It is so hard to find this hotel, seriously. But the front desk employee Holmand (gosh I hope I spelt his name right) was so curtious and helpful. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. We will be returning!!! Thank you Holmand!
It was very nice. No mini fridge in the room, though, which seems like that's a standard thing for rooms to have. Parking was a night mare

Upgraded and love the outdoor decks
We enjoyed a relaxing weekend at the Lorien Hotel. The room was nice and quiet. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel staff was really accommodating both Wendell and Syneese were great. We also took advantage of the spa, and the tasting room. We love the mussels. Another great stay at the Lorien.
I would not recommend this hotel, even though I was so excited to stay there. The walls are insanely thin. (I’ve read other reviews who also had this complaint). I stayed 3 nights. The first night I could hear my neighbors tv and every single door down the hallway open and close. The second night I requested ear plugs. The beds have very little bedding. A sheet and a super thin cover. If you like any kind of weight on you while you sleep, you won’t enjoy sleeping here. The heating element in the room sounds like a jet plane and the thermostat has a bright blue light that lights up the room like a night light. (I covered with with a washcloth which helped a little). Heads up if you’re traveling with someone; the bathroom door slides like a barn door so it doesn’t lock. And it doesn’t completely shut so when you shower the steam escapes. :( On one hand I appreciated that the shower bottles were large community bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Better for the environment! But on the other hand I was kind of grossed out knowing I was sharing this with every other guest and also concerned that some one could have tampered with it. Front desk staff is okay... I ate at the attached restaurant (I’m vegan). They were so accommodating and made me a beautiful, well thought out meal. Thank you! On a very cute street with restaurants and shopping which was a plus. I did not use the spa.
I would go here again and again
Friendly staff, nice property, excellent restaurants!
Good service great staff
Awesome hotel!! Loved it

Lovely experience. We keep coming back!
Ok nice rooms
Stains on the sheets and carpet. No coffee or tea in the room. No weight limits on pets, hence you’ll encounter many huge dogs in the hallway and elevator.
This is a beautiful quaint hotel. Very homey, spa was A+. This will be my go to hotel from now on
It was nice and in a cute walkable area. Coffee and tea were free every morning in the lobby.
Only stayed for one night and it was super cute. We had a view of the street and its cute shops. Modern look and the beds were firm, which I personally prefer. The only complaint I have is we could hear our neighbors ENTIRE conversation and they weren't necessarily being loud. Just super thin walls. Luckily we were super tired from walking DC all day and fell asleep easily.
This is NOT a 4 star hotel! Wanted to love it, but! Ice machine on our floor was not working...front desk said they would deliver...after waiting 15 minutes, I finally went down to see when/if anyone was delivering....it seems they had forgotten. Water pressure in bathroom sink was horrible and water was cold or scalding hot! Husband had to take a short cold shower. Front desk couldn’t answer simple questions about grab and go breakfast which was displayed with morning coffee in the lobby. The only two valet carts were missing when we along with several others were trying to check out and leave the property. So disappointed:(
Not bad, but certainly way bellow what I expected from a kimpton hotel.
I originally booked to have a spa date with friends while visiting family. When my plans had to change due to a medical emergency in my family I was told I could not have a refund. So I changed my plans again and after traveling all day I had problems finding the hotel in the dark and rain, I had a less than mediocre stay.I used to have great experiences at Kimpton but I’ll stick with @Hilton from now on. I do not recommend this property.
I truly hope that the front desk customer representative, Day, gets FULL recognition and honor for her exceptional customer service during my stay! She is phenomenal and such a pleasure to be around. I only stayed for one night but she made sure to make me feel as though I was so important and as if I was staying for longer than one night. First, she was able to respond to my request to relocate to a King sized room as the one I was booked in was for two beds (I always feel a little uncomfortable staying alone with one other bed next time lol). I was placed in the most spectacular terrace room I have ever been in. The rooms are filled with decor that is so marvelous and appealing. The tub was the best part! I was in complete awe for the entire night. I wish I could have stayed for longer. I will most definitely be booking my next vacation at this location. 10/10 in my book. I think I have found my new permanent hotel for booking! Must stay here!
First of all the staff wonderful. But the room that I paid $400 for was not that great. One it was just okay. When I tell you that you got nothing I ain't kidding. in the bathroom you didn't even get individual little bottles of shampoo, conditioner etc. They had big bottles with a pump I don't want to use a communal bottle of shampoo or anything else. No bottles of water unless you wanted to pay big bucks for it. A box of M&Ms $8. Are you kidding me. The room that the bed was in was so tight you could barely squeeze next to it on one side.. it was supposed to be a king bed. But I wish I had a measuring tape. No way. It seems a few inches short. In my opinion. I guess it's okay for someone with an expense account. But for regular people like my husband and myself just trying to have a nice evening. Never again

Service isn't worth the price
I have stayed at most of the current and former Kimptons in the DC area (RIP Mason and Rook, and Donovan), and the Lorien might be my favorite. The staff is very helpful, the rooms are well decorated and spacious, and the attached restaurants are excellent. Looking forward to my next stay.
Thank you for making our event special.
Service was good but the room was a little small, parking is difficult but is within walking distance to the metro.
Visited for a social event, service was great and the food was delicious.
Very nice rooms and the restaurant is fabulous.
Staff were all superb and the property was stylish and perfectly located. The restaurant was fantastic and the wait staff and bartender were witty and fun
Hotel was in need of renovations when we visited. We had to request another room which was accommodated but was just okay. Location was excellent. Pizza and wine time is nice. The hotel gave us a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries which were great and a nice touch after a disastrous arrival.
I had a lovely spa day. The people here are very nice and professional, I was very comfortable! My skin is like butter now, and the massage was wonderful.
This review is for the spa only! The rest of the hotel is super nice and moderne but there is a reason they do not show too many pictures of the spa! I worked their last year New Year’s Eve! Broken equipment, clients requesting illegal services! Horrible experience! I was contacted through Zeel, and they fired me because of this Spa! That spa has great potential to be great but guess what another owner who does not care about therapist. They claimed I was late well that’s what happens when you have broken equipment throughout the spa and add a client as soon as the therapist steps on the property. Thanks for getting me fired Kimpton!!!!!!!
Excellent hotel, cozy, quiet, clean, great service, and perfectly located.
Upscale hotel with a wonderful spa and fine dining restaurant. A great place for a retreat into luxury and pampering.
A very sheek and modern interior. The Layout is refreshingly edgy but comfortable enough to ease the mind. The bathroom is the epitome of what all bathrooms should be. Completely open and includes both a separate bath and shower. Lovely staff, they were very helpful. All accommodations were pleasantly met with humility and professionalism. Thank you very much for the experience!
Great rooms with modern appeal. I especially loved the courtyard with the convenience of the restaurant offering comfortable seating in the shade.
Giant Schnauzer approved! This hotel is clean and has first class comfort and amenities for humans and their dogs.
Private party food was a real disappointment
We ate at Brabos for our anniversary before moving to Massachusetts. The food was excellent as always.

Everyone was kind and my room was great!

Great hotel with delicious restaurant!
Love this place! Not only is it gorgeous and centrally located, but the staff was also great. There's a free coffee bar in the morning and free wine bar in the evening, complete with flat bread. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely be staying here again!
Very clean, quiet, cozy, everything works.
Nice place, BUT... Had to change rooms due to first room assignment was unclean. Dirty sock left on floor from previous guest; also a used soiled bandage laying next to the bed...
Great hotel at the end of Old Town, well within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Always love that Kimpton hotels are pet friendly. The only detractor is that the walls are a bit thin- stayed in an adjoining room and was woken up by a baby crying. As a parent, I'm understanding of the situation but hotel could maybe do something about where they put people or sound proof the adjoining doors a little better (we could hear just about everything going on in the other room). Bathroom was updated and lovely, bedroom was pretty, hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended.
Awesome bellman. Jose is the best!!
Great accommodations, looking forward to next visit.
Rooms are updated and very comfortable. Service is impeccable! They make your stay as easy as possible.
