I wanted to purchase a spa day for my daughter's birthday next week. After researching the spas in the city, I decided on Faina European Day Spa. I live near Wakefield Ave in the Bronx, which is a long train ride, so I checked the web site to ensure they were open today. I arrived there at approximately 1:10. When I got to their door it was locked so I called and no one answered so I left a message stating I wanted to purchase the lunch spa package explaining that your website stated you were open today, I don't understand why no one is here. So, on the way out I asked the concierge/security person if he knew why they were closed. He was also puzzled, so he called them, and NO ONE answered. I was disappointed and upset that I had made the trip for nothing wasting my time and money. On the train at 96th street heading back to the Bronx, I received a call from someone at the spa, unfortunately, I did not get her name. She informed me that they were closed for lunch. My reply was "WHY DIDN'T YOU PLACE A SIGN ON YOUR DOOR STATING THE HOURS YOUR ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED FOR LUNCH"? I would have waited for you to return. She didn't have an answer. She suggested I could return to the spa or purchase the spa package online. I informed her that I wanted to actually see the spa adding I had some questions as well. She once again stated I could return to the spa to purchase the package. I said I would be open to going back downtown if she would consider taking an amount off the spa package for my inconvenience. She told me she could not do that. I should have asked to speak to a manager, but by that time I was done. A simple sign on the door stating their hours for lunch would have been nice, and also if your web site states your business is open, it should be open!!! They lost a $500.00 gift certificate sale.
UPDATE: The manager reached out to me and everything has been taken care of. Thank-you.

A space to connect to yourself and maybe some thing deeper. Faina eu Day Spa and the group at Yoga at the Raven are all masters who teach with honesty, humor and beauty. there is some thing special brewing right here and you may experience it as soon as you pass via those wooden gates.

Called made appointment because you could not book online. Lady answers, sounds like home phone not biz. She had zero communication skills. When we got there they told us the microdermobrasion machine was broke. I was supposed to get a body treatment that was at least 60 mins. Got 30 mind. Didn't communication my request to spa tech. My husband got the massage special. Was to get 15 min free foot or scalp but didn't. I was done early because my session was incorrect. I paid mine and my husband's and they refused to let him leave without putting up tip. Bad service person and won't go back. Want refund

The pressure was perfect and masseuse was very thorough, possibly the best massage I have ever had. There was a lot of added touches that made the massage great, like heated towels. She didn't talk too much but it was never once uncomfortably quiet. She was extremely professional and obviously experienced in doing massage. I cannot say enough good things.

Had a very positive experience here - the staff are helpful and the therapist was very good at being attentive to pressure, pain points, ticklishness and temperature without distracting from the relaxation of the massage. The environment is simple, clean and soothing. And the cost/value is excellent. Only two little negatives - it's a little difficult to figure out which is the right entrance the first time you go and there was a little bit of sound bleed from the nearby rooms.

This is the worst place to go for massages (especially deep tissue) that I've been to in Manhattan--and I've been to dozens. The masseuse had no idea what she was doing, performing the same 2 light strokes for 50 minutes. She didn't ask if I needed more pressure or how it was. I tried to tell her where to concentrate but there was no English. She just did whatever she wanted. Only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 was because they were (from what I could tell) clean and reasonably nice. The sandals and robe were actually painful to wear. For massages instead try Haven Spa for the same price. My fiance and I are appalled at how boring and lazy the massage was. Would NOT recommend -- maybe I got a bad day but do not risk it! And if you are the manager please speak to your staff who gave a lazy deep tissue massage.

