautiful hotel. Quite and relaxing stay. Or room overlooked the water at sunset and it was beautiful.

What really set this place apart for me was the service. Luc was absolutely incredible and assisted us with several things ranging from ripped clothing to contact solution among other things. The most professional and helpful hotel employee I’ve ever come across. 5 stars.

We loved our stay here off season. The property is beautiful with sweeping ocean views. There are Adirondack chairs and fire pits outside to use while enjoying a drink and the views. In the summer when all the furniture is set up with the pool and outdoor bar open is amazing I’m sure. Not sure how crowded it gets or if it’s hard to get pool chairs etc in the summer. I’m guessing it gets pretty crazy here. But we took the east walk to town for dinner and walked back. It’s not as far as I had thought before. We chose not to stay here in the past thinking it would be too far out of the way, and it definitely is not. They even have a shuttle if you want one. We had lunch and breakfast here and the food was good. Rooms were nice and beds comfortable. Everyone was very friendly and nice. We will be back for sure! LP World Travel

The food was incredible! Everything from Showfish restaurant was amazing. All the supporting staff that served us were incredibly nice people! The entire staff was so friendly, EXCEPT FRONT DESK. The guy working there, I forget his name was so rude. Not just once or twice. Every time over the course of our few day weekend. He needs to retake hospitality training and learn how to provide good service. Although we had a wonderful time with everyone else, that 1 guy ruined it for us. But I would do it again just to eat at Showfish again. Amazing food there and nice people.

It was not as described. Room was small and the additional money spent on a room with a view included construction out a window that would have had the best view. It wasn’t horrible but for the price I’ll be looking elsewhere for our next stay. The room was clean but the hallways were not vacuumed and during our stay it did not seem at all busy.

Attende a a convention, the facility and staff were excellent.

Recently we visited for a romantic weekend for our anniversary. The staff, the food, and the room were fantastic! We loved Erica, Amy, and Srdan! They were so amazing and made our trip so perfect! Everyone was so friendly and genuinely took interest in make sure we were having a great weekend! We wish we brought our dog but plan to next time! We truly think this is the best place to stay in Newport because it has so much charm being on goat island. The coffee shop, restaurant, and bar at the hotel were great! There is an easy shuttle that you can take that runs every 30 mins right to the wharf downtown. Takes 10 mins tops! We also visited the spa and loved the treatment. Visiting Newport was the best weekend get away and the team at Gurneys made it so nice!

I celebrated my birthday this past weekend at Gurney's Newport and had a wonderful experience. Started off at Seawater Spa with a wonderful facial by Arlene. She and the rest of the spa staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I can't say enough about Leilani at the front desk and Leia our server at Showfish restaurant. Both of these young women went over and above to make my stay memborable and special. My only disappointment was the lack of updating needed for this hotel to maintain a 4-star rating. The rooms are spacious and beds very comfortable, but the decor needs updating.

I decided to go to Gurney's for my fiance's birthday celebration. I prepaid through my company's site; I did pre check-in online but when I got there the Attendant told me my card did not go through. I told them to check it again because there should not be any problems. The issue was they were trying to charge me about 700 dollars for a holding fee when my room was already paid for and I was only staying one night. After which I was made to feel uncomfortable. Also, the jetskis do not work anymore due to guess misuse but because the front attendant did not know this she sent the maintenance man all the way upstairs just to tell us that. So overall nice hotel, good restaurant. The rooms are comfortable, just wish my first experience could have been better.

We loved Gurney's for the ice skating. The price is affordable, and the view is amazing of the Pell Bridge.
Dawna G.
So completely disappointed. After staying at this resort for many years we were beyond disappointed with how downhill everything has become at this resort. We traveled over school vacation week just to hear that our children were not able to skate. We received several answers ranging from there was a storm yesterday to today it was too warm (none of this made any sense and they were clearing the ice while we where there)???Many other patrons were also completely confused by this. Please know there are so many other choices in the area and you lost our business in the future.

1st time go there amazing we went for ice skating, beautiful view ocean of course the Newport bridge

This place is advertised as a swanky, high-end, luxury resort and spa. But in reality it’s closer to a Chucky Cheese or low end Disney report. There are more kids and infants in the hotel bar then adults. Booked this place as a romantic getaway, and instead spent most of the weekend trying to find a place to enjoy expensive drinks without being disturbed by baby strollers or kids running and screaming around the lobby, patio and hotel bar and restaurant. Look elsewhere if you are looking to get away from your kids or others’ kids. This is where rich people bring their kids.

Our stay at the Gurney was delightful thanks to two every special staff members. We were first greeted by Dave, the valet attendant, who made us feel welcomed. He was kind, funny, and personable. His willingness to talk with us and get to know us was a refreshing sense of guest services that is a rare find these days. We then had dinner at the restaurant. We had two dishes the risotto paired with chicken and the whole fish Branzino. I personally love Branzino. It can be hard to find these days. So when I saw it on the menu I had to get it. The way Chef Phillip Jackson prepared it was out of this world good. To start it was deboned. I have never had deboned fish and it was so nice to just enjoy the tender fish meat. The fish was well seasoned and crispy. I drizzled the fish with the roasted lemon. I was dancing in my chair it was so good. The risotto paired with chicken was delicious. The chicken was moist and well seasoned. The risotto was both complimentary to the chicken but not over powering. If you are true foodie, you have to experience it. We even ordered an extra side of risotto to have with the branzino. To say it was delightful is an understatement. Chef Jackson’s cooking was the best part of our stay. We both wanted more. We left dinner with full bellies and happy hearts. Before leaving we were talking with Dave and raving about the quality of the food. Dave offered to introduce us to Chef Jackson. It was so kind of Chef Jackson to take the time to talk with us and share his inspiration for the food during his busy day. This moment in time speaks volumes about Chef Jackson’s passion for cooking and people. His cooking is outstanding. The Gurney is lucky to have Dave and Chef Jackson. We have stayed at the Gurney in past, however this visit, was the was the best we ever had. Thank you to Dave and Chef Jackson for making this experience one we will never forget. We will certainly be back soon.

I took my girlfriend to ice skate for an hour, for a valentines date. The skates seemed like they were all bought at the dollar store, and did not feel safe at all. When we went to skate, the rink was closed off for the zamboni. It took them almost 30 minutes to finish grooming the tiny little rink. We had to leave after only 25 minutes of skating. Just go somewhere else.
Kymberly S.
Dated but beautiful views from room. Food was good, but nothing exceptional for price.

We enjoyed our weekend getaway at this hotel. The location, grounds, and staff were excellent. The balcony from our room was the highlight of our stay, especially when it was snowing in the morning. The in run nespresso machine was our favorite in room amenity.
Elaine Y.
Stopped in to take pics of that fabulous ice skating rink right next to the ocean and that darling lighthouse. So awesome. If you're in Newport, a must see. Stopped at the bar for a cocktail (to warm up) and met a great bartender , Amy. Fun visiting with her.

This is a classic case of Instagram vs. Reality. This resort is nothing like its website claims. Do not fall for it! Dingy rooms, broken elevator, horrible communication with staff. We lasted for 20 minutes before swapping hotels. Highly recommend driving 5 minutes away to Forty One North hotel.

Our daughter got married last week in Newport and we arranged for our guests to stay at Gurney’s-Newport. What a horrendous mistake!!! The list of catastrophes and shortcomings is too long and painful to repeat here, but some highlights (or lowlights) include uncleaned rooms (uniformly and repeatedly), lost luggage, no bar service, no dining service and surly service when “service” was available. Two exceptions were the front desk and bell staff, who – while severely undermanned – did try to provide “service.” Particularly galling was the repeated lies we were fed by Food Manager Jonathan Pelletier who promised us twice that he would provide normal-hours food service for our guests – food that never arrived. And all of that is not to mention the outdated and tired décor and small (cramped) and dark guestrooms. This facility is leagues below other Gurney’s facilities we have visited AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS!!!! [Footnote: While the hotel management is too uncaring and inept to respond, I hope they will avoid the gratuitous/obligatory “apology” that our stay was “unsatisfactory” as that would miss the mark. It was HORRIBLE – not “unsatisfactory.” AVOID!!]
Rachel R.
Staff and service were thoughtful and accommodating! Pool and fitness center were clean and stocked. Breakfast and dinner at Showfish were great, and the views from Goat Island were breathtaking. Room itself could use a little facelift and the mattress/pillows weren’t all that comfortable but otherwise it was a great experience. We’ll likely be back.

Wonderful walk from the point over the causeway to watch the skaters..

First time staying here and it won't be our last. We had a great time here and they took great care of us. Thanks again!

We recently celebrated our daughter’s wedding in Newport, RI, on New Year’s Eve. The celebration was phenomenal. Our stay @ Gurney’s of Newport RI was anything but. Our group booked over 30 rooms, including 4 suites. The “reduced block rate” for our rooms was roughly $289.00, totaling over $350.00 per room, per night, inclusive of fees, with a 2-night minimum. The suites were considerably more expensive. Our stay was marked by disappointment after disappointment, starting with our arrival. While Gurney’s home page touts it as “The Most Beautiful Hotel in Rhode Island,” a designation granted it purportedly by Architectural Digest, it is not. The rooms and common areas are dated and in desperate need of renovation. That is where the flattery stops. We and our guests encountered myriad plumbing and drainage problems in our rooms; my son’s luggage, tuxedo and rehearsal dinner suit were sent to the wrong room following his arrival, causing us to be late to the rehearsal dinner; and, adding insult to injury, on New Year’s morning, we and our guests waited nearly two hours for our meals before being asked “why we were still sitting there,” as our food order had been cancelled. The Food & Beverage Director, along with another manager, were directly involved with and aware of this fiasco. Too many details to enumerate here. The two female waitstaff we encountered were rude and surly, and that is me being polite. Do yourself a favor. Don’t stay at Gurney’s. Have a drink at the pineapple bar in the Summer to enjoy the grounds and stay somewhere else. Patricia Mulligan

This one really is cute and the service is there too, especially on Christmas Day. With so many hotels to stay at it's difficult to know which one will make the stay truly that vacation and hotel experience feel. This one seemed, with the small amount of time I was there, one of them. The service seemed to work on the second with drinks arriving detailed with every consideration. The location speaks for itself. The small ice skating rink--photo worthy and appointed with benches and skating bears--is there to get your winter fill of cold outdoor fun. It's an easy jaunt from the warm cozy indoor space. The well situated, spaced, and graded outdoor patio seating is decently enclosed with individual spacious igloo tents that both young and mature seem to coo with a request to fairytale dine. The overall feel is a darker more ghostlike space with privacy to meander between activity zones. Overall more similar to a larger hotel at the mountain or a big hotel in the city and less of a small b and b or upscale motel in the Alps.

Nice place with great views. Just stayed there on 12/18 and found out after the fact they charge a $25.00 resort fee. It wasn't until I read the fine print did I understand I was responsible for paying that. Very disappointed in this practice. Don't hit me with a hidden fee after the fact, do it when you book. I will be calling to discuss this and will update my review based on how they respond.
Jaye Aster B.
I’m reviewing evening winter ice skating only. It’s beautiful and fun to ice skate outside. You’ll see the lit up light house at Gurney’s and the bridge at night but won’t quite see the water. It’s easy to rent skates. Because of the size, it is more crowded on Friday night 7-9pm skating. Your feet will be sore after skating. We walked through the hotel lobby and outdoor igloos to get to the rink.
W A.
The place is not worth the hype, decor needs updating. The restaurant was not worth it.
Pebbles R.
Went tonight with my husband for our wedding anniversary for the charming igloo and the entire experience was spectacular. The food and drinks were delicious, the atmosphere and ambiance was romantic but mostly our waiter Syrdan made it all the more special. He was on top of it all with recommendations, his warm nature and hospitality. He made our anniversary all the more special. I will definitely recommend this to all my family and friends and will be back. Thank you!

Rude woman named TIFFANY working at the front desk. Had a bad attitude and I tried to ask a question but she wouldn't let me finish.

Very strong breakfast selection. Prices are up there for breakfast but the quality and portions are more than appropriate.
Kai S.
For the price that they charge I was incredibly unimpressed and truly disappointed. Upon checking in the girl at the front desk was extremely sweet. Then when I got to my room it was super small and you can’t open the windows which I hate. The heat will randomly blow cold air on you which is really strange. My Wi-Fi didn’t work the entire time I was here which is super frustrating and annoying. I placed a room service order online which got lost when I asked about it a different woman at the front desk was so rude to me to the point that it made me feel upset seeing as I hadn’t done anything wrong and was very gracious and understanding. They charged my card $300 as a hold without even mentioning a thing. The gym was nice the indoor pool is very small. The hallways smell like Fabuloso. Honestly if you’re going to pay anything over $100 for this place you’re getting completely ripped off. Tack on a resort fee of $25 in the off-season for a water bottle, and some other amenities. I mean I just don’t get it. There’s definitely a snobbiness to this resort. I would recommend staying at a different place.
Chintal P.

The rooms do not look like the pictures on their website. Our room was very much similar to what you can find at a much cheaper double tree hotel. The door was dented, the carpets were cheap, overall the room design was ugly - very different from what’s advertised on the website. The value for money is absolutely terrible. You could get a much better stay with Airbnb or another hotel chain for that price. Oh and there is a $25 resort fee, maybe it’s for the extra slow wifi or the small and dark gym that nobody uses.

The only reason why I booked the spa at Gurney's was because I was promised a reservation for 4 people at the same time. Otherwise I would've done the spa at hotel Viking. So I called for reservation 3 weeks in advance, the receptionist dropped my name, and name of my party members. This is how I thought that I was set with the reservation. I was wrong. A few days before the actual spa visit, I was called by the receptionist to remind me of my reservation and I said yes, I am still going. On the day of the spa visit, I was told that I had only booked for 2 people. Instead they wanted to have me do the 50min spa treatment back to back, so it would take 2 hours. Nobody has that time in the world to sit and wait an hour, that was the sole reason why I booked here. Instead of honoring the agreement, they most definitely gave away my treatment reservation to another person. Honor and Trust come hand in hand in this industry. I can't trust the masseuse and receptionist to not have any ill feeling towards me when I'm in my most vulnerable position with my back exposed. A huge disappointment, as I was looking forward to this spa treatment. They didn't offer the 80 minute treatments anymore so 50 minute treatment was the only option. Instead of earning $560, they earned $0 instead. I am forever disappointed in Gurneys and their management policy. This is why I would not expect good service in the hotel due to my encounter at the spa.

This hotel was just fully remodeled a handful of years ago. The main lobby, restaurant on site and especially the outdoor pool areas are the highlights of this property. Gurney's definitely has the nicest hotel pool area in Newport although the downtown is a good 10 to 15 minute walk so consider that before you book your stay.

I hate leaving negative reviews but our stay here was not good. The staff was all really nice , I’d give them a 5, but the actual accommodations are run down , dirty , and not well kept . After night 1 I requested a different room because there was a ton of mold in our shower. We were moved from 3304 to 1410, which was a smaller room in front of the ice rink . I told the front desk it was my husband , toddler and I, and they moved us to a room that had zero noise cancellation (soulja boy was vibrating through our walls at 8:30, which I know isn’t late, but when you are spending $700 a night and trying to relax while trying to get your toddler to sleep, it just doesn’t really work). It just seems like guerneys bought a run down property , threw some beat up IKEA furniture in the rooms and called it a day.

Wonderful location.

Worn and rippled carpet in convention / ballroom section. Smelled musty. Overall feel is a bad 70's slightly worn Reno. Beautiful pool and lawn area.

**Perfect and romantic place**

You get what you expect for the price for a resort on the water. Pretty, good service, but small outdated rooms

We had a fabulous lunch here!

End of the season, was nice and quiet. Great view, and lovely setting

I understand that there is bound to be a mediocre room that faces the parking lot or is noisier than others at every hotel. I do not understand why that room would cost as much as a month's rent for a two-night stay. We paid almost $1700 for two nights at what I imagine is one of the worst rooms in the hotel. We were on the 3rd floor with a corner double view of the valet parking station, and therefore had to keep the curtains drawn for the duration of our stay (blackout shades only, no sheer privacy curtain to be found). We had no hot water whatsoever for our entire stay. The front desk told us that they were aware of the hot water issues in this room. We could hear the guests above us discussing the lack of hot water through the un-soundproofed ceiling. The music from the lobby was so loud we could hear the words to every song all night both nights. There was loose, visibly exposed extension cord wiring that made the lights go out if the cord was jostled by, say, plugging in a phone. My family lives in Newport and Jamestown and I've been coming for 25 years. I was in town to empty out my Grandmother's house after her funeral. My parents also stayed at Gurney's -- their room, inexplicably half as expensive, was a very pleasant suite facing the water. I don't know what happened with our room, but it was a bad, dismal stay for over $800 a night.

We had a beautiful 2 night stay here. Amazing customer service and just a pleasant staff. Cozy yet modernized rooms. Located on a gorgeous island of it's own! This place is a must stay.

Beautiful establishment, went for wedding, the staff was awesome.
Ryan S.
From the website, this place looks amazing. But when you get there....the rooms are small, the pictures of the rooms they have on the website are not what all of the rooms look like. I suggest calling and asking for a specific room that you see online. The view was nice, but there are plenty of other nice places in Newport where we will stay next time. You have to pretty much drive or take the shuttle into town...unless you like a long walk. I see this hotel for business rather than pleasure. It was clean.
Jim H.
Nice location and very calming by the water!
Stephen K.
Views are some of the best in Newport. Lobby and restaurants are great. Rooms seem a bit dated but do the job
Sara D.
Rooms are spacious, some of the rooms/bathrooms need updating. Staying on the south end of the property is a bit much, it feels like your on punishment
Michael S.
No hot water two days in a row. Room wasn't ready at check in.
Letitia S.
Loved working here through my company. Good staff and chef

Amazing hotel at the base of the Newport Bridge!
Jayshalee G.
Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Very clean and comfortable room. Only flaws were that the water took quite a while to get hot and the hallways were very dark.
Dr Joan M.
Spent a weekend here…lovely….had stayed many times at this hotel when it was Hyatt and was pleasantly surprised that it was just as great as Gurney’s.
Jake M.
Wonderful place, looking forward to going back.