Great service at hotel, clean rooms, quite
Great location, central to downtown restaurants and activities. A nicely appointed boutique style hotel with clean rooms and amenities and courteous helpful staff. The two restaurants associated with the hotel are also very good.
Pictures make this hotel appear beautiful and relaxing. While it is a nice place in a great location with elegant decor. It however is not a spa hotel. Beds are not very comfortable and they allow pets. The pet owners on our floor were by the elevator and our room was way around the corner and all I heard was loud barking dogs. After I called the front desk they did contact the owners and dogs settled down for a while. They have aromatherapy scents throughout the hotel but still does not cover up the animal smell. Downstairs bar was great and staff was friendly. Close to restaurants
Such a good hotel in Alexandria. We will always stay here! Such a cute look, such a good location and so dog friendly!!
Great place, very friendly staff & super accommodating. We went for our anniversary & they left us a little gift with a card in our room upon arrival.
Quiet, understated elegance with FedRooms rates. You can't go wrong
Great hotel..clean neat..staff overly courteous;restaurant was comfortable and food delicious;next time in Alexandria, that will be the place to make a reservation to stay!
This is a review for the spa ONLY. I want to start out by saying that I am a regular spa goer and I get massages monthly. I also want to note that the massage therapist and the woman who did my foot massage were both very nice. Now, for this one star rating.... In the area of the spa where there is supposed to be quiet time and serenity, people (staff) were walking through. I’m assuming there wasn’t a staff entrance. It’s quite distracting to be honest. The receptionist even had on heels of some sort so that she click clacked across the tile. I went back for my foot scrub. The room was utterly cold and I was informed that the temperature could not be adjusted, but that the bed heater was on. I could not feel it, but that may be because I was instructed to lay ON TOP of the blankets and then she laid a old (and I do mean OLD) blanket over top of me. The therapist started with a scrub on the feet and a lack luster rubbing of my feet. Then came the warm wet towel on my right foot while she used the scrub on my left. In the meantime, the towel on my right foot became cold. Then, she finished with my right foot and out the warm wet towel on my left foot. That also began to chill and then the towels were pressed into my feet. It felt like having wet sneakers on and walking through a puddle. Yet I kept hoping it would get better. Next cane the warm towel to dry my feet. That was great! It didn’t last very long, but nice gesture after the cold wet towels in the cold room. Then came the lotion on my feet. More rubbing, not a massage. Unfortunately, the same gloves that were used to apply the scrub were used to apply the lotion, so I left feeling like I’d been walking through sand. I should also mention that the light in the room was a stark white lamp; not quite the right mood for such a treatment in my opinion. Next came the massage, which I’d requested to be deep tissue. The massage therapist was very nice; however, the massage consisted of knuckles going up and down my back and her elbow in my back along with her forearms up and down my back. She did take time to try and work out some of the knots, but the majority were these aforementioned things. This went on for about 10min before I timed out. No technique. I go into the locker room to change and there are the two employees (spa director/manager and the receptionist) and a MAN there meeting about spa renovations. Why they would conduct a meeting while female clients are there knowing they needed to be in the changing area is beyond me. It’s not like it was busy. I paid for the services for my sister (it’s our bday) and I paid for the foot scrub. I told the receptionist of my experience and she said “it’s obviously not a service people complain about.” Now while she was very nice, this obviously isn’t the thing you say to a paying customer. Furthermore, she’d never had the foot scrub before, so in my opinion she didn’t need to have an opinion on the situation. Only empathy. So, I spoke to the manager who, while apologetic, goes on to say “like anything people have good days and bad days.” I can’t make this up. She went on to say the scrub is a foot treatment, not a massage. This is helpful to know; unfortunately her staff is unaware, because I specifically asked if this incorporated a massage on TWO occasions (when booking and at booking confirmation). I told her that the staff is giving out misinformation then. The manager offered me her card to contact her further, but she can catch this review instead. She also offered me to come back, but I see no reason to if this is their standard. Luxury day spa it is NOT. I don’t usually write reviews unless I feel like others need to be aware of what they are getting into, so that they can make the choice that’s best for them.
Great hotel for the price
Quaint hotel with a friendly staff! Right in the heart of old town Alexandria.
Great hotel. Comfy beds. Rooms are nicely sized. They have free wine for happy hour
Clean, pet friendly
Very nice, great comfort, great services
Cute outside, friendly staff. Room was good, bit not Kimpton great. Gym OK, minimalist, plus side it is open 24 hrs. Wonderful location - walk to water, metro into DC, trolly up and down King St.
Now this place was a treat. Super awesome staff and helpful everywhere. All the mod cons and services. Definitely staying here again even if it is just to stay for a spa treatment.
Beautiful boutique hotel in downtown historic Alexandria ! Pet friendly, free bike rentals, beautiful comfy rooms!!!
I'm quite disappointed. I just called to inquire about a room booking for April and was so frustrated at the lack of common sense. On the IHG website, there was a special Breakfast Rate for the dates I was looking to stay, at a decent nightly average. However, when I went to book, the first few nights were very expensive and the others much less expensive, which was not going to be acceptable for reimbursement purposes (government travel). There was a nightly government rate that was MORE expensive, but every night was priced the same and at the threshold of my reimbursbale rate, but without breakfast. I called the reservations line to ask if I could pay the government rate, but still get the breakfast vouchers or get the breakfast rate, but have the nigtly costs averaged out during billing. They said for such requests, I would have to call the hotel directly. I did so and spoke with a female representative who relayed my inquiry to the manager. She was friendly, but the reply I received was a bit perplexing. She said that the manager had said they could not mix and match deals because breakfast was quite expensive and I couldn't take advantage of two deals. I asked her if either of them realized that the government price was actually HIGHER than the breakfast deal, (reiterating the costs)? She sounded very uncertain when she said, "Yeah, I think so...", kind of contradicting what she had just said about how expensive breakfast was. She didn't offer to confirm with the manager and I asked if she couldn't check the pricing of the room to ascertain the truth of what I was saying. She said they had no way to check how much the rooms cost because only reservations personnel had access to pricing. Um, I'm not with reservations, yet I still know the pricing because anyone can go online and check... It was doubly frustrating because I happen to know for a fact they can price match! I had been booked with another Kimpton hotel in DC that did just that when I called them. The hotel manager was super nice and knowledgeable and understood that I wasn't trying to get a special discount and was fully willing to pay the same total amount, I just needed to reconcile the nightly averages for reimbursement purposes. I was looking forward to that stay, until the dates and location of my business meeting changed. Because I had such a positive encounter there, I thought to look for another Kimpton hotel closer to my new location. Now I am turned off and will be looking elsewhere.
Very clean. Quiet except for the AC. The 5 o'clock wine tasting was popular, and the red wine was very good for such a event.
Large room with beautiful view of courtyard. Valet and bag check staff were quick and attentive. Friendly staff all around.
Very pleasant staff rooms are nice and its surrounded by all types of shopping
I stayed there during a work conference and I had a good time. I would love to go back for a personal trip. The people are nice and the food is amazing.
I have never stayed at this hotel before, but I did got to the spa. Their service is subpar and their estheticians are very awkward and socially inept. They don't really seem to have a full grip on what they're doing. The eyebrow wax was okay, but most spas I've been to rub a lotion or oil on afterwards, which she didn't do. She had no idea what her wax was made of, she actually ended up peeling some skin off because she didn't powder the skin ahead of time. It was just a really strange experience. The spa itself is very small, I wouldn't go here again. Weird place.
The three stars is for the appearance of being clean. But this is NOT a luxury hotel nor is their service. I booked a two night stay to survey my experience for an upcoming event I was planning with friends. The woman at the front desk was very curt. I had to ask for the WiFi code and she acted like she was stressed just providing me directions to the elevator (which was around the corner from the front desk). My room smelled stale; the bed pillow case and wash cloth were tattered and my bed was just not comfortable. It’s 5:00 am- I am still sleepy, but typing this review because I have been tossing, turning and scratching all night in this bed. This is a not luxurious experience. I am going to checkout a day early and will not be returning. I don’t want a generic response from hotel management about my negative experience either. This review is not for them- it’s for the unsuspecting consumer that may be drawn in by the false descriptions of luxury this hotel promises.