Paid for a 70min facial with microderm and oxygen. I came because they were listed that they use decleor skin care. During my facial my estitician said they stopped carrying it because they stopped selling to the u.s. if i had known i would of never came. She also finished me at 60 min when i paid for 70 and she Didn't do the eye treatment that was described in the facial and to top it off when I was checking out the receptionist told me to tip 15 to 20%. Granted I would have if I was given what I paid for but this place was probably the worst facial Spa I've ever been to

Worst manicure I've ever gotten. There's bubbles in the polish and the whole coat of polish started to peel off the first day, not chip, peel. On top of that, she didn't cut my nails the same length. We did the romantic enchantment for two. The massage was fine, but I would have preferred something that actually releved muscle tension, rather than just have oil put on my back. The pedicure/manicure was a little awkward since one lady did both. So we just sat there watching the other have their nails done. Probably why the manicure was so bad, since she was rushing to do both. Chocolate was good, though! Overall, would not recommend.

I had the Tension Tamer Massage 50 mins. I arrived there early but they were already set up for my visit so I didn't have to wait a minute.
The massager (a girl from Hungary) did a very good job with me.
The office is a little bit outdated but everything is very clean.
I'd have loved it to have been offered to use the shower, or maybe a tea (instead of just water) at the end of the massage. But overall, a very good experience.

The team at Faina European Day Spa is such perfectionists, I can’t say enough about my treatments with them. I have been coming for the past couple of years and they really know their stuff when it comes to facials. I have oily, breakout prone skin. My skin continues to improve (tone, texture and breakouts) and I will continue rely on them to keep my skin looking healthy.

It was the worst spa place I've ever been. The shower which is called steam shower stunk like mold, and was dirty, the towels and Robes stunk as well, they looked old and dirty. Overall for cleanliness, a degrace. I brought my husband here for his birthday and sadly it was the worst birthday gift I could have ever giving him. The lady who did his manicure and pedicure was incredibly inexperienced. The cuticle cutter was rusted. My husband had to cut his own nails! The champagne tasted old and cheap! It was the worst way I have ever spent $400. The only thing we got to enjoy was the massages. I definitely will never be coming back here and I recommend everyone to not even bother. Learn from my mistake to save yourself the disappointment.

Tried them out during Spa Week. Baron(sp?) was my esthetician and was excellent. Detail oriented facial while taking time to be gentle and explain the process along the way so I knew if something may sting, etc. happy with my experience. It's inside a doorman building. You sign in and take elevator up to 4th floor.

Worst experience ever. Would never go back. Before you open the door you can hear the owner talking s$$t about you because you are running late - meanwhile you told them in advance and told them to take it out of your session. She treats her staff like slaves. With regards to the payment the whole system is odd. They must have a lot of deadbeats going there because they treat you like a criminal and I thought I was going to a nice spa because I wanted a relaxing experience - the payment is not a factor. Totally a waste of my time. The glowing reviews must be friends and family posting. There is no way any of that is true.
And they corner you as you are paying with a piece of paper asking for a review and to check if how many stars you will give them while 4-5 of the employees stare at you. Never seen anything like that.

I just recently went to this spa for the Decadent Duet spa package. Firstly, the address is sort of complicated. You might come across two different addresses its the same building just different sides. Then you take an elevator up to the fourth floor which leads you into a creepy hallway. Faina Spa is located in room 402.
When you walk in its a small space but it was alright to me. I started with the 50minute massage which was actually very nice I really enjoyed it. The noise level outside the room could of been lower. Someone either open, closed, or dropped something. The decor is okay the spa could improve more on the tranquility aspect. My partner received a pedicure and I received a manicure by the same woman, and at the end you sit in a small corner where they pull some sort of screen in front of you for "privacy" and they give you two glasses of champagne and chocolates that was still in the wrapper. Overall the package was nice we both enjoyed ourselves however I don't think it was worth that much money.

I had a perfectly good experience. Visiting NY for biz and social. My friend had an appt. at Faina's and said she would call and see if they could squeeze me in to for a massage and manicure so we could then go to dinner afterwards. They were able to get me in to join my friend. Everything you expect in a massage and manicure was present. The level of professionalism and skill from the staff was what one would expect, it was clean etc...I do agree the ambiance could go up a notch but I'm going to give Faina's 5 stars anyway to make up for all the people who gave nasty reviews. When someone really likes a place they tell their friends, they don't go out of their way to yelp about it. Most people who have a bad experience also tell their friends, unless they don't have any friends to talk to. I never write reviews but was compelled when my experience was very nice and I saw what I thought was ridiculous on yelp.