Kohl at the front desk is 10/10 for customer service. He is so sweet and accommodating.
Chip M.
Great location on the harbor. I hosted 20 colleagues for a three day meeting and the hotel and staff did an exceptional job of accommodating all our needs. Despite the current staffing issues the staff worked around the clock and went the extra effort to make all our events great. From an arrival reception on the deck to breakfast every morning the same staff showed up and was working overtime to make it pleasurable for all. The New England Clam Bake on the lawn was memorable for the weather, location, and food . To those of you that are showing up to work --we thank you!!

I got married last weekend at next-door Belle Mer, but we booked a suite at Gurney's for the long weekend and to act as the bridal party suite on wedding day. Gurney's was fantastic. Not only did they clean the room extremely quickly, but they were fast to bring up a garment rack and spare vanity mirror when asked. They also delivered a bottle of champagne and some chocolate-dipped strawberries! They were able to accommodate several large breakfast reservations as well as a very large group that came the night before out by the firepits...even though we didn't give them the full number. They were amazing. There's a water taxi nearby to get to a few different locations around the harbor, and also a shuttle van on the half hour to Bowen's wharf. Add free self-parking and you've got a home run here.
Erik D.
Overall a good hotel stay. The facilities could certainly use some updating especially given how expensive it is to stay here. Everything was clean. Friendly staff. We were here the same time as a wedding. There needs to be better noise control to avoid rowdy guests coming back to their rooms after midnight and not taking other guests into consideration.

I expected alot more for a $1200 room,it was an $150 a nite room I guess marked up because it's Newport.. We loved the sites ,sound and shopping. Because of the boat show we decided to eat in at the resort, not really sure why they already closed some of the restaurants for the season with boat show and the wine festival this weekend. We had a 730pm reservation got our salads at 830pm got our overcooked steaks at 930pm 2nd try at Wifey's steak10 min later and the check for $300 at 1015pm,seems to me a $300 meal just like the $1200 room should have raised my eye brows a little more. To sum it up staff was good ,resort is about 10 years behind in maintenance, furniture is old and dated. The part that blew my mind the most no vending or room service after 930pm,we looked at rooms not on the water that had vending ,munchies. Next we'll go to a well known name brand. Please if you want to splurge on you and your wifey go toa casino and put it all on red 13 don't come here. Paul V

My main problem is with labeling it 4 star hotel. It is not well maintained, lots of mold, rust, weeds. Perhaps was a good 4 star hotel some 50 years ago. Sadly it is still a decent option in rather expensive Newport. Has nice sea view, good service and staff, shuttles to the town every 30 mins, bicycles, outdoor pool and bar.
Kenianth L.
Beautiful place with the most humble people ever. The staff super kind and the service excellent. I loved the place, the view, and I loved working together with them. Definitely would go back.

Very old hotel. Some of the hotel has been renovated (lobby is beautifully decorated). It used to be a Double Tree or Hyatt. The shower was pretty gross - moldy / old grout/caulk (forever unclean). For some reason, the toilet paper holder was only 3 inches off the floor, BEHIND the toilet. There are hardly any plugs to charge devices in your room, and some did not work at all. The phone to call the front desk didn't work. However, the beds are very nice and comfortable so sleep was great. Check in at 4pm is pretty late. When we asked to see if we could check in early, they literally laughed in our face which was a little rude (or maybe she was going crazy because they were understaffed)? They have a shuttle that runs every 30min that takes you into town and back which was really convenient. Cold bottled water and towels by the pool. Easy to get a chair to sit by pool or around the property. Fitness center is old, small, and has little air flow (felt humid...add some fans / air conditioning!) and it overlooks the indoor pool. Coffee bar in lobby closes really early. Business center is a small, armpit-smelling room with two computers. THANK GOD they had some clocks on the wall telling me what time it was in Palm Springs, Memphis, and some other random city so I could get my business done.

We visited Gurney's Newport for a bachelorette party. The location is perfect. The resort was beautiful and they accommodated our requests to have adjoining rooms. We enjoyed lunch at the pool the first day and it was amazing. Showfish accommodated us with reservations weeks in advance. The manager was excellent and worked with me throughout the entire process. The food was excellent, try the angry lobster. The reason for the 4 star review is really due to the rooms. Our safe never worked. We tried to get it fixed 3 times and no one came. We had a lot of valuable jewelry. We did not have enough towels or pillows for the 7 people we had in 2 rooms. We asked several times and finally got them but then everytime our room was cleaned we never got more. We asked asked a wine opener never got it. We also blew a fuse and it took 1.5 hours to get it fixed so couldn't get ready. Overall the rooms need a renovation and the cleaning staff probably needs more help. The front desk staff was very attentive the entire stay and tried to get us what we needed. Overall, I would recommend staying there but I think due to staffing issues our stay probably wasn't the norm. I hope to give Gurney's another try when the entire country is not having staffing issues.

Yesterday my 6 friends had lunch in the restaurant! The food. Service was excellent!! We are already planning for our next luncheon!!!

For a 4 star hotel I have never experienced a hotel that does less to placate the care of it’s guests. “ We are sorry” is their stock answer for all problems. Their poor service ostensibly is due to being understaffed. While most of their employees express true concern, but they are helpless to rectify the pervasive problem. For a resort on an Island whereby you are are one mile away from the town, there is no notions store on site. A newspaper is unheard of. Their alternative to their luxurious breakfast experience is a coffee bar open 9-12. Unfortunately all food is exhausted by 9 AM with no replenishment. If they are unable to provide the luxury service they claim to have. they should not have opened. Their signature restaurant never opened for the season. If you want luxury, look elsewhere.
Clara Q.
Only resort in Newport. From the bell hop to the room service attendant, everyone appears to have the same upbeat attitude. Enough chairs in the pool area which has prompt food/drink waiters and is well kept.
Mary D.
There are some good things about the Guerney’s Newport Resort. The location is great. The facilities are good. The valet staff was some of the best. While we did enjoy our stay in Newport, we would not stay at Guerney’s again. Hotel rooms are in varies stages of condition and could use some remodeling. The resort needs some updating - worn furniture, floors dull and in need of replacing. Some rooms are only accessible by stairs - some up two flights and that was a suite. Staff is poorly trained, frazzled and we heard from almost every server, cleaning staff and desk clerk that they were understaffed. There was always an excuse why rooms weren’t cleaned, food orders never arrived and often when the food was delivered we had to ask for water, coffee, silverware and even napkins. When you are on vacation it gets pretty old to hear how overworked they are. If you don’t mind waiting half an hour or longer for food, food orders that are incorrect or never arrive, having to ask for silverware, water, coffee and basics like napkins, then stay at Guerney’s. After looking at the website, we expected a higher level of service. We understand staffing is an issue everywhere. That is not a problem only Guerney’s has. But when every employee at every level tells you why you aren’t getting good service, it makes the vacation that everyone looks forward to just not as fun.
Nick C.
Restaurant is always booked, and coffee bar is out of food. You can wait 45 minutes for a coffee, though. Website is wrong half of the time about usual logistics like when things open and close. Water is $4. They don’t do room servicing, so my room stayed a mess the whole time. (No, there was not a do not disturb sign on the door.) The hallways are dark and smell like garbage. The beds are comfy and nice and the room view is great. Here’s my main complaint: They ignored every Covid guideline. The staff don’t wear masks and the place is 100% full. Great. Don’t go here, please
Sweta S.
Food was decent, service a little slow but overall great spot!
James C.
The convenience to the wedding venue was the purpose of our choice - the room product was awful - dirty carpet .. bathroom .. no amenities to speak of .a small bottle of body lotion ... a double Queen room w/ 2 towels ... The first floor hallways were dark.. so not worth the price... Newport summer rates .. gotta love it ????good luck

Love gurneys Newport. Best view , plenty of space , great cocktails.

Going to Gurney's is like going home. I have gone to Gurney's with my daughter and another mom and daughters friend before the Pandemic and was so excited to know there was a Gurney's in Newport. I had been at Gurney's Montauk many many years ago when I lived in NY. Now being in CT it is a quick jump to Gurney's Newport. This past time (July / August 2021) I brought my husband and my daughter. We loved it. We used the spa (loved it) used the pool, ate breakfast and dinner there. The food is terrific the service and staff helpful. Savannah at the pool was wonderful and helpful. Then again pretty much all the staff is awesome - Maureen the server very pleasant and lovely. I own a bridal shop in Newtown CT and one of my favorite florists was working putting up flowers for a wedding the day we arrived. If you want a great relaxing place to go that is in Newport RI Gurneys does not disappoint A+++
George P.
To be quite honest was very disappointed. Its old dirty and dated. They clearly have problems hiring and keeping staff. It is over priced over rated and only survives because the pool area is great. The rates twashey charge for what they give you is obscene. When we checked in on our honeymoon the room was the smallest hotel room I have ever been in, the carpet was frayed and torn the furniture was worn and dated and the terrace was nice but on the front of it ran exposed pipes from the restaurant below. I complained and was moved to a room from 1936. It was dirty with mold in the bathroom vent a terrace door that did not fit properly and I could go on and on. I would have to say look elsewhere.
Jennifer I.
Terrible customer service. Staff wasn’t overly friendly (you know the type- you’re doing them the favor?) + took repeated calls and reminders for basic supplies (sheets, pillows for pull out couch which should’ve been there already + roll away bed which was reserved well before the visit). Won’t stay here again. Ever. Oh and needs a makeover. Not worth the money. Stay at the new Marriott.
Nick P.
Best place to watch the sunset in Newport!!!
Melinda A.
Dated, dirty and all around huge disappointment! We have been to Gurneys at Montauk and it was fabulous. This one is awful. We had to move rooms 3 times as they were all so bad and not what we paid for. It all looks like something out of 1970. Including the pool area and grounds in general. However, the food and bar and food service was very good. But we won't be back.

- Pros : nice location, great view - Cons: unprofessional staff (including valet, reception, waiters...etc). Prices are out of proportion to the services provided. >Valet parking: some are nice, smiling, and professional. Others, not so much... just want their shift to end. One refused to assist us with our luggage and demanded payment for “full service” beforehand > receptionist: we approached one of the receptionists to inquire about spa hours (since we checked-in late and they were already closed). She was not aware of the working hours of the spa ! She also informed us that “All phones in the rooms have a button to direct us to the spa” Which was not true. It seemed that our question bothered her despite that it was not busy at all... On the other hand, there was a young gentleman who was very helpful > Restaurant is great and the food is one of the best. We dined in for dinner. Service, was not as great. Order took forever to arrive. And when it arrived half of the orders were missing. We waited for 20 minutes more then called the waitress -who did not bother to serve the food nor check in on us afterwards- blamed someone else for serving our food to the wrong table. We informed the manager about the issue and was kind and apologetic. - Generally speaking, the prices were out of proportion to the service provided. Traveling around the world and staying at different luxurious hotels, I can easily say that there are much more luxurious hotels out there with exceptional services at equivalent prices. We were planning on staying for two more nights but we decided to cancel our plans and avoid further disappointment

Tiffany Walker should leave the hospitality business. Checked in this hotel expecting a harbor view as advertised both on the site and expedia. Walked in the room to a view of the ugly roof and AC unit? You have to stand in the corner against the wall to see the harbor. My Fiancée went down to request a different room and Tiffany was extremely rude and unaccommodating. He is now talking to the manager and we are leaving the hotel. Avoid room 407 and Tiffany Walker unless you like roof views and a ruined vacation.

I have to write about my experience in booking a stay at Gurney's Newport Resort & Marina! We had to rebook a couple of times. As it turns out, we still are not able to commit to a date. So, why am I writing a review. It's about attitude. Can do attitudes. Positive attitudes. David Smiley the GM, personally called me to let me know that he would take care of me - "whatever works best for me"! It might not seem like a big thing, but it was. The fact that we don't have to worry about that, was very comforting. We will be staying at Gurney's Newport Resort & Marina soon, because if that's how we get treated before our stay...I can only imagine how they care for their guests during the stay. Thank you David Smiley!

Great beer. Out of downtown just enough.

Beautiful spot for sunset and to grab a drink. Bar staff are great and cocktails are delicious

Cute little lighthouse definitely needs some maintenance

Too bad the food, host staff and cleanliness wasn't on par with the view.

Way overpriced at $1k per night. They slapped the gurney's name on a stale old hotel and charge 3x the price. very noticeable. will eventually catch up to them.
Rob D.
Amazing place!

Rooms need major renovation. Location is awesome. View of Bay is fantastic. Rate we payed for a suite was grossly overpriced for what we got. Mold on shower walls. Carpet was smelly and wall paper was pealing off. More like a cheap motel.
Oleksandr R.
Beautiful spot for a sunset. Accommodating staff, tasty food and desserts, good wine list. Definitely try their desserts. Prices are rather high though.

We were very excited to be in a resort on the island and booked an expensive room just for the sea view, when we arrived at 17:30 the room was still not ready and the wait we were told was unknown but at least an hour more so they offered is to check out bags (Check in time is 14:00). It took my wife and I some persistence but we finally got our room at around 18:00. We go up to our room excited to open the door to find out room to be just above a roof and facing the parking lot (if you like on the bed you can see a corner of the bay). We went back down asking for the room we paid for but apparently there were no available rooms, and or room was designated as a room with waterfront view, but they did offer to waive the resort fee and the difference to a non view room back. That was very disappointing as we choose this hotel over others for the waterfront view. We went to dinner at the hotel restaurant which requires early reservation, the atmosphere is great and the service is good but the food is not. I ordered a steak which arrived cold, and had to be sent back. The second try for the steak was crusty almost charred on the outside oozing with visible butter and overcooked, the roasted cauliflower was good, my wife's salad was good, but the asparagus was inconsistent and the dessert was not close to the description. It was not worth the cost! The next morning we went down for breakfast, the place was quite empty but we were still told that there are a lot of reservations and there is an half an hour wait and that they would call us. We say there waiting for half an hour watching the empty place. We got tired and for a coffee and a sandwich in the small hotel cafe and after an hour went to tell the host that she still did not call. The host apologized and offered to sit us, it was too late for us, we did not want to get breakfast at the hotel restaurant. When we complained to the hotel reception they offered to help sit us. This hotel did not make us feel welcomed in any stage of our staying and the restaurant was overpriced and not that good. We will never come back to this hotel and recommend that you choose a different hotel if you plan on coming to Newport Rhode island. I hope this was all due to being short staffed due to covid employment situation, but even if so, it should be communicated and dealt with.
Kimberly G.
I was disappointed in my experience here, especially when paying $1,100 a night. The restaurants at the hotel were fully booked, so they recommended we try eating at the pool bar (pineapple club). Even that was full with no tables available for the whole evening. There are picnic tables on the grounds of the hotel, but to be allowed to sit there, they told us we must spend $50 per person on items from the pool bar. I can’t drink alcohol, and even if I bought the most expensive item (~$34 lobster roll) it still would not have been enough to allow me to sit outdoors. Ridiculous that we can’t sit outside at our hotel when paying over $1,000 a day. All of the picnic tables were empty. I wanted to order room service for breakfast, but the only items on the room service menu were beverages (coffee, tea, juice, bar drinks). The room service website showed a picture of pancakes, but that was misleading. I tried ordering at 6:30am - maybe that was too early in the morning. The room service site did not specify special hours for food items. Ended up getting our breakfasts at Starbucks in town. Our bathroom only had one bath towel in it. I found a hand towel and another bath towel in the closet on the other side of the room. Even after housekeeping came, they still only put one fresh bath towel in the bathroom. There was a small gift shop area in the lobby, but it was sold out of everything except maybe 3 individual sweatshirts. Not 3 different kinds of sweatshirts, but literally only 3 items were left. Some rooms require going up a few steps in order to reach them - they are on a small raised platform at the end of the hall. These stairs were right past the elevator, which seemed really odd to me. The whole experience here was odd.

Lunch was delightful and service was superb!!

Bar/food service Why have 60 people at your bar if you don’t allow take out service so I can eat in peace without some boujie POS breathing over my shoulder. If I have to sit down to get an order than open up some tables. Typical Gurneys.
Leah G.
We stayed at Gurneys Newport, RI for five days in June 2020 and could not have had a more delightful experience. The hotel staff was extremely accommodating, sending help immediately to fix a minor door issue and answering our endless questions about biking routes in town. The Staff were patient and pleasant always smiling and allowing us to feel as if they were there only for us. The Staff gets a rating for 5 Stars!!! The room was comfortable (4 Star quality) with a spectacular view. All rooms have huge windows with water views. The grounds are unsurpassable with numerous chairs around the water for one to sit and relax. I would definitely go back without hesitation and highly recommend this resort!
Joanne S.
Beautiful venue, excellent food. Outstanding service.
Denise M.
Wait staff was really sweet and got our food to us right before the kitchen closed for the afternoon. The hot lobster roll is better than the cold roll in my opinion but both were good. I eventually just ate the meat and left the bread. Sorry, the roll was not great. The chowder was good with the Tabasco sauce. The view was also good. Get an old fashioned, you will thank me later.
Peace Of Mind Fire & S.
This hotel is in a great location and the views are great if you get a king with a balcony. I give it 4 stars and here is why. We didn't know the fire pits had to be reserved nor were we told. They are supposed to be exclusive to people staying at the hotel but they don't check or ask anyone for verification so anyone can get a table with a firepit. You can't even reserve in person you have to use some app as we were told by a hostess. We did manage to get a regular table outside and our server was incredible and the food was outstanding. The other reason I dropped a star was the room. The ceiling bath vent was disgusting and needs to be cleaned and they parched the ceiling and only painted to the shower area and just stopped. Very odd. Would we stay there again? I would say no.