Simple luxury. All the comforts you expect without the fuss.
My favorite hotel in the DC metro area.
Great staff and hotel!
Our first night we had issues with a broken air conditioning unit so the room was uncomfortably warm (76-77). They were apparently unable to fix it that night but they replaced the unit by 12pm the next day. Management apologized and gave us a few extras from room service which was very nice. One thing I didn't like: the coffee situation. I know there are coffee shops nearby but most of the time I just want to get a cup of unfancy coffee. They have complimentary coffee in the morning which wasn't very good. I ordered coffee from room service in the morning which tasted way better. But obviously, it costs a lot more. In the evening I asked for more coffee and they were nice enough to bring a small Keurig. I know they need to make money, but would it really be that costly to offer complementary coffee through out the day or let you know that they can give you a Keurig by request? The room was nice and clean. The bed was ok, but again, still clean. The hotel is right down the street from a ton of boutique shops as well. Good food options right near by as well.
Fantastic rooms and
Wonderful staff. Love the ???? and snacks for guests from 5 to 6. Great place to host a meeting.
Nice rooms and helpful front desk. Right off the metro and near all the king street places.
Nice hotel, but our room was poorly designed. A large entrance hall and a small room with no window (except a tiny side window overlooking a terrace from the room next door.
Beautiful hotel in a wonderful locale. The staff was very professional, polite and attentive. I would definitely stay again.
It tries to be...what it is ... second level.
Nice hotel, great staff, good restaurants
(Translated by Google) The hotel was a boutique hotel and the staff were very helpful. (Original) ???????????????????????????????
Beautiful hotel in a great location...always smells like a spa when you walk into the lobby.
This place is amazing. It's cozy, stellar service, and the restaurant food is absolutely beautiful -comparable to a few New York Michelin star restaurants. I didn't have the time to use the facilities like the gym and sauna/spa but it looked very modern. Guests coming out of it also looked very satisfied. What amazed me was how I found a cheaper rate online and asked them if they can match the $10 discount at the front desk. To my surprise they did! The bathrooms are ultra modern and the room lighting is beautiful. Staff was also very pleasant and even held my luggage for me after my stay (while I awaited my train later in the night). A few blocks down is the prime area of old Town so definitely check that out. My advice if you plan to stay here: ice machines are located only on floors 3&5. Try to get those floors if you can. Note: they have wine reception 6-7pm. If you miss it within reasonable time, ask the reception for a complimentary glass at the bar. Kimpton really won my heart tonight!! Shoutouts to the morning reception team!
Updated modern interiors. Great service. Spa is amazing
Had a great stay at the Lorien for New Year's eve. They even provided complimentary champagne and treats for the night. One complaint is that the spa area in the steam room was not very clean and the tile/grout on the floor and walls could use a deep cleaning. As far as the room was concerned everything was clean and tidy. One of my favorite places to stay in Old Town.
Amazing place, amazing rooms, super friendly staff. Always stay here when visiting the area.
Girlfriend's wallet stolen from hotel bar under mysterious circumstances. A hotel of this supposed calibre in an environment like Alexandria? That seems like a long shot to be a random act of someone off the street. We strongly suspect an inside job. I do not even feel safe here on our last night. Oh I forgot to mention it was her birthday. If you care about your wallet and personal safety this is not the hotel for you.
Stayed in the suite. Unusually comfortable mattress and bedding. Spacious, well appointed room with great balcony space. Noon check out allows for worry-free breakfast dining and nearby cafes, which are wonderful. Love all the classy dogs. A thoroughly uptown experience.
Nice hotel, professional staff, good restaurants, terrible sound proofing of guest room.
Fantastic location with decent sized rooms and phenomenal customer service.
This was a really nice hotel that has a great pet policy- if it fits thru the door it us welcome to stay! The staff was very welcoming and the dogs can even join you for yappy hour.
Great hotel. Love the service and spa.
Nice hotel with excellent meeting room. Good food. Only negative: It is difficult to find on King St., because the street numbering is too small, and the hotel is set back from street side.
Wonderful Kimpton experience for us and our four legged friends. Special pat on the back to Housekeeping on the third floor - super job.
We attended a small wedding reception here. The facility is beautiful and the service is wonderful. There was a small outdoor courtyard where the bride and groom had a couple of games set out and there was a large fire pit to keep warm when it got chilly during the evening. The food was excellent as well.
Staff is great. Room was mediocre. Room service was overpriced and sucked.
Brabo restaurant is excellent.
(Translated by Google) A very comfortable hotel with attractive rooms. Staff very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately without own parking. Cost of a parking ticket definitely too high. Metro is within walking distance. Spa and restaurant were not used. Concerning. Restaurants there are many very good options along the main road. (Original) Ein sehr komfortables Hotel mit ansprechenden Zimmern. Personal sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Leider ohne eigenen Parkplatz. Kosten für ein Parkticket definitiv zu hoch. Beautiful, clean room. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Conveniently located within walking distance of lots of shops and restaurants.
I just went to the spa and it was amazing!!
Nice clean friendly
Had a great stay here. We each got two glasses of wine upon arrival. We got two rooms so we were able to get an attached room which was super accommodating. Great service. Really enjoyed the restaurant inside of the hotel as well as the bar. The building itself is quite beautiful and very clean and well kept.
Great service here.
Bar and restaurant were great. Rooms were fine. Front desk and valet were not great.
Jaymz Hardy-Martin I.
Quiet clean quick internet friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room.
Wonderful. We have three dogs and they have no limit on pets. $$$
Nice upscale hotel. Good free happy hour in the evenings. AC was broke one day, but the prompt fixed it and gave us some wine and cheese as an apology. The two restaurants are both great.
Really nice boutique hotel. Check in was easy and the front desk was always well staffed. Rooms are comfortable and everything seemed new. Didn’t get to try the restaurant but it looked good and was busy Saturday night. The courtyard is also really pretty and a nice spot to hang out or grab a bite. Very dog friendly, valet only parking but it was quick and easy when they needed to bring the car around. Close to king metro but not far from shopping and places to eat/drink. Pretty good walk down to the waterfront but it’s doable. Would definitely stay again!
Beautifully designed and immaculate.
Great rooms, very clean be modern. Only complaint: Power outlets are supplied generously by both night tables but basically no place on the desk to plug in.

It's a great hotel.
Very classy and clean
Very helpful staff and nice function rooms
Enjoyed our stay, but MUST thank Employee "Ashley" for her listening to my needs at the hotel for a wedding & family gathering and providing me with a wonderful suite to entertain. Also "Jarime" (sic) at the front desk for his kind assistance. Mr Lecos
Very nice place!
I loved our room it was very clean. Reception area smelled a bit.
The dinner service was impeccable. I enjoyed my meal and drink, but other party members did not enjoy theirs as much.
Very nice and contemporary Hotel. Newly renovated and very clean. Friendly ataff
Highly recommended to stay here!
Excellent hotel with fun vibe in the district, and easy Metro link to explore DC. Highly recommended staying here.
I was there for a conference. My breakfast at the restaurant was pretty good. Very comfortable. Their courtyard is a nice place to enjoy weather and it has WiFi so I would work there and get some sun. Not much of a lobby though, so when it started raining it was hard to find a spot to work.
Beautiful hotel. Even better spa! My room, though incredibly stylish, was rather small, which surprised me as it was a king bed accommodating room. The bed wasn't as comfortable as I'd hoped, and the pillows werent great. But there was a well stocked mini-bar stocked. Very polite staff. I mainly stayed so I could spend time at the spa, which I should say again, is wonderful.
Beautiful hotel and good location, near the metro. A wedding at the venue resulted in significant noise from the courtyard until midnight, and hallway doors slammed and woke us up through the night. Not the end of the world, but a little frustrating
Great location, very comfortable and friendly staff
Beautiful hotel. Very clean and elegant. The Hotel's restaurant, the Brabo Tasting Room, had incredible food!
Beautiful hotel with a lot of great shops and restaurants near by
The Kimpton Lorien is a very modern and well decorated hotel. There is a nice courtyard entrance and this hotel is pet friendly. I heard great things about the restaurant, spa, and complimentary wine hour but didn't have a chance to partake as I was only there for one night. The king room (612) had the adjoining doors on either side (2 of them) which I am not a fan of when you are staying as a single room. The shower was large, clean and had the rain shower head. Overall a nice location and hotel. Ashley at the front desk is amazing and the valet parking is convenient and quick. The only downside to our stay was the noise of other guests. There was either a wedding party or girls night or something that was loud past midnight.
My first visit since their remodel. Our server, Cosmo, was fantastic, attentive and unobtrusive at the same time. The wine selection is comprehensive and our food was superb, with the appetizers and entres both exceeding expectations. A wonderful but somewhst expensive evening.
The bed was moderately comfortable, but when we got there the air conditioning was busted. Their obscenity laden repair man came and fixed it. Not worth the money. If I didnt have a free night I wouldn't have stayed there.
Outstanding staff & service in charming boutique hotel located in heart of Old Town. A family favorite.
Will be returning enjoyed myself
Excellent service at this boutique Alexandria hotel. Their willingness to exceed expectations reflects their business model to be the best in the neighborhood. I highly suggest a stay here.
Location couldn't have been better. The rooms are spacious and clean. Worked out at the gym and it has everything you would need for a standard workout. Recommended.
Part of a family throwing a birthday party there. Staff were very accommodating and helpful, going above and beyond to make sure we had things we needed. However, the food we were served was VERY bad. Most was cold and inadequately seasoned, with one dish being so unpalatable more than one guest referenced food more fit for pets. I've heard that the restaurant food is good, and if I return I'd have to try it.
Great hotel in a great location. Requested a Keurig for my room and received one immediately. Clean accommodations and newly renovated.
This was a very nice hotel the staff was Awsome
Beautiful property. Staff is very accommodating and friendly. Rooms are modern and well-appointed. Convenient restaurants on the property
Alexandria is just beautiful and this hotel fits in perfectly. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are well appointed and the hotel itself is beautifully decorated. Fair warning...the beds a very comfortable and hard to leave. The hotel is very well situated with easy access to metro, major thoroughfares are close by and old town is an easy stroll down King St.
Beautiful boutique hotel in Old Town very near the Metro and on the free trolley toute to the water front.
We came off of recommendations of others who have stayed, for the modern feeling rooms, and as a close inexpensive option as opposed to staying physically in DC to explore. Both of us, by the middle of our week long stay were in so much pain from the bed it wasn't funny. I can't tell you how rare that is. The only other negatives were the price of food from their restaurant and the horrid ability to get an order right via room service. I know you would say room service prices are just that way.. I checked. The food prices were the same eating downstairs except for the room service fee. I've eaten at some of the finest steak houses in NYC and paid those prices. This was not that in comparison imo. Other than that, the staff were extremely friendly. A great gem of hospitality. We also enjoyed their toiletries.. I don't often mention that aspect in my reviews! They also seemed to host a wonderful wedding reception there. In speaking with those guests attending it, they thoroughly enjoyed.
Nice, clean hotel. Good service.

My stay at the Kimpton was wonderful. The room was excellent, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the on site restaurant served delicious food. I would gladly stay here again.
Do NOT buy a gift card from this Spa!! I did and 3 hours after purchasing the card I still had not received the gift certificate. They said the system went down. I guess it went down right after they charged my bank account! I called several times to follow up and the answer was the system is down, I don't know when it will be back up. There was nothing else that could be done. SMH.
Horrible service by our rude and arrogant waiter. Food was fine, but overpriced and decidedly unoriginal.
A bit difficult to find, but nice rooms and staff.
Place was amazing
Great staff. Very comfortable hotel stay. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. The staff was courteous and attentive to my needs as a guest.
Lovely hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. We were very comfortable and felt welcome. Walking distance to may things including the metro. Would definitely stay here again.
Stayed 4 years ago and the service was so much more attentive. Seemed to have gone down hill a little more. Love Kimptons in general though.
Great place and price. Nice location.
Very nice hotel, staff was great!
Very nice clean place. Not the hotel chain look. Staff was very nice.
Wonderful quaint hotel nestled away near the Potomac

Very nice rooms

Nice and boutique, but the bed wasn't the most comfortable.
I stay at the Lorien at least once a year for business and often book a facial. I did so recently and was very disappointed. My aesthetician's phone went off 2x during my session, when I asked for a bolster for my knees she seemed annoyed, there were many times where she was not doing anything and my session was shorter than the duration I paid for. Usually when there is a mask on they will massage your arms and hands which she did not do. I think the most disappointing thing is there is an automatic 20% gratuity added for the service no matter how satisfied you are. I'd give the spa another chance in the future if there wasn't the mandatory 20% added gratuity. 2018 update: please be aware that the hotel hosts weddings and the music can be VERY loud - sounds like a night club in your room until quite late. So if you’d like a peaceful and relaxing environment this is not the place.
Pet friendly, great customer service, relaxing
This was my second visit. Plentiful street parking overnight (or $35 valet), dog friendly, and comfortable rooms.
Staff very nice and friendly. My room was great. My only complaint was that the food ok. Not bad, just ok. For the higher priced room I expected better.

Awesome people, especially valley guys are helpful.
This review is for the spa. I absolutely love going to the spa for facials and massages, and particularly needed a facial and tried the Lorien spa in old town. My experience was one of the worst I’ve had. I have visited this hotel prior and love it, but the spa clearly doesn’t have the same kind of quality. (Please see below my massage therapist was wonderful but the facial was the worst I’ve had) The Spa Itself: the bathrooms resemble a high school type of gym. They have all amenities (steam room, showers, etc) but they resemble a gym style tile with the bathrooms exactly resembling an airport bathroom. I was greeted at the front by a woman who was less than thrilled to be working there and didn’t really welcome me at all. Afterwards, she didn’t thank me or ask about my experience just stated “ok you are fine” insinuating I could go. The facial: Unfortunately this was the worst facial I’ve ever had. First, the spa is in the basement of the Lorien hotel and it’s freezing in April. I was shaking throughout my entire service. The lady I had did offer an extra blanket, but my body proceeded to shake throughout the service and she said nothing more. I found out later in my massage the tables in fact are heated and they even have heating pads of which she didn’t offer. I would estimate that out of 47 minutes my facial was approximately 20 minutes of that. The majority of the time the woman was preparing her creams etc. every bottle was almost empty and thus squirting ensued. Additionally, her phone alerted her of texts or emails throughout the service. I cannot confirm but I also believe at one point she was picking her nails (the sound was very distinct). Honestly, I could have given myself a better facial at home and was very disappointed for this price point. The massage: I had Twyla for my massage and she did an incredible job. She was very accommodating and a great therapist.
They have an lovely spa and excellent massage service. Also the Tasting room makes the best brisket I have ever tasted on their in house bread. The customer service is amazing.
Freshly renovated, small in room number. Looks to have a few growing pains but the location is great, it's clean and quiet with great staff. I enjoyed the afternoon wine and artisanal ????!
Great place to stay. Friendly atmosphere, well located for Old Town (either one, Alexandria or DC). Would stay there again on my next visit.
The hotel was gorgeous and comfortable. The staff were friendly but not overly accommodating. The manager was amazing, guy with black hair and black framed glasses. I had a few issues. The drive-up situation was unclear. No sign saying park/pull-up here. It just looked like you were guessing this was where you should park. The restaurant to get breakfast was delicious, but the walk there was annoying because of the rain. Had to get an umbrella out just to walk 50 feet or so get breakfast. Also wish there were more places to sit and study. The day I was there, there was some sort of conference happening in the study area and I couldn't find a place to set up my laptop to work (I don't really like being cooped up in the room all day). Otherwise, it really was a wonderful stay. I would definitely recommend it and stay again.