I STAYED AT THE NEWPORT GURNEYS FOR THREE DAYS AT THE END OF MAY 2021 . I HAPPENED TO BE THERE ON A WEEKEND THAT GURNEY'S WAS HOSTING 2 VERY LARGE WEDDINGS . I MUST SAY DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS THERE WERE A FEW HICCUPS .WHEN I BROUGHT THEM UP TO MANAGEMENT THEY WERE ON IT !! I RATE MY STAY A 10 DUE TO THE HOSPITALITY AND EXPERIENCE OF JONATHAN , LEILANI KOLH AND THE MANAGER OF THE RESTAURANT. GUYS BECAUSE OF YOU I WILL BE BACK. THANK YOU, LFA
Karen K.
The real estate and views are fabulous and the staff outstanding. However, the resort itself hasn’t been updated in decades. A/C wasn’t working and engineer came and removed the most filthy filter. Should have been spotless especially during Covid.
Corrine M.
I had one of the best lunches here, everything was fresh and portion was perfect, I recommend the wedge salad with chicken!!! Not to mention the view is nice due to being on the water.
Vincent C.
Everything is a problem, from keeping their word and following through, to accidentally parking in the wrong spot and someone threatening to have the vehicle towed! I mean are you kidding me?! Am I on a getaway or in a prison!! This is our second time staying here, and let me tell you I was reluctant as F to do it, and boy am I regretting it! My first experience was terrible, and I made it known when I booked my room, the representative clearly seemed to care and attempted to make Things right this time around, that is until we arrived at gurneys… now I am here for my wedding anniversary, and they assigned us a room with “ double beds” they look like slightly bigger twin beds.. we immediately saw it and was like what the f, this isn’t what the representative said we would have … I went to the front desk and spoke to them amen they were initially extremely difficult, as I was getting extremely frustrated dealing with them, “ sir I’m sorry I don’t have any other rooms” “ sir we are fully booked” I was like do you expect me to sleep in separate beds from my wife on our wedding anniversary? The apologies kept coming ( eye roll) I asked for a mgr and was told I was dealing with an assistant mgr. I eventually got so frustrated to the point that I asked for a refund and was gonna go to another hotel but then from the heavens above , the room gods bestowed a magical room on the assistant managers screen… “poof” she said oh I can move you to a king room with a sofa … … I mean why are these people so difficult here ??? Even making reservations for a restaurant at a hotel that I am staying at!!! Geezus! It’s not like the hotel is glamorous or anything, it’s in dire need of somebody to renovate the hell out of it.. only thing right now it has going for it, is the location … clearly my choice to give this place A second chance was a huge mistake… and I will not succumb to that again.
Brady P.
What a beautiful resort..Staff is friendly the courtesy shuttles are a diamond A plus... Food in restaurant is great as well Thank you Gurneys for a great week of fun
Deirdre M.
This hotel is not 4 star. It’s a 2-3 star at most. Rooms are old and have not been updated in many years. Service in the restaurant was terrible both nights. Definitely not worth the price. Pool and firepit areas are nice, but messy and left unclean. This could be a great hotel with better management. Definitely does not live up to the Gurneys reputation.
Amanda B.
First, we arrived on Sunday and the weather was fabulous, Gurneys outdoor pool and outdoor dining was lively, clean, and a lot of fun. However, it rained the two following days and it proved this place is definitely not worth the price if weather is subpar. Let me explain why. Their coffee shop in the lobby was closed for 3 days straight. Their restaurant showfish had no availability for breakfast since outdoor dining was closed due to the weather (their lobby restaurant was also closed). Their gym can hardly accommodate 5 people. Overall if it rains there is NOTHING Gurneys has to offer. Make sure you check the weather before booking because at $500 + a night your better off at another spot.
Ted W.
We went to have lunch at Showfish but there was no signs anywhere indicating it was at Gurney's Hotel. After driving around parking lot at least 6 times, a helpful hotel valet confirmed its presence in hotel. Finally had a great lunch on the outdoor deck. But Gurney's needs to put up signage for this hidden gem.
Tony K.
It is expensive and dated but the setting is priceless.
Katherine I.
Amazing location, and the staff are the shining star of this hotel. Helpful, nice and accommodating. However the bathrooms are dingy, dirty and old. They need to do a major remodel, and the rooms do not match the price.
Barbara D.
We just returned from a 30th anniversary trip to Newport, and stayed at Gurneys Inn. We were so happy with the experience! We had a fabulous room, with a view of the harbor and the bridge. Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries were waiting in our room for our celebration! The staff was so accommodating and nice! The facility is top notch! Beautiful grounds with pool, fire pits, and deck chairs overlooking the water. We will definitely return!!!
Chris B.
Great food, drinks, and views!
Leslie S.
Amazing stay with great staff!!! Mya at the front desk is absolutely lovely and made our anniversary stay 10x more special with her kindness and thoughtful touches. The property is beautiful and in a perfect location just a couple minutes from downtown Newport.
Chris M.
Amazing staff and service. A special thanks to Kohl who saved our trip/wedding anniversary. We showed up just to realize that I never confirmed the booking. Kohl got us in an upgraded room at a great price. The restaurant was amazing as well.
Sobin K.
Had a great time, definitely will be back.

Beautiful Views! Perfect spot to watch the sunset!

Nice rooms with a beautiful picture window with views of rhe bridge, pool and the resort grounds - stunning!!. The sundeck and firepits are a great place to grab a meal or even just sip on a cocktail or coffee. Great views, friendly and beautiful managed grounds. I would suggest providing your own self care (shampoo body wash lotion)

Delicious food. Filet mignon was cooked perfectly

It pains us to say that this resort isn't at our expectations for the Gurney's name. We've been to both Long Island resorts of theirs, and this one is in some major help to live up to the Gurney's name. The staff interactions were all great, but the building needs some work/updating, mainly outside and on the grounds. Hotel competition is stiff in Newport with some brand new ones recently built, but with the view that this resort has, it could be a much better experience if the building and grounds were maintained.

Would recommend this place to anybody. It was relaxing, amazing views, very friendly staff.

We went for Mother’s Day brunch. Service and food were exceptional! Srdan was our server and he was outstanding. Andrew, the host, was also very kind. It is an extremely well run establishment. I will definitely return.

We just had our wedding ceremony at Gurney’s and the staff was very accommodating and welcoming! I worked mainly with Kris Shea and she was absolutely fantastic in every way. She made sure we were well taken care of despite the hotel being short on staff during these hard times. We had a wonderful wedding ceremony and loved every minute of our stay at Gurney’s. Our family and friends were all treated well and we were even able to have our “after parties” each night as they stayed open late for us on our wedding night. We would absolutely recommend them if you are planning on hosting your wedding here. Thank you so much! The only con is that it was a bit hard to get a hold of the right person to make reservations, but they definitely pulled through in the end! Looking forward to future stays here as a family.

Great fun igloo atmosphere, service was impeccable. The food was amazing and smoke portions! Will return again!!

The staff was outstanding. However 5he facilities need significant renovation as they are tired and dated. Dining facilities uninspired. Same with Spa.

Beautiful property with amazing views. Kohl at the front desk and Scott from the bar were both professional and friendly! Very attentive and gave awesome recommendations. Would definitely come back for another stay

Not worth it at all I am paying almost 600$ for one night after taking and all and it is not worth it at all . I booked on booking.com and hotel used it as an excuse to give me a totally different room that what ask on booking.com.

Overall grear experience. Only disappointment was with room service. I was feeling sick and in pain due to my gastritis and needed something plain to eat. Called room service at 11am to order some toast and I tried 3 times and had no answer. They eventually called back around 1145Am and then told me I couldn't order toast because they transitioned to lunch at 1130. But had they answered when I originally called I could have gotten what I needed. It was literally just a side order of toast since I just needed to get something into my system. They wouldn't even offer anything similar either which was disappointing. I had to go off the resort in pain to get something to eat unfortunately. Other than that the experience was good and the room was nice and front desk associates were really nice

It's a beautiful resort very well kept and clean. The restaurant is very good with excellent food. Indoor and outdoor pool and a gym and spa. Perfect summer get away... Away from home but yet close to home.
Phill D.
ITS FINE. Not great, not terrible - but just very average. The only highlight was the food - nice quality and simply prepared. Stayed here for 2 nights and would recommend that as the maximum stay for anyone. As for the rest - the room, the staff, the hotel - just have low expectations and you’ll be fine!
Rishi B.
Nice resort located on Goat Island, Newport Rhode Island. We came in early April and only one restaurant was open, but the service was good. The casual restaurant show fish is good. Yiu need reservations to use the pool or gym as they want to ensure safety in covid times. The espresso in all of Newport is too bitter, and not acidic enough, and the Gurney’s has the same problem. This was also true of the coffee grinder on bowen’s wharf.
Cory B.
It was a comfortable hotel and a great location but the hot tub did not function and the window view to see ocean was not clean. If you are doing a weekend stay, small things like that should be maintained or at least compensated. The restaurant was clean and very good. I'm willing to change review if hotel reaches out.
Mike S.
Great place to feed the seagulls nice quiet and not many people!
Arthur C. D.
This is a great place to stay, very nice rooms, food is top shelf and staff is friendly and helpful.
Fallon L.
The view of the Newport Bridge at sunset is lovely. Unfortunately the service and food do not meet expectations. The menu has limited seafood options for a Newport restaurant on the water. The food is also on the pricier side and nothing you can't get at another restaurant with a waterview for a more reasonable price.
Hanna U.
It was horrible, my husband and I left our car top open and we had things stolen from our car. We did not expect that at all. Later the day some guy was forcing himself into our room saying he worked with the hotel. It’s a waste of money. We did not feel safe here at all. better else where.
David R.
Great location, friendly staff, beautiful grounds, nice rooms (though the carpet and pull out couch should have been vacuumed better) and the food at the restaurant was really good. I definitely recommend this resort.
Allan R.
Great service and stay. Beautiful area and scenery.
Denny R.
The best place I ever been, and the staff are amazing I give you 100 stars ????

Third visit to this property located on Goat Island. Room views are awesome. Pre-COVID they had a shuttle running downtown every 1/2 hour and valet service. They are doing what needs to be done, masks in public, social distancing everywhere...restaurants, patio, gym & pool. They have igloos and firepits on a large multi layer patio that is packed this sunny afternoon of 37 degrees! Ha...we love our cocktails. Might want to make reservations pre stay. Enjoy.

Kris was so very helpful getting everything organized during these weird Covid times! She was very professional and made everything really easy. She made us feel like royalty the entire weekend of our wedding. Kohl at the front desk is the most professinal and polite front desk attendant I have ever met and was super helpful, and remembered who we were and details about us all weekend, providing that personalized touch. Sloan and Matt were also extremely professional and amazing bell boys, who also provided that personalized service and made us feel extremely special on our wedding weekend. Aly in the seawater spa did an amazing job on my wedding nails and picked the perfect color for me. Our server in the restaurant for dinner was also fantastic, handled our party of 12 with grace, and no one was ever without a refilled drink. All around the experience was amazing and we will likely stay for anniversaries to come!!
Victoria L.
The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Not only did our bed feel like a blow up mattress, not once did we receive turn down service even though it was stated we would. Called the front desk for a few extra pillows one of the nights and they refused. The check out process was extremely frustrating and they are withholding funds from my account even though the room was paid in full before arrival. They now claim it will take them Ana edition also 5-10 business days to release said funds. Would definitely not recommend for future stays or future guests.
V L.
Disappointing. We ate in one of the igloos to celebrate a birthday. We arrived well ahead of our reservation. All the other igloo parties arrived after us and were seated before us. We didn’t get seated until 20 mins after the reservation time. Our igloo was cold and the heater was not working; the heating coil was only heating in its bottom half - the top half was broken. We ordered appetizers and our entrees within 15 mins of being seated. Our appetizers arrived in a timely manner but then our main courses didn’t arrive for another 1 hour. And 20 mins after receiving our entrees, our server informed us that it was last call and that everything was closing shortly. We ended up with 23 mins to eat our dinner. On top of this, we had mentioned the birthday in the reservation but nothing was done for the special occasion.
John W.
Great place with amazing covid resistant amenities. Outdoor firepits, igloos for intimate dining, managed access to an indoor pool and exercise machines. A short walk(for Europeans) to downtown Newport but a complete escape from the noise when you are back, sitting on your private balcony enjoying room service. Would go back again ????
Jordan N.
Amazing weekend getaway . Clean, Covid Appropriate, Friendly and Accommodating Staff. Mr. Smiley is a top-notch host.

Rent a igloo...have a blast fantastic food fantastic service .... Very romantic ....

Booked one of the pop up igloos on their firepit deck. The igloos are clean and warm. The food is delicious, which of course was the highlight of the experience for us. Waitor was very friendly and helpful. I recommended this to my airbnb host to suggest to future guests.

Descent king room with a balcony... was told we'd have a room on the 6th floor. That didn't happen.. ended up on the 3rd ... ordered room service for breakfast and a mid afternoon snack prior to dinner. My boyfriend's omelette and my crabcake Benedict was phenomenal.. Dinner at Showfish was also incredibly delicious... 30 day aged ribery and 10oz filet were cooked to perfection... The Bed was extremely soft... however the pillows were awful. The heat kept switching to a balmy 74 ...so the room kept heating up... The Staff was awesome... definitely would go back again...
Andrew D.
Stayed here for a few days in December. I would recommend staying here, but the exterior of the property does need a little updating. The inside of the hotel as well as the rooms are very modern and well kept. Staff was friendly and breakfast at the restaurant was delicious. Our one negative experience was during check in - we were told our room was not ready and would receive a call back once a room had become available. Filled in all paperwork, forms, etc and left the hotel for the day. We did not receive any call and finally decided to contact them, and were told a room had been ready. Went back to the front desk and was asked to fill out all the forms and paperwork again. Would definitely stay here again though as it is a very nice property!
Rebecca S.
I was very excited to go here because I heard such great things. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. The service was honestly horrendous and laughable especially for such a touted destination. It took about 15-20 minutes just for someone to take our drink order. The drinks were ok. They again took about 20 minutes to take our food order after we were already done with our drinks. I got New England clam chowder which wasn't good at all. It barely had any clam and was all cream and potato. I've had better 'New England' clam chowder outside of New England. For my entree I had rigatoni and it was undercooked. I know al dente and it was not that; just straight undercooked. I asked for the check and after 20 minutes without a check I had to walk up to the host stand and ask for it there which is ridiculous. The staff was really nice but my time was absolutely wasted here.
Eden G.
Stayed two nights. Got back day 2 and there was no power in our room. Was not made aware of this until we got up to the room, even though the hotel knew this was going on. Others were comped one night stay for the inconvenience. I was offered nothing for the inconvenience of packing up in the dark and switching rooms across the resort. Terrible customer service. Would not come back or recommend to anyone I know.
Brian P.
We were ready to complete an experience for Igloo but at the end of the process we were told the reservation was no longer available after confirming with everyone in our party. Very bad customer service and systems to ensure the integrity of a reservation.

Good food, mediocre service

Food was great. Service fabulous. Victoria was so accommodating. I was a little nervous after reading reviews. Glad we went and found out for ourselves. Couldn't have had a better afternoon!

A delightful experience from start to finish. Friendly, helpful greeting. Extraordinarily scenic location. Delicious food. Personalized service. Well-planned outdoor seating. I don't know what else to say except I will be returning!

Convenient location on Goat Island. Off season rates can't be beat.

Great location and comfortable rooms

Had an amazing time for my 1 year wedding anniversary at Gurney's. The staff was great the rooms are a bit dated but you aren't going there to stay in the rooms. I can't wait to go back next year during the summer months. Also this is the only resort that has an outdoor pool in Newport.
Will N.
We sat outside by the fire pits to enjoy an evening with cocktails and appetizers. Excellent evening, we will certainly return.
Michael S.
Recommend staying here, although be aware that the Gurney's needs upkeep. The best part staying Gurney's is the location and the grounds. Its exclusive and feels worth the money as you walk through the hotel. The service at the pool, bars, and restaurants is top notch and one have a memorable day without leaving the property. On the other hand, the room are modern but need upkeep. The wallpaper is outdated and falling off the walls. The furniture on the patio is cheap and needs to be updated. This is not a cheap place but considering the pros and cons, I would stay at Gurney's again.

Great sailing around Newport RI on the 12 meter sail boat!
David S.
Great place to stay or visit. Has very good places to hang out. They have areas around the fire pit that you could hang out and get some drinks. There’s restaurants all around that have a good use of the water and are on a scenic little island called goat Island in Newport. Definitely nice to stop by and get a drink and take a look at the resort. Also the people have teslas they have 3 T chargers on the front which is a great future especially if you have a Tesla as there’s not a lot of places to supercharge around newport
Kelly S.
The firepit lounge was great. Order your beverages quickly because they are a bit slow. This wouldn't have been a big deal except they limit the reservation time to 1.5 hours and have no qualms of kicking you out even if you just received a beverage you've been waiting 40 minutes for. Otherwise the views were incredible. It was a quick 10 minute walk from Thames St. And the food was delicious! I would highly recommend!

Very misleading based on the pictures on the website. The rooms are VERY outdated and pretty much falling apart. Upon check in they put us it a room that was already occupied. Yes, we used the key we were given we walked into the room to find a couple who was just as confused as we were. After we were given another room it continued to get worse. We found a dirty sock next to the outlet behind the desk. And the walls were DIRTY. The bathroom wall was Covered in tooth paste. It also looked like someone exploded a Coca Cola.. there was a brown dried substance dripping from a few of the walls. I honestly hope the room was even cleaned. They then moved us to a bi level suite which again was super outdated and boarder line falling apart. There were also old drinks still out on the balcony from the people before us And the bath tub was clogged. I took a shower and the water was above my ankles by the time i was done. I will say the staff was very nice and quick to respond. Overall definitely not the experience we were hoping for and would not recommend staying here. I would however recommend going to for drinks go to sit at the outside area. The drinks and views are great. We should left but didn’t want to take away time from our other plans

Tons of nice places to hit at rhode island. This is one of them

The most beautiful scenery, it seemed as if you're in Ocho Rios Jamaica. The staff are wonderful out of this world.