Nice low key hotel in a lovely part of town
Friendly staff and comfortable rooms. I'd stay again!
My wife and I stayed here a few years ago for our anniversary. It was the worst experience that we had ever had. At the time it was advertised as a botique hotel, and had this unique custom menu that offered everything from picnic baskets with blankets for picnic on the town, to telescopes. We had planned an extended weekend of fine dining, relaxing at the spa, and having a picnic while exploring the town. So we reserved the largest suite, with a roof top balcony, that they had. From the beginning everything went wrong. When we arrived, the valet wasn't there so we had to park on the street and search for someone to assist. Then we get to the front desk to get the key to our room. And head up, no one offerd to help with our bags. So we get up to our room and it wasn't what we reserved. We had reserved a 500+ Sq foot one bedroom suite with a large balcony that we were paying well over $600 a night for. Our room was a small studio without a balcony. So we go back down, and they told us that the suites were all reserved and sold out. Then we said we reserved a suite and they just responded sorry they are all being used for a wedding party. So we ask to speak to a manager and after about a half-hour we get the room that we reserved. That evening we had dinner at Bravo. The restaurant was great, the food was amazing and they had a wonderful wine selection. We spent about $1,200 at the restaurant. The next day, we had reserved some time at the spa. Outside of having to wait nearly an hour for our already reserved and paid for time at the spa, it was fine. Then we decide to go out on the town and ask the concierge if they could call a town car for us. They handed us a card and told us to call the number on it (what exactly is a consierge for again?). The following day, we decide to try out their botique menu and order the picnic basket from their menu. The staff says that that comes from another place on the corner and I would have to go there to order it. So I do. It wasn't a picnic basket, it was pre made food in plastic containers stuck in a cardboard container shaped like a picnic basket. No blanket for the picnic. And it broke while in the lobby on my way back to the room. Oh and just to make it even better, at this point I realized that one of the food containers (keep in mind that we paid about $50-60 for this basket) had the labels peeling. Underneath the label, was an older label saying that the food was best by the previous week. At this point, our anniversary had pretty much been ruined. I call the main corporate number, explain the situation to them and ask if they can move us into any other hotel. Of course either they can't or don't, and instead just pass the message to the hotel manager. Who we had already spoken to on 3 other occasions already. The manager was nice, apologized profusely, comped some of the food, and one night at the hotel. Either way though, it was the most horrible experience I have ever had at a hotel. I will never stay at a Kimpton hotel again.
When in Alexandria, stay here! Friendly staff, good restaurants in the hotel and nearby, and a nice gym!
Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Free drinks for happy hour.
Cool place but mini bar is hella expensive. 12 dollars for a half a pint of grey goose where where??
Cramped...nice, no parking...but cramped
One of the most beautiful hotels I've stayed in. It might sound weird but they have the softest carpeting in the hallways. Its like walking on a cloud. The King Deluxe room we stayes in was on the small side. Parking is horrible. The ajoined restaurant is fantastic. Staff is not that knowledgeable and I was charged for services I did not receive. Had to call several times to have them removed. King Street is amazing and the selection of eateries are top notch. Not so great for families with young children or anyone not looking to spend a little extra. Not a very diverse area either but hey, it happens.
Rooms are beautiful, it's clean and quiet. A wonderful weekend escape!
Great little hotel! Service was good, location and rooms are lovely. Certainly worth consider if you are visiting old Town. Metro is walkable and the waterfront is a 20 minutes walk or a 5 minute free trolly ride away.
Beautiful, spacious room. Contemporary, updated feel, including original artwork. Bar and restaurant are upscale and current..
Attended a meeting at the hotel. The room was nice, the food was good and the staff was fantastic!
Great experience in Alexandria. Rooms were recently renovated. Huge shower with the original bath tub.
It can be a little hard to find, but the quality of the rooms and the service is wonderful
Jillian Leigh D.
Stayed at the lorien while our apartment was renovated. Nice modern design in the room. Although it has some quirks. Shower while nice and modern doesn't have anywhere to put things. The one shelf in the shower is full from the full size amenity bottels of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The room is a little small but it's old Town. The staff has been very nice but they move very slowly if you request anything.
Comfortable rooms, good restaurant for breakfast at the Bravo, good location near subway station, plenty of night life and restaurants in the vicinity
No rooms with bathtubs were available. The agent checking me in said that I would be able to get a rain shower room instead, but didn't and u didn't discover this until I got up to my room. The light in the bathroom flickered on and off. Otherwise my stay was nice and the premises was clean.
Stopped in for Sunday brunch for two. I had the corned beef hash which was excellent, large pieces of meat. My wife had the waffles with smoked salmon which was also delicious. Our waiter was excellent, we never felt like he was hovering over us but he checked on us frequently. Overall I would recommend, we will be going back.
What an amazing spa! I loved it there, Kristin at the front desk was so nice and helpful and got me all set up. They have everything you need, the ribs are so comfy. Anastasia was an incredible masseuse, she worked out all sorts of knots. The glass of champagne at the end was the perfect touch. I would definitely go again and would recommend it to anyone!

A very nice place to stay in Alexandria. They take dogs!
Brabo is an amazing restaurant.
Love the dog friendly atmosphere and comfortable, chic decor.
My last visit to The Lorien was only for dinner and drinks, but I've stayed and eaten there many times. Kimpton properties are generally excellent, but this location exceeds even that high standard. Try the Brabo Tasting Room for a really unique experience.
When I checked in, there was some confusion as to which room I booked. I thought I booked the room with a bathtub - turns out it was the one with the shower despite the description stating there was a separate bathtub. Started off frustrated right away with the lack of empathy from their front desk staff. When I did get in my room, the dog beds and litter box were waiting as requested. That was a plus. I immediately noticed how run down the room was though. This was an upgrade from the basic king room, yet the furniture was dinged, scratched, and the leather chair was peeling and cracked. I felt like I was staying at a motel, not a four star hotel. The mirror in the bathroom was coming out of the wall and hanging off the tile. The Lamp by the bed was hanging crooked. The bed frame was cracked. Needless to say I was not impressed.
Always enjoy our stays here. Nice rooms, great amenities and staff
When I arrived, I was told they were overbooked and they could not honor the first night of my reservation. I was the only member of my group that was sent to another hotel, a Hampton Inn, for the night. This particular hotel was experiencing disruptive construction right outside my window. The second night I was shuffled back to the Lorien and given a room. The staff did present me with a nice room and a bottle of wine for the inconvenience, neither of which I was able to enjoy given the circumstances of my trip. The room had minor issues with furniture falling apart, a leaky faucet, and outdated technology.
Fantastic hotel, very modern. Clean newly updated rooms. Great restaurant attached.
Upscale hotel on great location and with reasonable prices.
The hotel is nice and I love Kimptons but we heard rennovation noises constantly, despite the managers assurances we wouldn't hear a thing, and it really detracted from the experience.
This was our 3rd visit to the hotel. Wonderful accommodations. Very clean, very friendly and helpful staff. Food was delish.
Jason Bradshaw, Co F.
Very clean and modern, staff are extremely helpful. Will stay there again.
Very comfortable bed and room. We really liked the free wine they serve in the lobby every evening, too.
service is great, rooms are lovely, and the location is on point. great hotel overall. 5 stars
Catered graduation dinner. Excellent food, drink's and service.
Bought a gift card.
This place rules.
Not satisfied. The service, the facility and the overall experience was nothing like I was expecting. The sauna was moldy. Staff kept walking through the relaxation room and I got to hear more than a couple clients complaining over the phone about unfilled requests. The hotel seems nice tho.
Above average but far from great hotel.
Lovely hotel just outside old town Alexandria marred by a disaster of a restaurant (overpriced and overcooked. Used to be associated with Robert Wiedermeyer but really just bad now)
Very small rooms would not recommend it the Spy was nice
At best an ok hotel not VFM. Poor quality gym. Nice room but shower too weak. V nice people working at hotel but not worth the cost.
Excellent service, highly recommend cocktails at the Brabo bar.
I liked this place as the staff was friendly and that place well kept. Overnight parking will run you 32 which is reasonable for the area. They allow pets.
Very nice hotel and courteous staff
I woke up with 3 bed bug bites on me the next morning. Very painful/itchy Room 342
Great location, comfortable rooms, good service. Super-quiet and tranquil. The gym is quite small, however, and gets busy pre-work
Awesome hotel right on king street in old town. Got to see inside when i had family in from out of town. Great location near the metro and has a king street shuttle stop out front. Very walkable to the best shops and resturaunts old town has to offer. The rooms themselves were also very nice and spacious.
Very clean and peaceful. Not a place for small children.
(Translated by Google) Good Hotel, experience and service. (Original) Buen Hotel, experiencia y servicio.
Here for a wedding but the food was superb!!! Duck sausage was to die for and the staff is super friendly. They are also pet friendly!
Check in was easy and people are nice and helpful.
Wonderful venue, fantastic food and lovely space for a wedding

Great place 100% recommended
I really liked this place. Nice rooms with great ambience. Located in Old Alexandria and close to many other hotels and restaurants. Only two blocks to the Metro train station. Well worth the price and I highly recommend.
Service was great. They surprised us with a bottle of Champagne and Sparkling water to celebrate our anniversary. They also gave us a $10 coupon to use on the mini-bar. Speaking of mini-bar its fully stocked with everything! The room we had was on the 5th floor overlooking the courtyard. Room was nice with a nice shower and excellent toiletries as Kimpton usual. Only negative was the balcony door didn't lock, but since Spiderman wasn't around that wasn't a big deal. Valet parking is available, but we parked on the street with no issue. The trolley on King Street was the perfect added touch.
Beautiful hotel with great amenities. It's in a perfect location with valet parking.

Excellent hotel GREAT accommodations and staff?
Can't say enough
Clean nice rooms. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Nice rooms, very clean
The Kimpton Lorien Hotel and Spa was a beautiful hotel to visit. I attended a wedding in at the hotel over the weekend and a had a pleasant experience. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and were a pleasure to deal with. The event rooms were small but cozy and personal and the food was decent.
My favorite hotel in Old Town Alexandria. Great happy hour!
Fabulous restaurant. The food was outstanding.
Best booking decision I've ever made! Beautiful accommodations and rooms. Complimentary coffee in the am and a glass of wine to welcome you back after a long day of sightseeing. My husband and I enjoyed dinner at their Brabo Tasting Room and is was AMAZING. To top it off when the hotel found out we were celebrating our anniversary, they surprised us with strawberries and champagne! A truly Class A hotel! I can't recommend it more!!
Great location and service. Our room was clean.
This hotel is comfortable, like really comfortable. I spend over 100 days a year in hotels across the country and I slept better in the Lorien then anywhere else I've been; including my own bed! They also have an amazing restaurant. I cant speak to the spa though as I'm not a spa guy. This isn't a hotel for business travelers, as much as it is for leasure and relaxation travelers. Great energy. If I ever actually get a girlfriend, I'm planning on bringing her here.
Marc Taribo G.
The hotel and our room were very nice. Friendly staff.
Very friendly staff, great location, really took extra care of us during our meeting. Nice touch with wine tasting
My Eyebrow Designer (Christina Lee) is truly gifted!?????
Cozy and a little fancy, this hotel has friendly staff and has a "part of the neighbourhood" feel to it
Excellent stay, great location and service.
Excellent hotel experience
Nice hotel but no frills really. The bathroom doors are barn doors which make going to the bathroom pretty uncomfortable but that's a personal opinion. The hotel also doesn't have a pool which i found strange but if your in Alexandria I suppose you're notbspending much time in the room anyway.
I was here on business and for a retirement dinner recently. It is set back off of the street and can be a little hard to find the entrance at first. Which actually is a nice thing as it is off a busy street. Once inside it was cozy and quaint. We enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner here as well as a cocktail hour and everything was delicious. The staff was incredibly friendly and the spaces were all very comfortable. I didn't get a chance to stay in a room but I'd go back again for a night if the chance came up.

Love this small hotel and restaurant!
Extremely nice rooms, great service, clean gym....
Great hotel. Good for the money and nice location
The rooms are not very impressive, there is a full glass barn sliding door as a bathroom door, which does not offer any privacy! One of the employees behind the front desk needs to be let go, she seems to hate her job and it shows to the customers.
Great restaurant, the octopus was delicious and service couldn't be better.
central location, crammed rooms
Loved being downtown but not the best room
Was there for a group meal and was there for literally 4 hours. Did was not that great, and did not like spending my entire night there.
We had an excellent meal with friends. The cocktails were top notch .
Brabo was great!
I loved my experience here. Although they may have been extra attentive because it was my first visit, I really doubt it after seeing them interact with every other guest. They've helped me with any request I have made and even did things I didn't think to ask to make my stay more special. I hope I get the chance to book with them again.
Comfortable room. The staff is very friendly.
Great friendly staff. Rooms comfortable. Big screen TV. Highly recommended.
Best Kimpton in the Washington Metro area
Very pretty and quaint location for a private event.
This hotel was very clean and the staff was very attentive. However in my opinion the place is overpriced. Compared to other hotels in the area and location it is overpriced and the hotel isn't as nice as the pictures make it out to look.
Went for university alumni gathering. Good experience; courteous staff and good food.
Had dinner at Brabo and the food was delicious.
Friendly staff and clean hotel. Was there for a meeting and the food was mediocre
Professional stay at the Lorien hotel for a meeting in the suite. The staff was very genuine and attending. The hotel was hard to find at first with no big signs
Beautiful hotel and spa, exceptional staff.
Very nice location in Old Town Alexandria. The food and drinks were both good, though perhaps a bit expensive for what you get.
Lovely rooms! Great location :)
Nice hotel in a great location with a friendly staff. Wine hour at night is a great touch. Complimentary coffee in the am was delicious. Will stay here again.
Beautiful rooms and outdoor spaces, were thinking of enlisting their services for our wedding.
Nice place and one of my favorites in old town, nothing amazing but better than most of the others in Old Town
Lukewarm room service breakfast and knot tied in iron to stop retracting plug......
Front desk staff are always great!
Room with crappy double beds despite being a romantic weekend. Was not told at front desk that room was two double beds. Bathroom was very basic-honestly just a room. Room was attached/connected to two other rooms so absolutely zero privacy. These are kids rooms. Should NEVER pay for these rooms. Lobby nice. But valet stand was full and could never find even a place to check in. Just could not be more disappointed for the price.
Great location with easy access to the metro and restaurants. Comfortable bed, friendly desk staff.
Best hotel I've ever stayed in. The staff are wonderful, the rooms are beautiful, and these are the nicest bathrooms I've ever had the pleasure of showering in. I don't even live that far, but I come here all the time anyway just because. If only I could live here...
What you'd expect from a Kimpton hotel
My husband and I stayed here with a group of friends, we found the location convenient and parking was easy for this neighborhood. We felt the rooms were a little dark but otherwise loved everything about the place, lobby and rooms were clean...we never made it to the bar/restaurant but hope to next time we're in town.
Love this hotel
Amazing hotel & spa located in one of the most beautiful places I've seen around the area. I would definitely stay here again.
Visited kimpton for the first time for our anniversary. The staff where extremely friendly and made us feel like royalty. Upgraded suite, complimentary drinks and desserts, champagne it was amazing! The resteraunts were excellent and the staff, food and cocktails were perfection. The price and proximity to the metro is great for DC visitors.
Beautiful rooms, we had a suite with a clawfoot tub which was amazing! The staff was perfectly attentive and our meal at the onsite restaurant, Brabo, was delicious and delightfully unique. We loved our stay!