NOT WORTH THE MONEY! STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE! We paid a lot of money for this room. In our eyes, this was the "best" room available when booking and this was a very special occassion, our honeymoon as we had to postpone our original location due to COVID. It was nice to have a bottle of prosecco and a welcome note, however, the room was incredibly underwhelming and it needed severe updates. The room was in need of decorating and we had to move a little night stand in front of the TV and couch in order to set our drinks on something. We also tried to sit outside at night on the patio and the light outside didn't work. We had to call the front desk and they sent two engineers, who haven't seen the light before. They had to "steal" a light fixture from another room. In addition, I made sure to call for housekeeping prior to us going out to dinner. I was assured x2 that they would come. They did not. They took the "daily room charge" off. The next day, I called in the morning and again, NO HOUSEKEEPING! I had to call a FOURTH time for them to come. Our room felt like it was in the slums.. we had to walk so far and it felt like such an old part of the hotel. The bathroom was small and again, outdated. A very beautiful though, which saved us from wanting to leave. And not to sound too particular, but please evaluate the dresser door knobs. My husband hurt his thumb when attempting to open and I also cracked my nail. We had to use the ironing board every night and it was so so dirty and old. We dined at the lounge and firepit one afternoon. The hostess was not welcoming and instead promptly gave us our time limit. We sat for about 10 minutes until our very sweet server came, appearing very exhausted. She was very attentive (as best she could be) and the food was actually very tasty. I watched our server while waiting for drinks, etc and she was essentially running the whole show while the guys were just sitting around. I felt so bad. We would return to Newport but will never stay at Gurney's again nor would we recommend this to anyone.
Jenny A.
Great views. Some rooms feel like a cruise view of the water and boats but on solid ground. Hammocks and lighthouse are fun. Easy to walk to town and restaurants. Great service at both the hotel and the restaurants (3 on property). Highly recommend!
Gary N.
With all due respect. You need to get some more seasoned help. You can not rely on the view. I had a party of 16 and was given one fire pit table to share. Meanwhile there were two open tables with no one sitting there except for one person from the previous party who insisted on sipping her coffee and refused to move for our party. Not good..

My fiancé booked this resort for a surprise wedding proposal. He put in so much time and energy to choose the right location/room to set the ambiance for the perfect proposal. He purposely booked a king room with a balcony as the photos on their website showed a beautiful balcony which is where he planned to propose. He called the hotel in advance and coordinated a 3 dozen floral delivery with chocolates and a bottle of Moët which required a form to be completed specifying the date/time of delivery to the room. He sent the form and asked for a confirmation of the arrangements which he never received and when he called to confirm they received the form with the desired arrangements, the woman seemed bothered and nonchalantly confirmed after a long wait, she received the form. My fiancé stressed the importance of the date and time and had coordinated the delivery of the flowers with an outside florist. We checked in to the hotel and was directed to the elevator to our room. As we walked down the hall to go to our room I can see the nervousness on his face. When we opened the door to the room his heart sank. The room was nothing like the pictures. The balcony was old, with broken gravel and extremely dirty. There was this wasted space in front of the balcony that was just odd. The room was a regular room, nothing spectacular for an expensive ($$$) price tag. We would’ve been better off staying at the Marriott. We left for a boat ride and got back early afternoon where we were going to relax b4 taking a hike. When we got back there were flowers and chocolates with a bottle of Moët in the room. They completely missed the mark and didn’t pay attention to the form they requested him to complete that specified the delivery to be between 8-9pm so when we got back from dinner, I would see the flowers, chocolates and Moët where he would then propose....He was so disappointed and crushed. Clearly, the resort did not care and from the booking to completing our stay it was an awful experience. I will never go back to this resort and would not recommend to anyone. Go to the Marriott, for a better view, clean room and attention to detail we don’t doubt they would’ve provided for such a special occasion. Thanks Gurney for messing up my fiancée’s proposal and turning what should’ve been a magical moment into a disaster. Shame on you - a disgrace to the hospitality industry.
Gregory S.
Nice spot on the water, Scarpetta Restaurant is a winner as well as the outdoor dinning for a sunset meal.
Joe R.
We reserved a table and when arriving, were told we could only stay for an hour. Drinks were expensive, food was pretty decent. But ridiculous how you’re put on a deadline.

Hot rock manages are the best!!
David B.
This is a gorgeous property. Service is usually attentive and overall very friendly. The pool is perfectly heated, and even with the pandemic, they do well balancing access and safety. The food is excellent. The lobster roll here is the best I ate in the Newport area and one of the best anywhere. The chicken fingers were a surprising hit too and I had way too many. Bonus points to their bar staff and whoever came up with the Peach Pit recipe. The biggest downside is the walls where we were are really thin. Couple that with a hotel known for hosting weddings and bachelorette parties, and you get some very loud (and often drunk) groups who aren’t thinking of others trying to rest. Walls within the room offer little privacy while in the bathroom, so this seems like an overall flaw of the hotel. The rest of the property is so inviting though that I can’t say don’t book it — I just can’t say it’s perfect either.
Morena C.
Very nice place i love it ????
Adrijana M.
The place is very dirty, the windows are never cleaned. The furniture in the lobby is filthy and worn. The facility has potential but is very run down. They allow non hotel guests in so you can never get a place at the restaurant and pool area. I’m very disappointed.
Shirley R.
MISLEADING Nice location, friendly service and ample space. I would love to give this place a 5 star review but unfortunately it wasn’t what I booked online. On their website they show a nice balcony with views of the sea and hopes to see a sunset. Instead, I was met by views of boats partially blocked by my air conditioner. The room view was not the same of what you see online. I was given a credit for the room but I think that they should advertise better in order not to mislead their customers.
Connor B.
The property is beautiful and rooms are nice. The pool is well managed with COVID going on but the back patio lounge could use some help. Apparently reservations are needed for your own hotel when about half the tables are open. Since they couldn’t accommodate a 2 top for 2 nights in a row, we had to have a drink outback. All of the tables were still empty when we finished to go back to our room, same thing happened with the restaurant. Still recomendable.
Jim J.
We did not stay at the resort due to the room prices being so high. We went here for dinner and visited the spa the next day. The sights are incredible. Gorgeous sweeping views of the waterfront and very romantic at sunset. Food was decent but not great for how pricey it is. We had the worst food service of anywhere we visited in Newport though. It was a slow Monday night. Our server visited once to take our food and drink order and we didn't see him again for an hour. The burgers we ordered took about 30 min to arrive (brought out by someone else) and somehow the 2 $15 Manhattans we ordered arrived after the food. And what's worse is they were made so strong that they were almost undrinkable. Then after our meal it took another 20 minutes for the waiter to bring the check after we asked for it. Don't bother eating here. It's clear food and drinks are just phoned in as an expensive add on while the resort banks on business for the location and views. The massage at the spa was great though! Very professional and courteous staff.
Gennaro T.
Scenery was beautiful, rooms were spotless, food was very good, staff was very friendly and helpfull.
Francesca Pucci S.
My husband and I had lunch here recently in the lounge. Beautiful ambience, delicious food, and impeccable service. We will definitely be back!
Gary G.
A little overpriced and somewhat isolated from downtown Newport. The staff was very attentive and the resort is well kept. It was filled to capacity and is family and dog friendly.
Julie P.
The pool/patio was great with cute little cabanas. The resort is situated in a perfect spot on the water. The layout was comfortable & relaxing. The rooms were average.
John L.
If I could I would give this place 0 stars. First and last time at Gurney’s Newport. Worst “resort” ever. 2 hr wait for our check-in, hallway smells like trash. Bathroom is all wet. The pool is a zoo. 41 north best Newport hotel or Vanderbilt
Luke A.
Clean, great service, wonderful pool & on-site dining.
Rory M.
Avoid Avoid Avoid!! Value for money is not there at this hotel. This is a $200/night hotel at best. The rooms have nice views but the hotel will try put you in bad rooms that you have to request better rooms. Also, service is sub-par for the price you are paying. Hotel itself is dated and aged, rooms are dirty, have marks on the walls and furniture and bathrooms are old. If you try organize something special the staff will fail you. For example I ordered room service for breakfast as a surprise - i called time find out where it was and the staff said “i think someone put paper in the trash” - still had to pay $70 bucks for it. It’s a shame lots of potential given the location. Much nicer places to stay for this type of cost - do your research!
Wes M.
We booked a premium king water view room months in advance. When we showed up, they had already given our room away and tried to put us in a much inferior room away from the main tower and tried to convince us that it was an upgrade. When we complained they tried to put us in an even worse room. Eventually we ended up asking for a full refund and going to the newly built Brenton hotel down the road and found the service, amenities and the room much better.
Yolanda B.
I can only speak to my experience so far, which within 3.5 hours makes me regret taking this trip. Period. Not only did the management attempt to put us in a room that was far below what we paid for (a water view king balcony room and instead ended up on a ground floor patio without any elevator access), but they said they were full (which was similarly a con, as we confirmed by checking availability online). After the third check in with the front desk, we were finally given a room that we paid for (although it partially faces the parking lot and did not come with any bath facilities, as is described in the room description we purchased). I write to also note the horrible service by the hostess named Maggie who told me they were not servicing customers outside for dining and then proceeded to seat two separate families outside. After going back and forth with her several times, we agreed to place a to go order (aka I would pick up the food and sit outside, rather than her merely deliver the food). Upon seating those two other families, she delivered our to go meal outside as though that were sufficient for her rude service. I’ve only been here 4 hours but you can bet I will never return. such a mediocre experience for such an expensive, overrated establishment. PS—there was a hair in our drinks.

Covid has destroyed Newport. Very few businesses will survive. The charm is gone. Wait to go here when this virus mess is over over. New staff is everywhere and the service is terrible everywhere. You can't eat. You need a reservation for everything and everything is booked. Don't waste your money right now. Beaches are closed. It is awful now. Maybe next year???
Norman M.
Nice place to VISIT not to stay. Rooms are okay. As far as dining goes you cannot eat in the hotel. Every restaurant is always “booked” with no room for hotel guests to eat in their hotel. I stayed two nights and had to eat in my room each night because the hotel restaurants were “overbooked.” Why not tell tour guests to reserve early once they book a room? Why are there no tables reserved for hotel guests? Ridiculous and disappointing.
Sunny K.
Resort itself was on a scenic Island. The building was obviously older. Service left something to be desired, was more befitting of a standard chain hotel rather than a luxury resort.
Karin L.
On the positive side - great location, very dog friendly and loved being able to social distance on the spacious grounds facing the Marina... Loved Scarpetta! On the negative side, never was able to get a seat at the pool. Lunch and breakfast options VERY limited. Rooms very outdated and not what you would expect at a 4 or 5 star property. We stayed in the Liberty Suite which they describe as one of their 2 premier suites and it had a leak in the roof (water poured into one closet when it rained), the bedroom doors didn't close fully and the bathroom and kitchen were outdated and very cheaply constructed (think Doubletree vs $1000+++ per night suite) The staff and hotel manager were very nice, but it was very difficult to reach the front desk by phone. Also, no concierge.
Clarissa C.
Came here for drinks on a Friday night. Definitely make a reservation because we saw several parties turned away at the door. A little pricey, but nice ambiance. Try to get a table with a firepit - they looked so cool!
Megan G.
Overall the location is great and amenities are great. Housekeeping and valet staff were wonderful. With the pool, however, they have an extremely terrible system. People are allowed to save their (unreserved and unpaid for) spot at the pool for hours until they come back, yet the people who are also paying guests are left to fend for themselves without a seat, then on top of that the manager asked us to leave before anyone else because of Covid capacity simply because we didn’t have a seat. This ruined our experience and we won’t be staying at Gurney’s when we come back. The main reason we go on vacation is to relax by the pool, and somehow that turned into being badgered. The rooms feel outdated and too minimal for what we expected with this resort. Restaurant was wonderful and they went out of their way to accommodate us on our honeymoon!
Maria S.
Hotel is quite outdated for the price. Pool was filthy on the first 2 days of our stay, and we were told it was because the levels were off. Looked like a filter problem - and although it got a little better by day 5, it still had black stuff floating around. COVID regulations in place, totally understandable, but that means many services aren’t being offered. Hotel rate should be lowered if you aren’t getting the services you’re actually paying for.
Ellen C.
4.2 rating is bs. The service is terrible and not once, twice but all 3 times I was there. The only thing good is the view. The staff is clearly not trained and does not understand customer service. Whoever is the Chief Operating Manager should be fired.

Visited Gurney’s this past weekend after being confined in our New York apartment since March. 10/10 regret and do not recommend. Let’s go through everything wrong with this “luxury” hotel, shall we? COVID 1. During our three day stay, not once did we see any of the public areas and shared surfaces get wiped down or disinfected. This includes the lobby where people sit, eat, and talk, the elevators, the lounge area. This is quite alarming given what’s going on. 2. Other patrons thought it was ok to get into a really small elevator with guests they were not with. Sometimes, without wearing a mask. The hotel should implement one party per elevator policies. 3. THE POOL WAS PACKED. Think the most packed it could possible be and then add some. The website stated there would be limited capacity at the pool, and this did not seem to translate to real life. Hotel in general 1. After getting to the room, I had forgotten we were at the famed Gurney’s Resort and thought I had somehow ended up in a Ramada attached to the airport. 2. Gross honestly. See images attached. Bathroom did not seem clean. Potential mold on the dresser? 3. To touch on the pool again, upon check-in we had asked about the pool and if we needed to make a reservation due to the website stating there was limited capacity. The front desk person told us it was first come first serve and recommended us try and find a spot between the hours of 12 & 2 and 5 & 8 pm. Huh? One morning, we saw a line of probably 50 people at 8am waiting to get into the pool. Clearly that was a regular occurrence so very unsure why he didn’t tell us that. Regardless, the safety precautions for COVID were not implemented and the pool did not seem safe to use. 4. The grounds of the hotel almost seemed abandoned? They were very unkept, almost like we were at an abandoned fair ground. Food/ service 1. We ate at the lounge for lunch one day. Food was good. 2. Prepare for incredibly slow and inattentive service. 3. That said, if you dine here, please still tip waitstaff and tip them well. In conclusion, save your money, time, and dignity and stay home.

This place is definitely not worth the amount of money you pay. We waited almost an hour to check in- it was so busy and hectic. When we got to the room, there were no towels or toiletries. I had to hunt the cleaning staff to get some things for the room. The room was old looking considering how much you pay We came to celebrate my partners big milestone birthday... i called a few days prior to arrange for something... it was not in room... it came a few hours late by a very non-caring staff member... he never acknowledged or apologized for it not being in the room. By the way, they never pickup phone calls...so you physically have to go to the front desk to ask for basically everything! As for the pool, theres no organization. I understand Covid has made it harder but it was poorly poorly organized. We waited since 715 am to get in the pool by 8 am. We sat seated as per the pool guy... once that started lining people up... people from the end of the line just cut people with no regard to people who had come earlier. Dont waste your time or money at this place.

Wasn’t blown away by hotel ambiance. Free BMW rentals however are a nice perk.

The hotel sucked we payed over 600 dollars and it was such as small room and there was a leak so the floor was wet for 2 days and stunk. They also didn’t do anything when we told them about it. The only good thing was the scenery and their pina colada
Andrea C.
Service was not great. Great spot but overpriced for what you get(especially during Covid) and didn’t get to see the goats.
Simon H.
Great venue, drinks and food are amazing.

Utterly filthy. Hotel needs a gut-reno, possibly even to be knocked down. We came in for 2 hours & packed up to go home..that bad.

Could of been better.

For a luxury hotel, it's not all that.

This hotel is technically a 4 star, but I found the service very amateur and under standards to have such high title. Firstly, we arrived tired after a long trip and front desk didn't provide information about wifi, facilities or Covid19 protocols. You will arrive to your room and there is not additional information about that (restaurant policies and swimming pool were very confusing and sketchy in terms of reservation). You call and nobody answer. Don't get fooled by the pictures, rooms are very small and overpriced. We payed for an expensive waterfront view with specific requests and they ignore it completely providing a mediocre view. I found the swimming pool extremely overcrowded and the staff didn't do anything to avoid this. There was not enough hammocks for everyone but they kept allowing people coming over, a dangerous infection nest. I used the iron provided in my room to iron my white blouse for an event and the iron destroyed it because had rust and stained the fabric. I complained and they not only didn't offer me a complimentary laundry service, they lied telling me that laundry was not available but other associate told me it was. I was furious but the staff was careless and basically ignore us. They allow dogs in the rooms, we had a dog left ALONE in a room close to ours barking during 30 min, I found that completely unsanitary and doesn't state clearly in the website. A previous pet could had pee in your room and your will never know because irresponsible owners and hotel staff allow this. Terrible for the animal and disgusting for guests. Service room is extremely overpriced. The only nice thing about it was the area which is beautiful and have stunning views, otherwise don't waste your time coming to this mediocre place you will leave upset for paying such amount of money for a poor experience.

Booked 3 nights for me and my wife at this hotel after reading reviews. Room booked and confirmed was a king size bed, with balcony and view of Narragansett bay...well, this is our 2 year anniversary weekend and I was just getting a better room to celebrate it. Checked in , got keys and headed to the room...surprise!: "welcome to our standard , double bed room with no views!". Went downstairs to state a mistake happened that we were sent to wrong room. Got another set of keys to another room...surprise!: "welcome to standard king size bed, no balcony, no view of the bay". Complained and got a call from check-in manager (Jeffrey) basically saying they had a few changes in the morning and the room we booked was no longer available. He tried to give me the excuse that since we booked through Expedia, it is not guaranteed the room I paid for. So, they got paid for a more expensive room and put us in a cheaper one. Did not offer ANYTHING, to make up for their incompetence. "Thanks" for ruining my Anniversary...see you in court.

Do you hear that awful noise? It's the property screaming out for a renovation. Climate control in room is bi-polar. Towels are hand crafted from sand paper. Should you want a a candy bar at night, forget it. It can't be had here. Although on the water, there is no beach. There was a vent in the ceiling of the shower that had not been cleaned since - well ever. The water pressure is that of a grammar school water fountain. There are more, but I'm depressed now from writingng this. Opt for a cheaper property that actually cares about their guests.

Overpriced cocktail s on the 2nd level deck !! The service was very good a lovely waitress!!!! But what was mostly disappointing was the uncleaned deck, umbrella's and exterior of the building itself. They need a separate staff to clean up especially because of the seabirds!!! Everything should be washed down regularly. Beautiful views!!!

Amazing views. Friendly staff

One of my favorite places in Newport. Food is great and the view is just as great. Also the people watching is out of this world.

Expected more from Gurney’s .....and for the price of the stay .....on a good note housekeeping was extremely accommodating and friendly .....