Great Spa-Enjoy a relaxing space and a great Massage too-come for Spa day
Great service. Very friendly staff Love We requested a crib and it came with a baby shower kit. Won my heart over. See pic Wine hour. Delicious wine and great atmosphere. Raid the bar. Got a 10 dollar gift card. Great ! Bikes to use. Didn't use it but it's a neat idea. Valet parking. You can do street parking. Valet is 30. Street is 1 buck and change a hour. Think about it.
We had a nice, romantic night at Lorien for my wife's birthday. It started off worrisome, as our room wasn't ready, but it turned into an upgrade to a beautiful suite. We nixed our plans to hit up one of the restaurants on King Street, and decided to order room service from Brabo. Food came quickly and in perfect order, and was quite tasty. All of the staff were very polite, friendly and attentive to our needs. We will stay again soon.
Staff are very helpful and decor is nice. Doors for bathrooms are a little weird and don't allow much privacy (something to keep in mind for families, etc). Would stay again.
Amazing rooms and staff is super friendly
Nice room size, beautiful décor. Hotel had a wonderful scent in the lobby and hallways.
I've stayed at this location six or seven times now and each time, it is the same level of Kimpton excellence. Cozy lobby, and excellent affiliate dining spaces. This last time, we checked in a little bit after the complimentary happy hour and the front desk staff provided us with a coupon for wine at the bar. It's little things like this that make me always look for a Kimpton wherever I go!
The best place to stay, right in old town, quality food and service. Has to be one of the nicest hotels around. The general manager served wine at the social hour, Stephan was a very interesting and kind person. We enjoyed the stay every much.
Lush rooms with rainfall showers. Very comfortable bed and solid staff.. was only a guest for a night but it was delightful.
A beautiful hotel in an amazing urban setting. Excellent service, comfortable needs, and within walking distance of the Metro.
I love staying at the Lorien when I'm in Alexandria. I have an office on King Street just a short walk from the Lorien, so it's really convenient. The evening greeting with a glass of wine, the wood oven baked muscles and AM coffee out the door in the morning set you up just right!
Kimpton service is beyond fantastic
Friendly staff, very clean and nice rooms, well located to shops and transportation. Not much else you can ask for!
Check in staff weren't competent. They could not locate our reservation. The issue was eventually resolved after about 30 minutes. The room was nice though. Great bed and bathroom. Valet service was excellent.
Wonderful visit. Highly recommended. Great amenities and service.
Good service and professional event staff
Good place nice people
Excellent atmosphere and service. Wish that they had a coed spa area.
Not your typical Kimpton. I was put in a room with two crappy double beds. This was probably the most disappointing thing about my stay because I was expecting the unbelievably comfortable beds I've experienced at other Kimpton hotels. It's actually the main reason I booked this place. In addition, the spa is pretty mediocre. Very small and kind of dirty.
Beautiful botique hotel, valet parking, very dog friendly
This is really one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. The interior design is phenomenal, and perhaps only surpassed by the amazing service offered by the staff. The location near the metro station is perfect as well.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Lots of local places to eat as well, though I wish that their internet access was free.
Extremely clean, friendly staff, great proximity to restaurants in the area, and Brabo is delicious!
Great service. Very vice rooms.
I went to their restaurant, Brabo, for restaurant week. They had a three course meal option for $35 that was plated beautifully and tasted great. The service was excellent and very much like I was more important than I actually am. Overall I would go again, but bear in mind a normal meal would be closer to $55 a person.
Visited the spa. The staff were very nice and accommodating, and the spa service was great.
Went for a couples masage and the service was amazing, from the front desk staff to the masseuses. Clean, efficient, relaxing.
Very hospitable for our baby shower. We made some day of schedule changes and they rolled with it. Very well versed.
Excellent room and service
Had drinks after work Good selection, good service.
I was there for a work related dinner. We hung out by the patio and had drinks and snacks. The snacks were good and the bartender was great. Dinner was well paced. The endive salad was very good. The salmon was tasty. The risotto looked good but not filling. It would be a good place to host a small more intimate gathering.
Nice staff - Beautiful rooms.
Clean, spacious rooms and a friendly, welcoming staff. Would stay here again.
This was an all around great hotel with a friendly staff, modern look and relaxing atmosphere. Stayed here for a long weekend in Arlington and it was perfectly located between the trains - allowing for quick side trips into DC - and the historic Alexandria downtown area.
Clean rooms. Great hosts.
Johnnie Weathersby I.
This was my second trip to The Lorien, and as always the service to my workgroup and I was superb.
We came for my sister's wedding and it was a great experience. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming.
Beautiful establishment and very well kept rooms! Size if the rooms is huge.
Very clean/neat hotel in Old Town Alexandria. Room was great, and the staff was helpful.
Steam from the shower set off the first alarm.
Great location, perfect for walking around Alexandria and convenient for the metro into Washington. Nice hotel with good sized rooms and great bath tubs and showers.
Very nice and we'll kept. Excellent staff
Rooms were nice very comfortable beds. Great shower overall excellent hospitality
This was my first time staying at the Lorien and I really enjoyed it! We were fortunate enough to take advantage of a last minute deal and booked a room for a couple of nights after the recent blizzard moved out of the area. We ended up with a room with views of both King Street and the little courtyard in front of the entrance. It was beautiful! With the exception of some snow plows the street noise was actually pretty minimal and not disruptive. The beds were very comfortable and made me yearn for some sleep-in time. I did knock one star though for the bathroom.... The door is a pretty fancy frosted glass panel on track wheels that you slide left and right but it never actually closes or locks. This leaves a nice gap on the side that could leave you awkwardly locking eyes with someone coming into the room. It may be a minor nitpick but depending on your comfort level with your partner/family/friends/etc. It could be an annoyance.
Nice location, nice room, nice amenities.
This was my second time staying at a Kimpton Hotel. I am sold on the brand. It was an all around great stay in a great location with an extremely helpful staff.
Great boutique hotel with great service.
I highly recommend you read the reviews dedicated to the spa before you visit (on Yelp and Google)! I wish I had read the detailed 2/3 star reviews - they're experiences were similarly abysmal. I completed a survey sent by Lorien Spa after my facial. Due to my answers I was contacted by the spa under the guise of "hoping to improve my experience during my next visit". That was not their true intention at all. Lisa M ended up telling me legally I can not return because their products caused a negative reaction. I then received a cancellation email about my next appointment. In reality my survey explained that extractions weren't completed, chemical peels are pushed here, and their products are pushed on you! My face looked really calm when I left but the day after I realized it is because they used a tinted sunscreen and didn't do extractions. I was really disappointed because I love Kimptons- but this spa feels like a cheap afterthought in a nice Kimpton hotel.Oh well. Let's put this one on the AVOID AT ALL COSTS list. I recommend Red Door Spa in Arlington as an alternative. They're about $25 more expensive per service but their products are safe (and recognized world wide) and their service is impeccable.
This review is for the Lorien Spa only. As a treat to ourselves, my boyfriend and I decided to get facials and massages this weekend. Since we live in Old Town, we walked over to the spa and booked an appointment with the staff onsite. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. We asked to see the shower rooms prior to making an appointment, which they allowed. They also took the time to explain the packages. We were hoping for a couples' massage but ultimately decided to get separate packages since a couples' massage for 50 minutes is $310. I chose the Sweet Dreams package, which includes a massage, facial, and scalp massage (115 minutes for $250). My boyfriend opted for the Gentlemen's Dream package, which includes a deep therapeutic massage and a facial (100 minutes for $220). Even though we couldn't be in the same room together for the massage, the staff made a note to have both our facials start at the same time and assured us that we would have time together in the relaxation room. Come Sunday, we headed back to Lorien. One of the ladies handed us keys to our lockers and a binder with a small pamphlet to fill out. She led me to the ladies' shower room and explained everything in there. My locker contained a robe, flip flops, and an extra large fluffy towel. The shower room has a vanity with seats where you can blow-dry and style your hair. There are large containers on an adjacent bookshelf that have makeup remover wipes, combs, and exfoliating pads. There's a steam room and a large sink with cleanser, body lotion, mouthwash, and facial mist. Across from the shower room is the relaxation room. There's a table with teas and cucumber water. Seats 8 with chairs and benches backed with huge pillows and surrounded with candles, diffuser scented sticks, and orchids. There are magazines for pleasure reading as well. We waited in the relaxation room before our facial specialists. Ludmila did my facial and she was very gentle. She cleansed, exfoliated, and steamed my face first before doing the extractions. I've never had a professional do extractions on my face before, so there was certainly more pressure and pain but that's to be expected. Ludmila advised me to use certain products for my acne-prone skin and said she will bring some recommended Kerstin Florian products to the front desk. Afterwards, she did a natural enzyme peel, a deep cleansing facial massage, hand and arm massage, and a scalp massage with lavender oils. The facial was wonderful and my skin felt so smooth and clean afterwards. Jason did my massage. He was very gentle and targeted my problem areas (neck, shoulders). All in all, it was a very, very relaxing afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed both my facial and massage. It's a bit on the pricey end, with both our packages and tip coming out to be over $600. The specialists are all fantastic and staff are wonderful. Great little pick-me-up!