Mediocre. Great location but poorly managed and supervised. The front desk was nice, so was umberto at the bar and servers were kind. But it is obvious the place is poorly managed as it clearly has no organization or direction. They charge a 45 resort fee and literally offer nothing to justify it. If they send you to sit out on the grass they can at least send a couple of servers out there. If you pay a premium and am accustomed to staff that recognizes the importance of customer service. You won’t get that here. There’s hardly ever a pool attendant, always have to ask for them and find out where they are to get a towel. David Smiley the manager is simply not courteous and rude. He was handling the pool during our stay and simply was frustrating. There are not enough seats at the pool during COVID which is really the only selling point of this place (so don’t waste your time or money coming now). Smiley is in charge of it and can’t manage a couple of pool seats. When confronted with the idea of taking a name for a reservation so when a seat opens he says during this day and age we can’t do a list and contact people. Implying that cell phones don’t work during covid. They send you to a deck, but there’s no servers there. It’s basically He’s also just a frustrating person like he’s upset that your upset that the pool situation is completely mismanaged. That’s not what a manager should do. For instance the fire pits outside, half of them don’t work. That’s an easy fix for an attentive manager. It’s like they just don’t care about the guest experience. In conclusion this is NOT a 4 star hotel it at best a 2.5-3. It has potential but is obviously so poorly managed it won’t get there. Many better options, it’s not anything like Montauk. Update: called and had to ask to turn room over. They said ok. Left came back In 2 hours and it wasn’t done. When I called not even an “im sorry” just a “do you want them to come now”. I’ve never stayed at a hotel and spend 700 a night and had them act like it’s a favor to bring me a clean towel. Toilets take two flushes too. This place is truly a motel not a high end hotel.

Great place. Great getaway.

Beautiful resort on Goat island. First class service and amenities. My favorite part was the sunsets right outside our window. A memorable experience and I hope to be back soon!

The service was absolutley horrible. Took over an hour to get a cocktail and management didnt seem to care. Take notice and be more observant of your customers. No plans to return anytime soon.

Great Dinner at the Pineapple Club. Beautiful location.

Our stay was satisfactory at best. The hotel does not appear to be well maintained beyond the lobby as there was chipped/scuffed paint throughout our room, numerous scratches on the furniture (which was extremely plain and mismatched), tiles falling off the walls of the elevators, and disappointing bedding and linens. The restaurants were also disappointing with mediocre food and spotty service. We’d recommend choosing another hotel in town as this one is over priced and misses the mark for a “4-star hotel”.
Stacy L.
Like most, we came here to escape the restrictions of Covid and after 4 months of being cooped up at home, we still wanted to go on our annual trip to Newport. We were long time repeat guests of the Hyatt which is now Gurneys. We’ve stayed here a couple of times since the switch and were not impressed with the new crowd it now brings. However, with the limitations now set forth due to Covid, we wanted to feel free and safe to roam outside should Thames get too congested and uncomfortable for us as we now have a little one. We had our rehearsal dinner/happy hour here a couple of years ago and really enjoyed what they’ve done with the deck and outside space. And while the grounds are stunning and the views are gorgeous, the room accommodations are grossly lacking that “Gurney’s” luster you often read about and see on their social media. We checked in and our room was not cleaned to our standards and we don’t have high standards; I’m talking about crumbs and hair left on the chair, makeup/foundation was left on the table surface — which I had to wipe down with a Clorox wipe; the room was smaller than anticipated which is easily our fault for not realizing but it is TIGHT with two adults and 1 baby; the walls are furniture were all banged up, scuffed up and totally not what you would expected when staying at such an “elite” resort at $1300. They were quick to move us which was great but the NEW room had a balloon left in it which was frustrating as it unfortunately exposes the lack of attention and care that goes into housekeeping especially during a pandemic which is wildly concerning. The kicker to all this, my mother in law surprised us with a welcome gift of cookies and champagne which wasn’t received until the end of the night after her scathing email and complaints. I have to agree with previous guests who have rated this resort as comparable to a motel. I feel so guilty and embarrassed as I pushed my husband to shell out the extra $700 for our stay for that “gurney’s” experience which is subpar at best. We are crammed and uncomfortable staying here. On the other hand, the staff we have so far interacted with, is truly great; kind, professional and courteous. Thankfully they have that going for them...
Matty C.
We had several disappointments. 1. Our room had dirty towels mixed in with clean ones. I called front desk and complained. 2. We were told there was no reservations available to dine for the 3 nights we were there. We were told to go to town or order in our rooms. 3. On the last night after complaining of the lack of hotel service we were accommodated for dining at the restaurant. Our server left us waiting for the Champaign we ordered to be poured glasses to be refilled, no one came over to refill our water, and my chicken dinner was bland. We sat inside and felt completely dismissed because of the crowd dining outside the restaurant. We requested our check and asked to take our full bottle of champagne with us to drink in our room because all outside patio was reserved by the locals. 5. For the price of the restaurant compared to the lack of service. We know the next time we visit Newport we will stay at any other hotel. 6. We happen to run into people whom formally worked at Gerneys and they told us the locals came first for accommodations and not the hotel guests.
Still Wondering What To Call I.
Awesome

If I could give it six stars I would.

Views were incredible, but service and eateries could really use improvement. First night there we ordered chicken fingers and fries for my 2 year old, to get chicken that was rare in the middle. Husband had a burger and was in the bathroom sick all night. Staff seemed annoyed when you asked for help or had a question. Before we could even sit one night for a drink by the firepit, without even greeting us, the server said this is the last call. Double the price than most of the downtown hotels with similar views. The only nice thing was that they did upgrade us to a larger room, otherwise really a disappointment.

Really disappointing

Didn't stay at the hotel but my friend who did had a terrible experience with service for her 30th birthday. I am leaving my review based on the fact that I called the hotel to send champagne and cookies to her room- 3 days prior to her arrival- and they were never sent and I was still charged. I am pending a refund and they just stated they "couldn't" deliver .. but managed to still charge. When my friend asked why she didn't receive it they said a "do not disturb" sign was on the door. Honestly just all sounds fishy to me. I hope others experience a more pleasant stay, but both of our experiences were not great.
Ashley R.
I stayed at the resort 1 night for my 30th birthday & had a party of 10 people for dinner/drinks at the outdoor fire pit restaurant..Both hotel& restaurant were disappointing, 1st a out of town friend had sent a bottle of champaign & cookies to my hotel room (was charged $80) the hotel never delivered either..the restaurant service was extremely slow & took 46mins for a round of drinks, slow service continued throughout the night, dirty plates/empty drinks were not cleared from the table, we were the last party at the restaurant and had to beg for our check to be brought over which took another 40mins...I called the resort the following day to express my concerns, and get a refund for my friend for the undelivered champaign/cookies the manager 3 days later has yet to return my call. Now today I have a $90 charge on my card, had to call again to be told to wait for the manager to call. Not impressed, I would not recommend

This place is disgusting. This is definitely NOT anything close to Gurneys in Montauk. The rooms are a motel at best. Don’t stay here unless that is your expectation.

Beautiful environment to have a drink and watch the water! We enjoyed the grounds.

Had a lovely evening at gurneys post pandemic , enjoying food, drinks and sunsets. Donato the lovely new Italian host was welcoming, attentive and he did everything to accommodate us without a reservation. David the manager was nice and checked on us if we had everything. My top spot for amazing sunsets, service and overall experience is gurneys in Newport.

Y’all I absolutely recommend this beautiful scenic resort. It all started when I walked in and was treated like a queen by Ashley ( could’ve been Karen, not sure) We got to our room and was quickly saddened by the fact that we could trim the plants from our balcony. I called down to ask if we could upgrade to a room on a higher level. well, they did just that. They put us ONE floor higher and y’all it was a magnificent difference. They even delivered ice to our got damn door. Towels were a little Brillo paddy on the ol toosh, but they Sufficed enough. Also, the pool was completely empty , also a beautiful view. God bless y’all.

We were so lucky to experience the Harry Potter Igloo. Our visit was lovely from the minute we walked into gurneys. The customer service was friendly and kind despite it being a busy afternoon. The food and our cocktails were delicious (highly recommend their fried calamari with sweet chili sauce). The view of the Newport bridge and the vast blue background added tranquility to our evening while the magic inside the igloo was simply amazing.
Bill M.
Buttermilk chicken sandwich was the best I ever had. Nice bar right on the water. Great place to relax and enjoy the view.
Nikki F.
The food and drinks are awesome but the service was horrible. The waitress we had displayed poor customer service. We were looking forward to using the igloo for the evening. There was not any reservations for the evening. We waited for the rest of our friends to join us. When we asked about utilizing one of the igloos 30 minutes the igloos were no longer available for the evening. The waitress seemed misinformed about the hotels policy or she was making things up as she went along. We ordered food inside and decided to sit outside on the patio near the fire pit to enjoy the view. The waitress informed us that the food would be going to the table inside. When asked about food being brought outside she stated that she would let the server know and that it should not be a problem. When the food was brought outside she took the opportunity to let us know that this is something that they normally don’t do. We had no problem eating inside but the waitress seemed very confused and irritated with our group. I really enjoyed the food, drinks and beautiful view but the customer service could have been a better!

The whole hotel was so cold! Our rooms were on the other side of a convention space, which felt strange. 90s decoration showed it's age - everything was a bit dingy, worn and run down. Room service was slow, bland and overpriced, none of it fresh. Staff was amazingly friendly. That's the only reason for more than one star. The pool was the size of a match box.
Sissy O.
Had to request a light brought to room, no info in room about pools/sauna, plenty of info on high priced spa. Front desk, room service and housekeeping calls backed up. Jets turned off in Jacuzzi. Beds super comfortable, bathrobes absolutely luxurious. After addressing issues with hotel staff, all issues resolved and treated like royalty.
David D.
You can hear people going to bathroom from the room lol...

We rented an igloo and had drinks. The igloo was filthy. Previous users food was on the table and floor, as well as some undesirable other trash like a cough drop wrapper and used napkin. The table in the middle needed to be wiped and the carpet BADLY needed a vacuuming. Our waitress seemed surprised at our concern about this and informed us that in order for it to be cleaned, they would need to take the furniture out of it. My thought in response to this was “ok, so do that.” Except she didn’t. She left instead. I went to the front desk and they responded as I thought they would and said someone would be out right away. Right away was about 10-15 minutes later and with a hand held vacuum that died shortly into the attempt to clean the carpet. The carpet was better because the woman picked up the food and trash but it basically remained dirty. The table was never wiped until we asked again when our food was coming so we didn’t need to eat on a filthy table. With all that said, the Bloody Mary’s we ordered were lousy too. Paid $100 for the igloo and $150 for the drinks and cheese board. Definitely got the short end of this deal. Yikes.

Food in the lounge is excellent, drinks were good too. I think the food in the lounge is much better than the restaurant.

Got married here! Beautiful setting, great staff and fantastic amenities. I would live her if I could!

While my family and I were excited to stay at Gurney's when we visited Newport for my brother's graduation from the nearby Naval OCS, we were unfortunately less than enamored with our experience. Perhaps it had something to do with coming in during the off-season, but for resort pricing we did not feel that we got our money's worth and spent the rest of our stay in Rhode Island at another accommodation. I don't like giving only negatives, so I'll start with a couple pros. First, the front desk and housekeeping staff were very professional and welcoming, and the lobby area and restaurant were inviting and comfortable. The location is also wonderful, right on the bay with the gorgeous architectural backdrop of the bridge connecting Newport and Jamestown and stunning views from the windows. Regarding the negatives, feel free to take these with a grain of salt. Firstly, the rooms were incredibly small (only about 1-2 feet between any given piece of furniture.) This made moving around difficult and somewhat frustrating. When I went to take a shower after arrival, the steam heating up the glass revealed three large handprints, clearly left by a previous occupant and somewhat reminiscent of a scene from a thriller. There were also some questionable streaks on the bathroom walls. Needless to say, we were careful about touching the surfaces. Then, the center nightstands were equipped with USB plugins for phones. However, neither of these actually worked, leaving us with dead phones in the morning as we tried to prepare for the graduation ceremony. Finally, Gurney's was also the venue for the pre-graduation reception. It was a formal event, but as someone who has planned such events for my job in the past, there were several details which could have made the evening go much more smoothly (faulty sound equipment, choice of plate size for a seated reception, lack of drink service for an event where there were planned toasts during the ceremony, etc.) Finally, a member of the bar staff was incredibly rude to my sisters when they attempted to use their debit cards to pay for drinks at the bar which they did not realize was cash-only due to a lack of signage, rather than simply directing them to the ATM located directly outside in the hallway. Another waitstaff member approached a group of guests lined up for the cash bar in the hallway and told us to go inside the banquet hall in a rather condescending manner, saying there were three others inside, when in reality there was only one (the one with the rude bartender from before). Since we were exhausted from our day of travel and had already booked different accommodations for the next two days, we did not attempt to bring up the issues with the hotel staff for assistance, so I cannot speak to customer service on that front and will give them the benefit of the doubt that they would have done their best to make things right. However, all in all we did not have a great experience and will not be considering Gurney's as an accommodation in the future.
Jessica R.
Worse customer service ever!!! Attempted to rent an igloo weeks in advance while my daughter and I were instate for a college tour and the emails and phone calls were ignored after I requested the specific date and time. I assumed we were all set and called when we arrived in Newport one more time to confirm. The manager of Scarpetta said “sorry, but I cannot physically build you an igloo.” So uncalled for and rude when all I wanted to know was if indeed we had a reservation. Being a business owner, I would think twice about the customer service you are providing to your guests.

Very much over priced... I travel extensively for work and usually stay in hotels of average quality... the hotel quality here is on par with with places that cost about $150 even in expensive cities.
Teshowme M.
Amazing Resort. Lots of activities to do for the family to keep everyone having fun even in the down season.

I'm not sure about the hotel but the restaurant scarpella had so much potential. Too bad we had AWFUL service by one of their waitresses. She absolutely ruined our dinner even the food itself was great.

Clean and delightful!

Nice environment, friendly staff. I would have the lounge bar stay open longer than what it does though! Additionally, the goats are the best!

I originally wanted to rent their igloo pop-up for my boyfriend's birthday this upcoming week and I tried contacting them through email and phone multiple times on different days but no response on either end. Maybe it's for the best.

We were there for a company function in the winter. The service was excellent. Ask for a room with a view of the water. The food was on point. The room was clean, comfortable bed, with oversized robes..spa services. Lovely place.

So much fun

Surprised I didn't take any photos.

1st and last visit. Only went for the igloo rental. Poor service. Messy dirty igloo. Broken glass inside. Dirty carpet. Ridiculously priced drinks. No desire to return.
Mark F.
Wonderful venue for weddings and special events.
Melissa D.
Cool igloos and ice rink. Did I mention the goats? Italian restaurant is great.
Cheryl P.
We enjoyed our stay here near the holidays and particularly appreciated the staff. From the bar tenders, to the front desk staff, to the shuttle drivers and valets, everyone was so helpful and accommodating. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet, and the view was gorgeous, but the bathroom was tiny and had 1 hook in the entire room and almost no counter space,. The bedroom itself was dark and could have used another lamp or 2. Small concerns but our stay certainly wasn't inexpensive. We didn’t have time to eat in the main restaurant but the bar was cozy and lively and the food was great.
Mary O.
Lovely experience.

ice skating, rink could use some work didn't feel like the ice was in great shape

Our company christmas part was held here. The service was prompt and friendly, but the food was very disappointing. Dry, flavorless salmon and pork, tough steak, and deserts that could have come from the freazer section at Wal-Mart. Shame on them!

Told us they upgraded our room.. we got there and the toilet was broken.. great upgrade. Had to walk across the resort to go back to the front desk (with all of our luggage) to get a new room. They gave us another room and the shower was filling up past my ankles after 2 minutes of being in the shower.. called the front desk 17 times for assistance and kept getting disconnected. They attempted to refund us a portion of our stay but didn’t want to give us the money but instead told us they’d give us a hotel credit. After telling them multiple times we weren’t interested in that they finally refunded our card. Won’t be staying again.. ever. Aside from that the resort was beautiful. That’s the only reason it’s getting 2 stars instead of 1.
David F.
Very disappointed to leave a 3 star review, but it's based on expectations not being met. We decided to have dessert at the lounge and ordered the Apple Tatin Napoleon to share. We received the dish which was made up of 2 nearly paper-thin slices of apple, atop 2 thin puff pastry pieces, a broken piece of brittle and a minute, melting scoop of ice cream sloshing on the plate. The sauce was smeared (not nicely placed) over a boring looking plate suitable for a school cafeteria (see picture). The service was "meh" and just going through the motions. For $11 in a very upscale hotel, there was absolutely no value. I'm not giving 1 star because the lounge and music were good.
Lila Y.
Skating rink small but not busy and of course cant beat the view. Hot chocolate bar a hit. One negative is the bar drink...terrible Bloody Mary!
Kyle M.
Came here for dinner. Very little here that is suitable for a non seafood eater / less rich foods. Didn't end up eating. I'm sure it's fine though. 3 stars for food options, 4 stars for location, 5 stars for the service. I feel bad leaving 3 stars but I didn't eat here so I really have no input regarding what the quality of food is...
Ruben M.
Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Lots of activities available
Sarah G.
From the staff to the amenities, the ambience to the view, our stay was perfect in every way. They think of everything. Activities for the kids, ice skating, exceptional drinks and dining and proximity to area happenings. Kudos to management and staff for creating and maintaining such a hospitable experience. And, per our daughter 'exceptional hot chocolate.' ????

I’d love to go the full 5 star because the place is BEAUTIFUL, but I paid $8.00 for a bottle of Narragansett Lager (6 pack is $5.69)

We're at Gurney's for our first anniversary! Lovely ocean views from the room ???? service is excellent

Pretty resort with excellent breakfast. We went in the off-season so much was closed, but there was enough for it to be a nice base to explore Newport.
Bojena J.
Don’t miss the pineapple club!
Andrew R.
I went to my first chili cook off here, and it sure was swell. Gurney's own chili was 2nd best for me, after "Pour Judgement," which changed the game with a sweet herb chili and a jazzed up sour cream. Dang girl. There was a bar right next to the chili room where you could grab a $5 beer and get some space for whatever digestive needs you may have. But the highlight of the venue was the lobby-- where they were staging a brand new sport that was truly awesome-- full contact Cornhole. These kids were modern gladiators. The bigger kids' size advantage was countered by the younger kids' bloodthirst, and there was true gender equality which kept things balanced. It was great because their parents were occupied with the chili and the kids were allowed to discover something new and wonderful. I saw a sign once that read "the only good protective parent is a dead protective parent."

Beautiful place to stay and the views are stunning. Definitely going to go back next summer!!
Kimberly K.
Beautiful views, great service. David Smiley was most accommodating
Cynthia C.
This hotel is a grand place. I am giving 5 stars because I am impressed with the hospitable customer service. Valet Dave let me park near the door. The professional staff at the front desk were polite. Definitely recommended.
Alexander W.
A little overpriced. Rooms and definitely used. Nice views and great bar
Radio B.
Nice place, most of the rooms have been newly renovated, bathrooms were their weak point, not quite as clean as I would have expected for the price. Not bad but not spotless. Beds were very comfortable, rooms were quiet. Staff was very friendly and responsive. Much better than before it changed hands. Conference rooms still a little dated, could use a facelift but still perfectly acceptable. Overall a very nice experience.

Amazing food! Service was 5 star...

The location was outstanding. The guest rooms were ok, and the food was awesome. Overall, a great experience

The place is not worth the hype, decor needs updating. The restaurant was not worth it.

Unpleasant stay at Gurney’s Newport. Despite having the Gurneys name, the hotel’s amenities are largely subpar. The rooms are very average while the service was poor, especially given the hefty price per night. The hotel appears to be a 2-3 star hotel with just the Gurney’s name applied as a right to overcharge. I would recommend a hotel closer to the center of town, as having to take a shuttle proved to be a drawback to the location. Maintenance entered the room at odd hours (late in the evening) and was unannounced, giving us an uncomfortable feeling and impression of general service.

The hotel is a very nice one with a great view from every window. When it comes to the location, I would give it a A+ because of how easy it is to walk into town and to get to the tourism office. The rooms are nice and tidy, and every room has a very nice view of the surroundings. The food is very nice and one of the key highlights is the view of the Claiborne bridge, where the Americas cup is hosted. The best part is that the sun sets right behind the bridge. Overall, would highly recommend for a tour of Newport.

Not a bad place

This is nice hotel, with awesome lobby and the bars. Nice rooms as well. But just any other hotel it has its own issues. My room and probably the rest of the rooms didn't have a power outlet on the computer desk, how do you charge your phone or your laptop if you don't have an outlet? The closest one is over the couch. Another issue is the shower, I was standing in the pool of water because it wasn't going down the drain. Other than that it was a good experience

I had an amazing stay here in September. The rooms are good (not great) but the property is absolutely spectacular. Surrounded by water, fire pits, Adirondack chairs and hammocks everywhere, awesome bars, restaurants and coffee shops, beautiful views, bikes to use, and within walking distance to downtown Newport. I couldn’t have loved my time here any more.

You can't just change the name on a Hyatt and start calling it a luxury resort. I was so disappointed in our recent stay at Gurney's that I'm writing my first ever google review. Let me start by saying it is a fine standard chain hotel. The room was small but nicely appointed. The bathroom was small with almost no counter space. However, we were expecting (and paying for) a "luxury resort" which it most certainly was not. We booked a "falling for newport" package on a weeknight for $449. Standard king room (small, nothing fancy). With the package we were to receive: a room upgrade (if available), late checkout, a bottle of rose the evening of arrival and a $60 breakfast credit. Upon arrival we were told no room upgrade would be given. I was told we could use the breakfast credit on room service but "to make sure room service knew" we had a breakfast credit. We never received our evening rose. I called the front desk at 7:45 (because they told me it would arrive between 5p-7p) and the front desk told me to call room service. I called room service, they had no record of our room to receive the wine. Eventually they brought the wine and two glasses. No ice bucket or tray, just the bottle and glasses. Now I could have absolutely gone down the hall to the ice machine and filled the bucket to keep the wine cold, but really? At a luxury resort you receive your chilled wine in a bucket! As instructed by the front desk I called room service to let them know about the breakfast credit before ordering breakfast for the next morning, Room service told me they don't take breakfast orders and just put the hang tag on the door. I did. We received our breakfast on time. Coffee served with no cream and my hot pot of tea came with the tea bags already steeping so it was practically black. Most places service tea bags on the side. I called room service again to get some cream for the coffee and a pot of plain hot water. Our package came with late checkout yet house keeping knocked on the door at 9am.... Upon checkout I had to dispute the charge for the wine on our bill which was supposed to be included in our package. Then you can imagine I was thrilled to find out we had to pay an additional $40 "resort fee"! For what, I'm not sure?!?!?! There were certainly no resort level services provided. Again, this was a fine standard chain hotel. Yes, a cool destination if it were on season and we could have use the patios and lawn. But off season we felt it was way over priced, disappointing customer service and definitely better places to choose.

I found a live child in my salad and the manager had to come and throw him away and get me a new salad. A roach was in my bed. Overall 5 stars.

Overall, I had a very disappointing experience here. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding held here, and Gurney's added stress to an already stressful weekend. I knew I was running late for check-in, due to traffic. (It's a 4+ hour drive from us.) I called ahead, explained very nicely that I'm worried I'm running late, the rehearsal is at 4, I probably won't arrive until about 3:20. That should be enough time for me to bring my stuff in, get changed, do my hair and makeup, and get to the rehearsal. So long as they have the room ready for me when I get there. They assured me that wouldn't be a problem. Spoiler: it was. I arrived right at 3:22. Check right in. THE ROOM WASN'T READY. Naturally I'm freaking out. And watching my getting ready time tick away by the minute. I waited for and additional HALF HOUR. The room wasn't ready until 3:55! I had to race in, and do everything like a tornado. The bell girl was very nice and helpful, but as I was in such a big rush, her hanging all the clothing in the closet in the bathroom was impeding my already clearly zero time. Normally I would have been very appreciative of her help and service. The next day, we discovered there were ants in our room. For paying over $500 a night for a hotel, I do not expect any such problems. It was not cute. Anyhow, went to the hair/makeup. Naturally, running around doing a million things. Unfortunately it was a bit cold and windy outside that day. The bride had a beautiful fur tube to slip over her shoulders. No one at the hotel, including the wedding coordinator, had large size safety pins to help make it fit better. What if she needed that for the dress? Seemed underprepared. Wedding was outside. Cocktail hour was supposed to be outside also, but because of the weather had to move inside. They still had a poor bartender out there with a full bar. Anyhow, wedding was beautiful! But just saying that for the price paid to stay at this hotel, they added a lot of stress, especially to the check in process. I have stayed at hotels of all different ilks before, and I've never stayed at one so expensive, that couldn't pull together getting a room ready before 3pm. Ever. Or had ants in the room. I know the hotel also did some things to stress the bride out, and went back on promises they made her in writing, but I'll let her leave her own review.

I have never been treated better than at this Gurneys. The staff was unbelievable. Especially Margret at front desk and David the bellhop. Outstanding. I will be back at Gurneys not only for their exquisite hotel, but top notch staff. Rita Jennings

Wonderful views. Excellent hotel and very close to Newport's Downtown
Jamie K.
View is amazing, my humus came out with wilted vegetables and the service on the deck was slow.
S R.
The grounds of the resort are really nice. You're on your own island with beautiful views of the water. There's a lighthouse, hammocks, adirondack chairs, goat house, pool with cocktail servers, outdoor bar with fire pits, and outdoor restaurant right by the pool. The only critique I could give the outside is for staff to be more vigilant in cleaning up the seagull poop. It was everywhere- On the pool deck, on the outdoor seat cushions...It was definitely kind of gross to see bird poop all over. The room however, was VERY disappointing, especially for such an expensive resort. The room reminded me of a dirty cheap motel. Scuff marks all over the walls, the grout in the bathroom looked gross, room was dark, tub in the bathroom was one of those old dated tall tubs where you almost need a stepstool to climb over, no vent in bathroom, no outlets by nightstand, and couldn't even order room service because the menu in there was old. Even though everything outside was great, I just don't think the price was worth it considering the condition of the room.
Susanne D.
I could live poolside here...forward my mail!

Getting married at Gurney's Newport was amazing, ten stars across the board! From our first meet and greet to the final goodbye was said the morning after, everything was perfect. The team's professionalism and attention to detail was superb during the entire planning process. Jacquelyn was there for every step, even for my many after-hour questions and crazy ideas. During the day of the event, Jacquelyn and her team had every aspect covered. Even when the wind kicked up during the ceremony, they dropped everything (literally their radio and name tag) and were there to help me get down the aisle without blowing away. The location was beyond perfect, on the lawn with the bridge in the background was beyond perfect in every way. The venue it’s self was beautiful, inside and out. And the food – it was beyond what we expected, guests are still raving about their meals. We had the opportunity to have an after-party which was also very accommodating from food to the entertainment of the fire-pits, etc. And the next morning we had an amazing breakfast in the same room we hosted our wedding. Our out of town guest loved the experience and even talked about coming back for their own vacations in the future. I could not have asked for a better experience with Gurney’s Newport. If I could do it all over again, I would in a heartbeat and would not change a thing!

I love the atmosphere are Gurney's my husband and I love to go there in the evening to have a bite of food and a drink over the weekend! The best view of Pell Bridge.

Everything about the stay was nice, except that the doors into the hallway and between rooms are paper thin! By the end of my two day stay, I knew my room neighbors by name, what they had for dinner, that they hated their office job, etc. and I had never even seen them. Even with headphones on I could hear them talking! Until they get thicker doors/better insulation, I cannot recommend this hotel over a holiday inn. At least there the prices will reflect the quality of the stay.

Newport is a great area Great seafood Great to cycle around Cliff walk is very cool ???? too
Nicholas M.
Rooms were just ok. Toilets sound like a tornado is ripping through the room and had no ventilation fan. They tried to double charge me for parking—the attendant charged $20 then they added $35 to the room. Also, there is a “resort fee” of $35 that seems an unnecessary way to get a few more dollars out of a customer already paying c. $500 a night (Management, this is not very classy). The wedding reception on premises was very well done, however.
Marc R.
The amenities are excellent Front staff very helpful, waitress and waiters excellent. Food amazing. The down side were thr rooms. We Had a 2 story Room, which sounds nice. Which ran about 400 ish after labor day. Before labor day I suspect well over 1000 as the basic rooms were close to 1000 after taxes and fees. If I would have payed that much in season for this room I would have been very disappointed. The rooms and bathrooms are very narrow. Couch not comfortable at all ,beds are ok. I was expecting the rooms to match ammentits in quality I was found to be disappointed.

Hotel was great. The outdoor area of fire pits and seating was amazing. The pool is great too. Hotel very clean and service was outstanding. However, the rooms are a bit outdated for the price. I would recommend that the hotel update them. But besides that, overall it was a lovely stay.

Love the spa here! My mother and I are local to Newport and during the week they offer a discount to residents for services. We always go to Arleinne for facials and Nicole for pedicures, and both ladies are WONDERFUL! We have been going to them for years now, and they always do an awesome job. I suggest making a day out of it. The spa is super clean, the amenities are nice, and view can't be beat.

Top notch! Incredible service all the way around. They take great pride in their property and most importantly their guests. Always a pleasure spending time here at Gurney’s!

Definitely a popular local hangout where Gurney's has tried to bring their trendy locale to Newport, reviving the former depilated and tired Marriott property. The bar/patio area serves great drinks, but expect to pay top end Newport pricing, but you are treated to pleasant views of Newport Harbor and the Jamestown bridge. Outdoor seating is somewhat limited and there are few places available to comfortably stand without being in a high traffic zone. The hotel does a good job of bringing in live music performances to entertain the outdoor patio crowd, es[ecially during Jazz Fest. Gurney's was limited in their ability to fully transform the former Marriott property - see the low and uninspiring lobby ceilings that detract from the open and airy atmosphere elsewhere in the restaurant and indoor/outdoor bar area - however, the property revival is a welcome addition to the Newport scene. Few places in Newport can provide a similar level of exclusiviety and ambiance, without the masses encroauching on your every move - definitely a place where people go to be seen, or at least tell you they were there. Unfortunately, or fortunately, Gurney's Montauk, being on Goat Island, is very far removed from nearly all of the rest of Newport and other amenities, necessitating transportation.
Raju L.
Excellent for hangout. Potatoes finger fries was authentic.

Watched for nearly an hour as a bird stuck in some sort of line strung across the roof below my window struggled. I called the front desk 3 times asking for help. Finally, I went down and was treated with disdain. The engineer eventually put a ladder up and cut the bird free then left it to die there. When I went back down, the desk clerk rolled his eyes and said “what do you want me to do”. I’m horrified and disgusted

I love it here! The pool was wonderful and the food was done exactly how I wanted it! I totally recommend.

fantastic place, good food and the staff is friendly and courteous. The view is breathtaking and we had a awesome time
Sophia B.
The pool is great, but our room was underwhelming. The mini fridge was broken and there was mold and flies in the bathroom. I told the front desk about it and they said they’d send someone to fix both issues, but never did. For $500 a night, I’d expect something AT LEAST clean and functional. But honestly, I was hoping the room would be incredibly special, and it was so disappointing.
John N.
The room is way too outdated. Feel more like a motel. But the atmosphere is great.
Liesel F.
Amazing view but service was really slow and when one of our drinks tasted funny the manager made us feel like we had done something wrong. For 10+ dollar drinks you should get it made right.

I can’t begin to go into all the details. We had our wedding at castle hill and our rehearsal dinner of about 100+ at gurneys. Amira, Amira, Amira, plus Maddy, Victor, and Emily at the front desk. Every single person went above and beyond to make sure our stay went perfectly. We had a hiccup at check in, Amira handled it flawlessly and made any wrong a right! She is a true professional. The grounds are fantastic. Beautifully renovated, with a great vibe, for families, couples and or groups! My wife and I can’t thank them enough. We had about 20 rooms, the food was fantastic, and the staff is very friendly. Not stuck up. Amira, thank you! You made our weekend. Sincerely, Jordan and Lauren

True rating is closer to 3.5, but I definitely wouldn't give this place a 4. Have to co-sign the 'overpriced, under-delivered' sentiment in other comments. Was here for several days, at no point did someone from the concierge or front desk answer the phone. Was always 8+ rings and then a transfer to another team. I got a room with a deck and they didn't bother to clean the bird poop off the glass...I get that birds poop there, that part isn't a big deal, but would it kill you to welcome me with a clean deck? Bathroom had hair all over it, we kept finding hair in the most random stuff (like our bread?). Since I got a room with a deck/patio/whatever, the views were pretty good, sunrise and sunset especially. Didn't get to use much of the facilities...the restaurant was nice (waitstaff was very kind and professional), but I checked out the indoor pool and there was a random towel floating in it. The rooms are underwhelming, I felt like I had been teleported to 1992 or something. No USB ports, only 4 available outlets, ended up unplugging stuff to make sure we could charge everything. Didn't have any issues with noise or with the other customers, but I also spent more of my time at Belle Mer and other places than at the Gurney's (other than sleeping) Overall was pretty disappointed considering the price. The food was good but the menu was smaller than expected, the rooms were very underwhelming, but I imagine the views and the amenities are why people stay here. I will say that once I was able to actually get in contact with with staff, they were pleasant and helpful, but the only time it happened in a timely manner was in-person. Likely won't be staying here the next time I'm in Newport (if ever).
Christine H.
Love the decks!
Brett C.
Overpriced and under delivered is a common theme at this hotel. For $800++ a night I expect more and so should you. Total mediocrity and I'm literally shocked that the staff just doesn't care. Marriott much better.
Nancy B.
Rooms are basic. Broken toilet. Loud music all day until 9pm. Dog barking in the next room all night. Half full wine glasses left near our door by another guest that remained there all day into the next day. Also had to endure meals next to people that used racial slurs—twice. The facilities (not the rooms) and the food are solid. The spa is top notch. It’s the clientele that really is a challenge at this place. Especially on a 4th of July weekend.

1. Most dog-unfriendly “dog friendly” hotel we ever stayed at. Can’t bring your dog to almost any common area. Can’t get your room cleaned while you leave your dog in the room (since you couldn’t bring him with you anywhere). 2. Very lackadaisical service outside of the restaurants. Good on site restaurants (Scarpetta) are the only thing going for this property. 3. The rooms show their age - ours had a random fungoid wire / metal plaque hanging off the bathtub wall into the bathtub, for example. We complained about it (and other things) and nobody bothered to fix it or give us a different room. 4. Other small features you’d normally take for granted, like a business area with a working printer, don’t exist. But they’re happy to charge you $5 for 15 minutes and not refund you when you realize that the printer you paid for, taking its existence for granted, doesn’t exist. Overall very disappointing, and the hotel doesn’t do the surrounding town justice.
Ruth L.
Hotel is very rundown for the price ($500+/night).

Wow, what a hotel. Seriously enjoyed the two nights here, even during a cool and grey early May weekend. Great staff, especially the valets and shuttle drivers. Every space, room, and corner is clean, attractive, and fits the theme. The patio and outdoor area is beautiful with fantastic views. Rooms are top notch and the bar in the lobby is great. Obviously the location is amazing, being on its own island. Free shuttle to and from downtown. Had a wonderful experience and would absolutely stay again.

Such a great hidden place off main drag in Newport RI. At the end of land surrounded by water Has its own light thouse, outside patio with firepits. Nice place. My friends stayed a weekend and loved it.
Christopher Y.
Had an awesome time over the weekend at Gurneys Newport. Check in staff was very friendly, pool was fantastic, beautiful property! Only thing I would say about it that could be better is small details. Outside cushions near fire pits were extremely dirty and it looks like they just flip them to hide it. A hotel of this calibur should have that managed! Very cozy rooms and great staff. Thanks for a great time
Bret R.
Nice place

Decent spot but overpriced
Edward H.
Considering the price, the overall quality was quite poor. Waitstaff was not pleasant and a pushy. Food was okay. Decor was bland. Outdoor pool and seating area was very nice. Gym facilities were well maintained Wish we had stayed at the Marriott right next door
Randy C.
Absolutely stunning. The interior is wonderfully decorated and the view of the water is also incredible.
Keith B. K.
I have stayed here twice & will stay here again. It’s “The” hotel on Goat Island in Newport RI. The place is a great place for family’s with a super outside setting areas. If you want to take a seat in the grass to watch boats going past, to just have that quiet time alone or have a drink, this is the place. I’ll be back soon. You can get a king room or a nice 2 bedroom suite. When staying in Newport this place is worth every dollar, we enjoy staying here and we will be back soon.
Sandra A.
We stayed here this past week and were not overly impressed. The grounds and the rooms were fine but not above average. The location was really its main perk for us. The people at the front desk were very confused on the spring package we booked and three different people gave us different information on how to use our credits. When we called to question the additional charges on our bill after our return home, the front desk manager Victor was extremely rude, condescending, and unprofessional. If that’s the service Gurneys offers, we have no reason to return there. Not worth the price and aggravation.
Phil H.
The renovated outdoor patio space and waterfront bar are an excellent venue to catch the Newport sunset. Relatively pricey, but definitely tasty drinks in a tough to beat location.