Food and hotel is very nice. Rooms are perfect
Really wonderful spa services - facials, massage. Will try to make it back on an annual basis!
My wife and stayed at the Lorien on 9/27/14 for a quick date night get away in Alexandria. The hotel was clean and staff was efficient and helpful. I am still not quite convinced it was worth the price, but I can't complain too much.
Stayed at the Lorien for a business meeting for the Lancaster Chamber. Things I enjoyed. Very clean, super nice staff, free wifi, Dunkin Donuts around the corner, and everything is walking distance or take the free trolly that runs you to the other end of town. My recommendations. Have your vehicle valeted, these guys are the best. I forgot my phone charger in the car, front desk called the valet and they went to retrieve it for me, no questions asked. They asked me what I was looking to do during my down time, when I told them antiques, they googled all the local shops walking distance from the hotel. They went above and beyond their job description. I would stay here again.
WELL OK SO WHEN I WENT I GOT A GREAT SPA
The hotel staff was professional and very accommodating. The room was beautiful and comfortable. All around the stay was relaxing. Wish I would have had more time to enjoy the spa. Would definitely recommend and revisit
Beautiful hotel with great service! Some rooms can be a little steep on price but worth it in my opinion! Great place for parties as well!
Certainly clean. Certainly high class look on the surface. Only problems were a barely functioning TV controller (minor) and the water piping could be heard going through the walls; like when someone was taking a shower or flushing the toilet upstairs. Wine reception is strictly 5-6 and underwhelming in atmosphere. Will try other area hotels, but not bad. (Stayed twice, similar experience)
This is unlike any other Kimpton I have stayed in so far. I booked a week at the Lorien for work, as a more affordable option from staying in the city, and a respite from my week in Capitol Hill. Despite the crazy fun wedding taking place upon my arrival, my room was a quiet calm space. I enjoyed great wine, beer and delicious "tarts" (pizza) at the Brabo Tasting Room, and expensive but delicious steak and desserts at the Brabo restaurant. The staff is what I expect from a Kimpton - friendly, liberal, fast at taking action, and they remember you. I felt loved at the Lorien, even if I was having some key problems (security systems at the Feds hates hotel keys) and had one hiccup with the restaurant upon my arrival (the tasting room became the place the restaurant staff went to watch a baseball game, and they closed earlier then the sign says, I complained to the staff, and the manager called, reimbursed my meal (!!!! total surprise) and things were great after that!) Anyway, my room was far away from the elevator and in a quiet part of the hotel (actually on the street). Rooms are a nice size (standard American hotel room size) and I did sneak a peek of a suite when passing by one being cleaned and it was quite calm and nice. There is a nice courtyard in the hotel and outside the hotel, but the weather was too cold. Wine happy hour comes with complimentary hor'dourves from Brabo! I also took advantage of the spa - it was wonderful. My first professional massage (!) and I was treated great. There were lots of regulars there, which says a lot about the services. The steam room was a nice treat. My only complaint: they don't do mani/pedi's. But that's OK, I felt stoned after my massage and could careless about my nails after that! Love the Lorien. Love Kimpton!
The location is great, convenient to the Metro and access to a a free trolly. The hotel was nice, but I don't understand being listed as the top 100 in nation, it isn't that unqiue or special as compared to a multitude of hotels I have stayed in. The hair dryer in my room was broken. I would have thought the maid would have noticed it and replaced it. I took it to the front desk and they did put a new one in the room.
A Kimpton hotel, small with clean, modern decor. Staff is very accommodating and service is clearly emphasized at this hotel chain. Located two blocks/five minutes away from both Metro (20 minutes into DC) and free trolley that takes you up and down King Street in Old Town Alexandria, which is lined with shops, restaurants, and bars. Room had big modern bathroom, comfortable bed, and was well stocked with above average, moderately priced goodies. Parking is $30/day for valet, but street parking could be had, albeit time restrictions. Complimentary wine happy hour and two nice restaurants attached. Join free Kimpton Hotel rewards program for perks. Did not use the spa this visit.
We didn't stay at Lorien, but did a day at the spa and it was fabulous. Both my husband and I had massages then we relaxed in the relaxation room, read magazines, and sipped champagne for our wedding anniversary. My massage therapist Lauren Wynia was amazing. It was probably in my top 2 of massages. The facility is a tad small and privacy is not to be found in locker rooms, but it's hard to find a spa experience nearby and I would definitely recommend Lorien. It was certainly relaxing.
I will not go back to Lorien spa or hotel! My friend wanted to have her bridal shower there- they advertise hosting bridal showers so we planned one there. Although we discussed our plans in advance with them, they told us later we could not bring any food in, not even cake. Their website says that you can host a party with beverages and food. Yet we were told no, we could not bring any food, even after we had made our plans with them, not at the beginning. They eventually offered to bring a cheese and fruit plate to us. It was something but we were not pleased. We planned the party 3 months ahead but they would not hold our time block (4 hours for 14 people) while people decided on treatments. They insisted on scheduling others during our block. While I understand thier desire for business, we would have filled the entire block if they had given us 1 more week. Three months ahead, 14 people, you think they could be flexible. The day before the party, we called to check one detail. They informed us then that there was no room for us to hangout together between treatments. They also said we could not open gifts there! We were shocked! This was Bridal Shower! We were upfront in our plans from the beginning- 14 people, for a 4hr block for a Bridal Shower- with food, drinks, and gifts- the *normal* Bridal shower routine. Thier entire attitude was very rude, so rude that I counseled changing locations but the bride was afraid we'd be charged a fee. I tripled checked their website, which has a quote about Bridal showers and says that guests may open gifts there. Yet we were told we may not. Since the spa is in the hotel, we called the hotel to ask if there was another place we could sit and open gifts. We were told no. In the whole hotel, there was no where we could sit? Again, rudely we were told no and offered no assistance. On the day of, the staff there were friendly and services good. But we were so stressed from calling guests to change plans, finding a new place to host the party portion of the event that we could not relax! At every break we were trying to find out how to do presents and cake. The spa has a lovely waiting room, big enough for us all. But we were not allowed to have our party there. We were not even allowed to move the chairs to sit together- because of the 'other guests'. We were also constantly shushed and told to be quieter. Of which we saw two people in the whole 4hrs. And again, given a chance, we could have booked those appointments and easily had the whole party there. While we were there, there was only some trail mixes around and water. There was no cheese or fruit platter even though they told us they would bring one.... At one point they told us they were moving us to the 'Living Room' upstairs. We thought that was great. We brought all our gifts upstairs and settled in. We tried to move to the Tasting Room nearby for food but they were full. The restaurant was not open yet either. The Tasting Room Staff (WONDERFUL!) offered to bring food over. 15minutes later we got settled with food and drink ordered- when the hotel staff told us we had to leave because they were having a wine tasting in the Living Room. Really? We were just kicked out of the spa, now we are kicked out of the hotel? We just spent a lot of money there! I will never go back to Lorien. Their attitude was absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable!