This is not a resort, especially in the off season. It's a great location, which makes the room rates fine at $170 in the off season. But to charge a resort fee, when you don't have any resort amenities, is outrageous. Maybe during peak season their amenities are better. But the amenities are sub par for a hotel in general, never-mind calling it a resort - they don't even have an indoor hot tub - or coffee or spa water or anything! I asked the front desk what the resort charge is for and they said the indoor pool (super small) and the shuttle that drives you less than a mile downtown. I can Lyft on my own or walk. We have stayed here before - and it is peaceful and beautiful - but I feel tricked and over charged, so never again. I just don't like to pay for something I am not getting.
Andrew B.
We had a wonderful stay here. All the staff was very polite, from the moment we got there until we checked out. Room service was always spot on and the meals were outstanding. Beautiful views all around and a great night life. Looking forward to staying again!
David S.
The stay was okay, but not consistent with the cost. The facility is aging and not being taken care of. The bathroom was literally falling apart, with tiles falling off the wall. The wait to get food at the bar was about 2 hours, so that wasn't ideal either. Room service left breakfast plates in the hall all day long which was rather unpleasant. I will find other accommodations when visiting the area.
Hilda G & Kevin C.
We were here for a conference. Had a difficult time finding staff members when needed. Also noticed they were not very thoughtful to those who may have wheelchair needs. I attached a pic of the wheelchair entrance/exit from the parking structure. Luckily we dont have any wheelchair needs but we could not even find a staff member to inform of the potential problem.
A. C.
Spent that last 4 days and 3 night here. In my opinion- too costly for what you get, specially in off-season. Resort fee ($10 a night discount for our retreat, usually $20) should not be charged when you can't use more than half of the "amenities." It was $172 a night (off season price). No closet in room just and open area to hang clothes. Balcony views were excellent and walking train was nice to the little light house. The indoor poor is tiny - don't waste your time. Goat island isn't close to the shops/restaurant for walking. Car needed unless you REALLY love walking. Room was nice but not resort level - could have been so much better. Bed was very comfortable.

Beautiful views of the bay. Simply blessed to be here at Family Life's Weekend to Remember... Celebrating another great day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 150:6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord ! Praise the Lord ! Psalms 69:34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them. Lamentations 3:22?-?24 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. "The Lord is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him." We have been coming to this Marriage Retreat Getaway for several years and stayed at this location."Gurneys Newport" has made beautiful improvements to the property and this year was by far the best stay we have had ....Great Hotel with Exceptional Service and add in the Breathtaking views, makes this a perfect place to praise God for His great faithfulness...We would come again if we had the opportunity... God is so good!! All the time !!

I contacted Gurney's to host a private party of 20 and received impeccable service from Megan Kenney, their food and beverage manager. I highly recommend Megan and Gurney's for working diligently to provide a custom, professional experience for your party.
Steve R.
Great food, picturesque scenery out on the deck with fire pits. They opened their doors to the public during a gas outage that affected the whole city. It was a very nice gesture to feed the families of Newport while they were unable to cook. Very nice staff and a great place for a wedding
Justin S.
We had a great experience at Gurney's. The staff were friendly, including a manager (who's name I wish I had caught) immediately suggesting the parking spots where I could charge my Tesla without having to ask as we pulled up to check-in. The outdoor amenities were nice, including the fire pits and igloos which you could enjoy without pressure to purchase a drink - as it should be since they have a "resort fee." The temporary ice rink was in poor condition, however. Even after a fresh resurfacing, my wife who competitively figure skated in the past left after a few laps because most people were struggling to skate on it.
Janet R.
Way over priced for drinks

Newport winter festival , comedy show, was good

Ice skating rink was not that cool. Beautiful and on the water but the skates were not sharp. But at least it was wicked cheap.

Winter Carnival is in full swing in Newport. It’s been on the calendar since last year, so it’s a bit of a surprise when menu items are not available and the signature drinks from the lounge are being served in mandatory plastic cups. That’s understandable poolside, or outside by fire pits and igloos, but those of us who strategically planned our dinner reservations around getting a seat for the live music for après dinner drinks and dessert in the lounge ended up with an abbreviated dessert menu and plastic cups. You can do better, Gurney’s! It’s a let down after the lovely room and day in the amazing Seawater Spa.
Johanna L.
We booked a room during Winterfest, to enjoy the skating rink the pool and have a nice meal. The skating rink was a bit of a disappointment. It was poorly groomed (alot of slushy pits to manuever around) It was kind of small and very crouded. It would have been nicer if they run the zamboni that was parked right there and maybe limited the time it was opened to the general public. The pool was nice. The room was nice and with a great view, but there were alot of very noisy families with young children running wild yelling in the halls. Scarpetta restaurant was a huge disappointment. We wish we had ordered room service instead. We had a 9:00 reservation and they were in a big rush to get us out. The staff at the hotel were curtious. We stayed at the Gurney's in Montauk a few years ago. We were expecting this one to be just as fabulous. It doesn't really measure up.

This review is less about the resort (we weren't staying there) and more about the Regent Lounge and great bartender, Stephanie. Attended an event at the Gurney and sat at the bar. Within a few minutes it was packed with people 2-3 deep and this went on for a few hours. We waited a good amount of time to get attention for our first drinks (not a problem, it's busy). After ordering from Stephanie we were impressed with the attention we received for the next few hours even while she was faced with an onslaught of patrons. She regularly checked on us and we witnessed her attend to her job in a poised, friendly and professional manner throughout, what must have been, a very tiring afternoon. Thanks Stephanie for being part of an enjoyable afternoon. The lounge/bar is lucky to have you.

We did not stay here, but attended a couple of events. The staff we encountered were helpful and friendly. The building is easy to get to from public parking, though it is a cold, if short, walk across the bridge. More space in the partitioned ballroom could have been allotted to one of the events we attended, due to its popularity. The setup inside the space, however, was probably not attributable to the venue itself; though the reorganization still would not have alleviated the cramped conditions much.

I went with a few friends to a chili cook-off at this hotel. I believe it's called goat Island. The parking was free the views are really good.

Great location. Great service from the hotel staff. Waitresses and bar staff were amazing. Definitely recommended.

Great amenities, fun event for Winterfest. So many warming stations outside and pods for gathering to view the bridge.

Beautiful place really has that New England seaside feeling. Really takes you back to when our great nation was settled. Highly recommend this place if you like history, seafood, & sailing.
Shruti S.
Firstly, the experience at Gurney's was good. We got a room with waterfront view and it was really good and cozy. Secondly, there's a place with fire just outside the resort for people who want to relax and take in the view of the water in the cold winter. Thirdly, there's also spa services available. I had taken the seawater spa massage for 50 minutes and Mikaela (hope I have spelled the name correctly) gave a really good massage, which was relaxing. Lastly, although the prices of the resort and spa services is a bit expensive, it is really worth the money spent for the services received.

Impressive community organization with National Grid during the recent state of emergency regarding natural gas. Kudos not only to the National Grid staff but all the employees of Gurney's. You were so nice!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Gurney's Newport Resort. Staff could not have been more generous and accommodating. We were there at a not so pretty time of year but still found the Gurney a beautiful and more than pleasant place to stay. Highly recommend.

Great stay, great staff.

I recently stayed at your Hotel. Nickel and time everything. Supposedly free WiFi but charged 20.00 a day for 2 days. Total 40.00 for resort fee. ( which I was told at desk resort fee included pool and WiFi) if you charge 20.00 a day and have 100 rooms your charging $2,000 a day for WiFi. Not a bad deal for you. Ps rooms and pool cold
Jacki V.
Staff is friendly, rooms are great. Always lovely to stay here for our business meetings.

Went to the Thanksgiving feast and it was worth it! Excellent service. Took all the headache of cooking away this year. Thank you for a wonderful seat by the floor to ceiling windows.

Wonderful hotel right on the water. Has great views of Narragansett bay. The staff is courteous & always willing to help you with whatever. Great place during the summer.

The view from the lighthouse is very beautiful. We have to go inside the hotel to be able to enjoy a closer view of the lighthouse.

I stayed in 1321 which has a view of the light house. The room was extremely comfortable except for the desk chair which was definitely NOT comfortable. The bathroom came equipped with robes and slipper which I really liked wearing around the room. The facilities at the resort were comfortable. The gym had modern equipment and it was a nice workout spot. The indoor pool was standard and I don't recall seeing any seating by it. Obviously the outdoor pool was closed. There is a nice outdoor walking path and you can visit the goats. There was a small gift store where you could get sunglasses or sweatshirts. The hotel has a free shuttle that takes you across the bridge to town (just about a mile) but no shuttle to the airport. The coffee shop was nice and their scones were delicious. They have a spa but I didnt use it. Conference facilities were nice amd the banquet food was good.
Chris W.
Great views; nice, clean rooms; great location with complementary shuttle to downtown.
Lara W.
Location is absolutely beautiful, service is impeccable, and rooms are clean with all the amenities you could want. Fire pit area outside on the patio is a great place to unwind. Only complaint is that the walls are incredibly thin, so you hear every sound from accompanying rooms while in your own room at night.

Aside from the resort and location being a slice of heaven on earth, the staff at Gurney's really stood out to me. Every staff member was smiling and helpful, and you could tell they took great pride in their work. I never wanted to leave.

Hidden gem of a resort off the coast of Newport RI, called Goat island. We docked our boat at the marina. There are many amenities and you get the feeling that you are at an all inclusive. Three restaurants on property including Pineapples which faces the Newport bridge. They have the best jerk chicken skewers and calamari. Brian, our bartender, delivered service that made us feel like royalty. Gorgeous scenery, attention to every detail... The outdoor firepits and patio furniture were a nice way to unwind after a long day. We will definitely be back! The goats, Cornelius and William, were also a nice surprise!
Nicholas M.
Parking was great for the boat show. Cute yard with the lighthouse, but wish the gist enclosure was larger.

Very, very, pricey for the food you get. Service was great but I will not go back. Only giving it three stars because the food was okay. Very expensive! I'm speaking about the restaurant. Did not stay at the hotel.
Geo G.
Nice place but not worth the price. The outside seating, bar, etc is really nice with a great view and a couple live goats but the food is not worth the price. So many places around with better food and more affordable pricing.

Went there for my cousin's wedding. The food and service was outstanding. The venue itself was amazingly decorated. I would highly recommend this location for a wedding to any of my friends and family.

Location amd atmosphere were great. Amenities included pool with wait staff and free water sports (kyack, paddle board), which was nice. Room was ok. Neither the massages nor the food was worth the price and the service was absolutely horrendous. We tried to eat on property twice and both times they got my order wrong and my husband and I ended up having to eat in shifts. He ate first while I waited for them to fix it and I ate second, once an hour later because we were so frustrated that the second time my burger came back completely raw we left and went somewhere else. What is even worse is that neither the wait staff nor the front desk staff when we checked out and we answered them honestly to their question “how was everything?” offered to do anything about it. When I pay $700 a night for a hotel room, I expect better service than that. Everyone makes a mistake once in a while but the better hotels make up for it so that by the time you leave you still feel like you got value from the stay. I won’t be seeing you again any time soon Gurney. AMF

The resort is very stylized - nice perk they have three Tesla's for the guests to use - the staff is very professional - close to the main strip - the room was spacious and modern - the outside was very cool - there are a ton of fire pits with couches - the pool area is large with a restaurant/bar & the one of the best things there is Scarpetta - amazing
Joseph A G.
Very nice accommodations and amenities. Pool, beautiful views, and a great shuttle service into downtown Newport, RI. The prices are very high, but the convenience for weddings held at Bel Mer make it bearable.
Burt G.
Terrible rooms
Mark L.
Wonderful experience! The hotel, pool, restaurants, and service is all very good. I appreciate the location away form downtown Newport yet with easy access via the bridge walking or the courtesy vans. The pool can get loud with music, but it is a fun atmosphere. Plenty of places to sit and watch the boats pass while enjoying good cocktails. The rooms are very nice with good views.

If you are looking for a first class experience,, this is not it. Very expensive for the venue. Spa has a lot to do before it can be considered first class -which is what it charges. The massage was wonderful but the amenities were terrible. The shower backed up w/ hair coming out of the drain. The shower had a curtain as opposed to a closed off section. No deodorant. No shaving cream. Scarpetta is very expensive. Food and service were great but not worth the price. For $250 for two people (which included three glasses of wine), it would be nice if we had a tablecloth. The branzino was at best a taster; not a main course. $25 for spaghetti (no meat) is ridiculous. As far as the accommodations go, they were OK at best. Three elevators; one didn’t work during our stay. The room was dingy; smelled of cigarette smoke. Booking a king size Bala only room was a rip off as the seagulls crapped all over the outside balcony. Couldn’t take advantage of it. Having said all that, the service people were great and the location is central to Newport. Very convenient.

We attended the Heritage Fire Festival, or some such nonsense. Heritage pork and beef prepared by a variety of chefs. Excellent food and drinks. I'll attend next year, if I can.

Wat a pleasure it is to live next to this hotel. We walk over for a cocktail at the outdoor bar a few times a night and enjoy our favorite bartender and a beautiful sunset.
Susan B.
What a great place. Lovely view, great rooms and friendly staff. Can't wait to come back.

Decent rooms but I felt that the hotel let itself down with the service in the restaurants. The staff were disorganised, forgetful and gave the impression that they didn't particularly like their jobs. 5* prices, 3* attitudes.

The remodel is very nice, and the outdoor pool area is incredible given it's location. However, it is clear that some corners were cut with the bedding and television, but these detract very little from the overall experience.

This is a grand old throwback to better days. The hotel has had some upgrades over the years, and it is generally in good stead. The staff offer courteous and friendly service. Mild irritants include non-working faucets or a lack of paper towels for drying hands in the restroom. Food served is okay, average by hotel standards. The location is awesome, offering great water views in a setting that's easy on the eye. Nice, but no longer grand... save for high prices.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful resort comfortable beds, great accommodations and most thoughtful and helpful staff. Particularly want to give kudos to Bobby Kaiser (B.K.) who went the extra mile to make sure bags were put in place, that we reached our sailboat cruise on time and make us feel at home. Great trip!. Great experience!!

First, Goat Island and Gurney's hotel are both beautiful and the amenities available at the hotel are fantastic. The spa, bar, and pool are all fantastic. The inside of the rooms are also very nice. The beds are also very comfortable. The place where Gurney's fails to meet expectations is its staff. We tried to reserve a small block of five rooms and had difficulty communicating with the sales team, so booked a block through Expedia (at a cheaper rate too!) When we arrived (after the stated check-in time), a room that we had selected was not available so we were given a room that failed to have the view we had purchased. After some discussion a room was cleaned and we were able to check into the room we had paid for. Later, we were locked out of our room because the door locks were not working (we changed keys several times but the lock itself had to be repaired). The manager worked to remedy the problems we had in the first couple of days so we didn't have any other major issues during our stay, but sometimes our rooms were not cleaned until very late in the day. It seems like Gurney's is still trying to figure out what kind of hotel it wants to be. It has the potential to be a great place to stay, but it isn't quite there.
Kelsey B.
Gurney's Newport Resort is such a beautiful place to get married. This rainbow themed wedding fit perfectly with the sun setting behind the Newport Bridge. I absolutely loved shooting there. The staff were all friendly and helpful, guiding me to the different areas of the building. Having the ceremony and venue in the same location made the wedding day so smooth. The views are phenomenal and this place really has everything...including goats!

Great renovation for this hotel. Extremely friendly and courteous staff. I noticed a few people in training at the front desk, and had they not been wearing a badge saying in training, I would have thought they had been at this hotel for quite some time. Great lobster roll at the pool!

I stayed at this resort when it was a Hyatt me and my husband fell in love with Newport so the following year I booked a week to stay there again, it was still a Hyatt and I got a pretty good deal since I am a Hyatt employee in a different state, the Hyatt sold and I got an email form the GM that stated we can no longer accommodate you for the stay at the resort due to the fact that it is not a Hyatt anymore I thought that was BS I didn't even get 2 days out of the week that I booked.
John C.
The staff at Gurney's was kind and friendly and the room was very clean with a gorgeous view! The pillows and bed were amazing. The room I stayed in had a small balcony that was nice to sit on and enjoy the nice weather and beautiful view. The event spaces next door are large and inviting with beautiful vistas of the bridge and channel. Overall a very enjoyable and lovely experience.

Everytime I visit Gurney's I have a wonderful experience. The staff is friendly, food is great and the views from the rooms are amazing. Charles from valet always greats me with a friendly smile and ensures my time at Gurney's is splendid whether I am enjoying a meal at one of the resteraunts after a motorcycle ride, enjoying a drink and some oysters at the outside bar after sailing or relaxing for the night in one of their exceptional rooms overlooking the Goat Island or the Claiborne Pell bridge. Realxing atmosphere and friendly and professional staff. Thank you Charles. You are the man!

The service and atmosphere was great, water veiws and live music. But I wouldn't recommend eating here. They have small expensive portions and there are plenty of other restaurants in Newport that will actually get what what you pay for.

The stay here was my first time in Newport. Good experience except for the bed bug bites. Only stayed Saturday night, found a blood strain on my pillow in the morning and my hand was itching like crazy. Found a bed bug in the crease of the pillow I was resting on. I let the man at the front desk know at check out and he said they would look into it and seemed to make note of it, but since it was a company party and I didn't pay for the room, don't know who they will follow up with. Ending on a good note, the company party was great. The hotel staff was very accommodating. I'd forgotten my razor, the front desk provided a little kit with shaving cream. I was told they would bring it to the room, but went to get it myself when it hadn't arrived 45 minutes later. The woman at the front desk apologised when i came to pick it up. At dinner, our salads came with bacon and I don't eat pork. When we asked they brought us 2 without. Later in the evening, we found the vending machine only provides snacks, not soft drinks. Another staff member close to the bar brought my husband and I a cup of soda when we asked. The room was comfortable and I slept well, except for what I mentioned about the bed bugs. There was a safe, bath robes, and what I believe were complimentary slippers. The fridge is behind a cupboard door so it blends in nicely with the other furniture. It blended so well I forgot it was there and left my complimentary bottles of water in it. There was a nice view from our window. We met the resident goats, Cornelius and William. You can see them eat twice a day according to the caretaker who was giving them a snack of greens when we walked by to see the little lighthouse and the view of the bridge. Take care at the automatic revolving door at the entrance. It stopped moving as I was coming in at one point and had I been less attentive I might have walked into the glass much harder. I wasn't the only one to have to push my way out a little as I noted when sitting in the lobby Saturday evening. Depending on how much you like to walk, you could leave your vehicle parked on the grounds and go over the bridge to the island and into town. Or you could take the hotel shuttle. We checked out before using that service. Overall though as I said a good experience.
Chesky U.
I recommend the hotel it's a beautiful hotel very nice service very nice and clean rooms I asked for an upgrade and I got it for the original price I would definitely go back again it made my vacation

We loved the resort. The kids really enjoyed the indoor pool. The proximity to Downtown was perfect, we were never more than 5 minutes away from where we wanted to go. We had a great time.
Cheri B.
One word OVERPRICED!!!! We came here for 2 nights for the Weekend to remember Marriage Retreat and since it's off season we got a discounted price. The discounted price is still overpriced. $375 for 2 nights for a hotel that doesn't offer much more than any other hotel. Those attending the conference were given an option to buy breakfast. Choices consisted of bagels and muffins, coffee, tea and soda. All again for a ridiculous price. $4 for a can of soda???? Shame on you Gurney's for being so greedy. I can buy a whole case for $4. Yes the views are great, but the rooms are nothing more than an ordinary hotel room. With it being off season, it's typically too cold to enjoy one of the only things this hotel has going for it - the outside deck and the views. The prices for peak season are even more outrageous. For a 2 night stay in July its at least $2200. This doesn't even include the extra $25 they charge you per night to keep your car in the garage. WHAT??? I have to pay for parking on top of it? This doesn't include any continental breakfast or anything extra. I must say the staff were all friendly and the shuttle service to the shops and restaurants was convenient, but again NOT worth the money. When we brought up our frustrations the girl at the desk didn't seem surprised. I'm by no means cheap. I work hard for my money and I expected a lot more Unfortunately Gurney's you're a big disappointment!
Marci R.
Friendly staff, food is outstanding, the room was spacious and comfortable. I'll be back in the summer. Right on the water with a great view.

Huge disappointment. We took the family on the suggestion of a friend who had been to the Montauk location. To start, we are hotel snobs, so we are always looking at the small details of a stay, but unfortunately this place didn’t meet the bare minimum requirements of even a two star motel. We reserved the largest suite available, which was around 1300 square feet, two floors, and bizarrely one bedroom. To start the room was dirty. The carpet needed vacuuming, the bathroom sinks didn’t feel clean, there were spots on the glasses, etc. We explored the room, and upon testing one of the bathrooms quickly found ourselves locked inside. Upon inspection, the bathroom door was off its glider and it caused the door to lock closed accidentally, but not via a locking mechanism, via the gliding pin itself lodging up against the door, so you are literally trapped. We realized that if you push the door outward it will disengage from the pin and you can escape, but needless to say... broken door which is really a huge hazard. We opened a shower curtain to reveal some type of dust material that had fallen into the tub. It was absolutely disgusting. To the point that we chose not to bathe in the room. It appeared to have come from the vent above the shower, but all we could think about was funk and dust falling on us while showering, so... no thanks. A quick walk through the room reveals a lot of questionable maintenance. The walls are patchely painted, looking absolutely awful, throughout the entire room. The carpet lips where they meet tile or wood are poorly executed and potentially dangerous. The furniture is cheap looking, uncomfortable. The decor is banal and bland. The windows are non-functional, which for a hotel by the water is just such an awful waste of potential. The heating system had two thermostats in each room, it took us a bit but we realized one didn’t function and the other did. Not sure why they didn’t remove the older ones. After the brief and disappointing self-guided tour we decided it best to crack a bottle of wine to drown our sorrows, so we searched for the bottle opener - no where to be found. Luckily I had one in my bag, so I popped the bottle and looked for the glassware - no where to be found. So I call for wine glasses and up they come, fine, thank you. I’m drinking my wine and have to take a brief conference call - in which I need to jot down some notes. No pen. No pad. Anywhere. We decide to head down to the tavern style restaurant. I ordered a dozen oysters and shrimp. I should have taken the waitress’ advice - she didn’t offer a positive review on either. What we got were a dozen warm oysters and what tasted like previously frozen shrimp, which were tiny and flavorless. We went for dinner in Newport, and returned to settle the kids in for a movie. We pulled the couch out to reveal no sheets. A shabby, terrifically uncomfortable mattress, and a shabby piece of felt to cover. We called for bedding. None came. We called again. None came. We called again. We received bedding. We asked about the extra bedding in the suite - surely a 1300 sq foot suite would provide extra pillows and blankets for the guests we were planning on having... she pointed to the closet and walked out the door. I had to chase her down the hall to tell her that in fact there were no pillows and no extra sheets or blankets in the closet. She seemed confused, came back and investigated for herself and eventually went to get more bedding. We went down to the lobby to fetch some ibuprofen, which they didn’t have, and noticed a large, fresh, coffee spill in the elevator. It was still there when we checked out 16 hours later. I filled out a review from the company. They contacted me and asked that I discuss it with them, a Ms. Black. I responded to the email that I was available to talk. I called them three times. All I ever got was a voicemail box. No response to the email. Do not recommend.

Beautiful resort with lots of wonderful views of Newport

We had a very enjoyable stay this weekend, would have liked to have stayed longer. Although it may not look too attractive from the outside, the exterior is somewhat dated and has the look of a 'sand and gravel' operation, the inside has been artfully renovated with a beautiful nautical motif complementing the location on Goat Island surrounded on all sides by water and yachts. They were doing renovations on the property while we were there, but our room was unaffected, and the common areas had already been completed. Didn't make it to the restaurant, but managed to hit the wonderful bar twice, and chat with the friendly bartenders, there's a good selection of local brews plus a creative craft cocktail menu. We had reserved a bi-level suite, and our room was just enormous, with a full balcony and two full baths. Highly Recommended.

Ugh, where to start... paid for an ocean view king room, the windows were dirty with bird poo and fogged between the panes, meaning we couldn't see the view we paid for. We ate dinner at the restaurant which was meh, I ordered the Alaskan halibut and was treated to a piece of fish that was obviously left in the pan on one side too long, on top it had a hard inedible crust, on the bottom it had no signs of cooking, however the fish was fully cooked to the point of being dry, halibut is a fairly moist fish and should be glistening, this may as well have been a piece of any old white fish the way it was prepared. My wife had the lobster pasta which had maybe 5 small pieces of lobster for 30 something dollars! The waiter did not check on us for a long time and by the time he did we were mostly done, I mentioned the fish was overcooked and pointed to the inedible crust and they made up for it by giving us an extra desert for free, even though we had ordered a different dessert. So there we were with two desserts, one ordered and charged for and one we didn't want that they gave us for free... why not comp the desert we wanted and ordered?!?

Gurney's Resort and Marina was such a lovely hotel. Our accommodations were perfect. 2 bathrooms, 2 beds and a pull out couch. The room was spotless and had everything a person could ask for in a hotel.

Spa a little underwhelming although clean and new. Staff very nice. Not the Montauk experience.

I went to Gurney's Newport Resort & Marina for a wedding and it was truly astounding. The sunset, the space, the service. It was a really special night that was perfectly coordinated. The staff was excellent, the food was superb, and my valet experience was fantastic. If youths on the fence about an event here, just do it. You won't be disappointed.

Great atmosphere and all around amazing restaurant!

Our visit was wonderful. Beautifully maintained resort inside and out with amazing views. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate all of our needs.

Great location/atmosphere... Stopped in to see the Ravers and support them. The prices of drinks way too high. I ordered corona light , served in a can...at $9.00 a can!!!! Another person got a frozen drink at $14.00. I/we will not be back. Fair prices would bring more people back more often especially locals, over price will not bring in return customers.

Extremely overpriced. With taxes I paid 660 per night.. plus 36 dollars to valet park, however you can come and go... unfortunately, the first night someone smashed my car or keyed it..I have no clue as to why... they do give you the option of paying for the valet using your credit card while you're still in your room or elsewhere...which I did, however, I planned to give a cash tip and not include it on the card so perhaps that was the reason? Maybe the guy bringing the car thought I had stiffed him??When I went down to get the car, it had damage..I'll never know...I said something to management but I didn't expect anything to happen and nothing did... Second night I parked in the self park for 20 but you have to pay every time you leave and return... Saturday morning I discovered what appeared to be bed bug bites on my arm! Extremely itchy.. Never again. I stayed in room 505! Beware or better yet, save your money and go somewhere closer to town...

Here for jazz fest...8/2017 Rooms: 2 full sized beds....Very small.... Hotel: Dated...Needs work...ceiling panels in halls a mess/stained and cracking ,peeling near air vents.. Restrooms: In need of updating..Small bugs walking on floor/everywhere Patio and grounds: Lovely, great place for function but that's it. Outside bar/seating: Nice, but took manager 1/2 hour to get back to us, as there was no bartender, no menus or waiters. Food: Good Inside bar: crowded but drinks and waitstaff good. Not all it's cracked up to be....Would attend function or 'pop' over for a drink..That's it.. Do NOT even think about taking your car..NO parking whatsoever. Uber, cab, or shuttle.. The people outside make you 'hop' out of your vehicle, to keep cars moving..Crazy..

Thus hotel looked beautiful BUT. It's not good at all for family vacation. We brought here (we are still here as I write this) our 2 children for a fun 5 day vacation. Not only their vacation was ruined but the management didn't even care to fix it after I complained . Sunday we went to use the outdoor pool- hot 85 degree day . We were told there was a waiting list to get in the pool and have chairs. (Never in all my vacations have heard such a thing) We had our kids waiting outside the pool watching other kids playing for over an hour. Even after I complained nobody cared. When FINALLY we got to go inside to use the pool we saw other people asking us why we were outside that long. Other guests walked in no prob ... apparently we could have gone in to use the pool just the chairs was the issue BUT. Due to their stuff not speaking good English we were not told that! We didn't care to wait for chairs there were spots to sit with a towel. Our kids had the THE WORST. Day EVER... more things happened but minor. I DO NOT RECOMMEND This hotel at all. Also drunk adults playing at the pool not caring for younger kids or other adults being around them . HORRIBLE MANAGMENT OF THE FACILITY!!!!!if I could give 0 stars I would have. ???????? Ps they do have great ice capuchinno I ll give them only that!!!!!!!!!!!

Not too shabby

There for a wedding as a guest, appetizers we're great, drinks were generous, food was top notch. Building looks a little dated save for the sweet back patio and pool. Little pricey if I was going to head back for dinner or drinks with friends again
Brendan G.
Fantastic place, great food.
Jeff M.
I didn't stay there but met some friends. The pool/deck area was well done.

Great spot for a wedding. Outdoor bar still has terrible service though

Nice remodel still in progress. Staff very pleasant. Drinks overpriced and a turn off. I fear this place will not ever be over crowded or fun due to inflated pricing. This isn't Miami folks.

Outrageously expensive and very much so not worth it. Still under construction and kinks still need to be worked out.

Great views of an amazing sunset. The front desk and concierge were beyond helpful in getting it checked in and giving recommendations for things to do in the area. The view from our room was AMAZING!

We had lunch at the Pineapple when visiting Newport. Cute location & great views. The food was ok - my partner got the Cobb salad which was overly drenched.

Modern decor, elegant

Construction was not finished despite assurances that it would be. There was only one waitress to serve the pool area each day.

Ate at Pineapples on July 4th. Took a bit to get seated but once we did service was speedy. Lobster roll was yummy. Sunset views were amazing. Bonus was being able to see the fireworks as well.

Food was okay, but service was slow and slightly unresponsive even at a non busy hour. Also the bathrooms and restaurant could have been MUCH cleaner.

Very nice

Best Newport sunset yet!
Mary L.
Really loved our stay, staff were excellent and the rooms were comfortable and well decorated. Unfortunately they were in the middle of some construction that needed to be finished prior to July 4th, which was taking place at night and keeps me from giving 5 stars. I have high confidence that next summer Gurney's will be worthy of 5 stars.

I attended a professional event at Gurney's and although it was rainy and the hotel is still under construction, the service and accommodations were top notch. Looking forward to visiting when the renovations are done and the weather is nicer.

This place is a joke. We booked the room a year in advance and they are under construction, poorly staffed and has a slew of issues. When we first got to the hotel, the lobby was under construction, they said our room was not available and that we would be in the queue and would give us no time line of when we could check in. We drove in from several hours away, after working a half day and with little sleep the night before. All we wanted was to take a nap for an hour before our function began. Apparently they allow pets up to 50 lbs on the premises. This might sound like a good idea for many vacationers, but we were placed in a room next to someone who left their tiny dog unattended. The sound of the water in the facuet or a toilet flush would cause the dog to start yapping away. Whenever someone walked in the hallway or ring the elevator door (of the ones that were actually working), the dog would start barking away like crazy. Went down to the front desk and the staffer tried to call the room, but that only made the dog bark even worse. All we wanted was to take a nap before our evening function. After a complaint at the front desk they they offered us a drink from the bar but that was it. When we got back the dog was barking again. No owner was with the dog. After numerous complaints to the front desk and demanding a new room, they insisted that there were no rooms available. Finally only after threatening to file a bad review and threatening to switch hotels, did they miraculously manage to locate a new room. They sent a bell boy to assist moving our stuff and even the bell boy was shocked to hear the dog barking down the hallway before even getting to the room. The new room we were given was 40% smaller, and was significantly further away from an elevator. The front desk sent a bottle of cheap champagne when we asked for compensation for our inconvenience. We were also promised snacks but they were never delivered. After making our 5th trip to the front desk, the manager was no where to be found so Larry agreed to give us a round of drinks from the bar. After heading back to the new room we could hear the dj blasting his music all the way from the lobby bar to late in the night(at least 2am). In the early morning (830am) house keeping walkie talkies could be heard right outside our door and continued to disrupt sleep well past 1030 in the morning. We would have been better off staying at a local motel than this place they call a resort. Oh and apparently they include a 30$ mandatory "resort fee" per night that covers "amenities" like high speed internet, self parking, two bottles of tap water, and newspapers at the front desk. These should be standard included amenities. They should be ashamed to call themselves a resort.
Scott T.
Our room wasn't ready for check in until 5:30pm. Then when we did finally get our room I asked for wine glasses and extra pillows at check in. Neither were delivered. I called after waiting an hour and asked again and still they were not delivered. On the 3rd attempt about 4 hours later we finally received them. This is by far the worst experience I've ever encountered while dealing with a hotel staff.

Finally a 5 star resort in Newport! Just stayed here with my family and had an amazing time. The place is still under renovations but you can already see how amazing it is going to be. Service was excellent, the bar has amazing negronis. Did spin in the morning which was one of the best classes I ever did. Couples massage was lovely and refreshing. we enjoyed the reggae band and the kids loved the pool. We recommend this place to anyone looking for a high end family or romantic experience in Newport

Horrible weekend. When a hotel is under construction, they will typically give some sort of heads-up... not here. We arrived at 1:20am after a very long drive to find a hotel literally surrounded in scaffolding with absolutely no signage whatsoever. The hotel garage was filled floor to ceiling with drywall and other construction materials, so we had to park about a block away. When we go to the lobby, we found construction workers laying carpet in the hallways. The next morning, at 8:30am on the nose we awoke to the sound of hammering and electrical sawing in the room directly above us. It was not 10 or 15 minutes worth - it litterally went on all day. We asked the front desk if this was going to go on all weekend and they said "no, you shouldn't hear anything over the weekend". We awoke to the same sounds the next morning AND the 3rd day as well. We would have changed hotels, but there were multiple events going on and everything was booked. I could write another 10 pages on my horrible experience at this place, room service never answers the phone, scaffolding in front if every window, construction workers standing on the 6th floor scaffolding and looking in your windows, front desk lies to you, valets who will help you with your car but not your baggage, resort fees for a resort that has ZERO amenities, elevators that don't work - I could go on... I will leave you with this - this is the first time I have EVER checked out of a hotel and was not asked "how was your stay" - because that would not been wise to ask anyone who spent the weekend there. When I complained, I was told to let them know the next time I am in town so they can put me in an upgraded room. Suffice to say, I will never be staying at that hotel again. Beware.

A friend had given me a Spa Wellness card for my birthday in March. When researching local spas that would accept this card, I found out that Spa Week was approaching, so I called to book at the Hyatt. I got the very last available Mandarin Smoothie Wrap (normally $130, but $50 during Spa Week), which they say always books up quickly. They did tell me during the call that a 17% gratuity would be added (for the $130, not the $50) and that a $4 facility fee would be tacked on. I appreciate that they told me this upfront. The only thing I wish they had clued me in on was parking, which would\'ve made the process just a little smoother. I have no previous experience with wraps, so I wasn\'t sure what to expect. Arlene was the technician and she was wonderful....talks as much as you want her to engage, but is quiet when you are quiet. It was a really rainy morning, so I didn\'t have the view out of the window, but really a perfect day to spend indoors and get pampered. Since they did charge a $4 facilities charge, I took advantage and worked out in their fitness center afterwards. Nice equipment and I had the place to myself which was great! If I had more time, I would\'ve jumped in the indoor pool next and then maybe gotten some lunch, but that wasn\'t the case. Arlene did mention that Mon-Thurs the spa gives a 20% discount on all there services, so something to consider when booking. Everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful, the facilities were clean, and the ambiance was great! I would highly recommend!