I purchased this on Groupon for my daughter as a birthday gift. I asked her to write a review.
My experience at Faina European Spa wasn't exactly a good one. In short my masseuse hurt me and my facialist insulted me. I was given the Groupon for the 50 minute hot stone massage and the 50 minute pore cleansing facial as a gift for my birthday. I was so excited to use it!
The masseuse seemed like an amateur. Although she did ask me several times if the heat of the stones was too much to handle, she didn't seem to realize that a quick swipe of the hot stone over the top of my arm, where there is hair and tougher skin, is not the same as holding the hot stone to more sensitive areas for several seconds. She did this both on my hands and feet, holding the hot stone to the skin for upwards of 20 seconds until I felt like I was being burned. When I told her it was too hot, she looked at me incredulously as if to say, “well you didn't mind it before…”.
When I first arrived she asked me if my massage was for pain management or relaxation. I told her it was just for relaxation, figuring that this would prevent me from receiving a painful massage where she insisted on “getting my knots out”. I was wrong. She did just that and I left feeling worse than I came.
The facialist clearly thought that she was a dermatologist, diagnosing me with a skin condition, insulting my apparent incorrect skin care, and at the end of the appointment trying to sell me a $65 cream. Not to mention the hot steam that was aimed at my face during the entire facial was completely overwhelming. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. She just kept telling me that it was ok, and this was all normal. I don’t care what was normal or not. I was the customer and I was not having a pleasant experience.
At the end, I wished I hadn't gone at all because this gift wound up costing me in the form of tax and what they demand to be at least a 15% tip for each technician. Do yourself a favor and don’t buy this Groupon.

I usually don't like facials however, this is the best facial of my life. I left the spa with glowing skin and felt very rejuvenated. I also want to shine light on the very relaxing and thorough couples massage I received with my partner. The massage therapists were very attentive as well as the staff. The overall atmosphere of Faina's European Day Spa was calming, relaxing, and peaceful. I would definitely recommend this spa for its overall wonderful experience, attention, and affordable pricing! I recently had a facial at Faina Spa on W57th St. and I HIGHLY recommend it. The beautician, who was trained in Europe, was thorough in removing impurities and exfoliating my skin. She did it very safely, with no too much irritation: I could go out the same day, with my make up on. I saw immediate results and my skin continues to improve days later. She also recommended suitable skincare products. The services are reasonably priced. The spa is has a relaxing atmosphere and the whole experience was great. I plan to come regularly. See for yourself.

Spa Week can be a blessing or a curse. For us regular spa guys/gals, we know where to spot a good deal, and it encourages you to try new places. The down side is that the spa week program doesn't exactly screen for quality and this is a perfect example of how a bad spa experience can ruin it for people who don't know what a good one is. With spa week 2012 fast upon us, I hope this will warn anyone who doesn't know better away from this place.
Besides being the worst massage ever, and that they had me go to a man (when I invariably request a woman), my experience booking and arriving should explain why this place should be avoided at all costs -- even spa week costs.
First, the "spa" is impossible to find, the address and the directions confusing. You have to find your way up to the fourth floor of an office building, where there are nearly no signs or directions. Plus, a super swank spa is right near this address. I can only imagine they steal a good deal of business from some lucky patrons.
Finally making it in with a minute to spare, I'm ignored by the receptionist and the manager/owner, who are yelling at customers (they took a few phone calls) and complaining between each other and in front of me ABOUT the customers. The few times I went up to ask when I could get changed, I received an eye roll and a dismissive hand wave. Eventually I was told there are no changing rooms, so I could put my things in the closet by the door. I was then lead about 20 minutes late into the "room" to get undressed.
The massage "room" was a parallelogram consisting of accordion room dividers with ZERO sound insulation and a draft.
Although my un-requested male masseuse was sweet and kept asking me if the pressure was ok (sweet but annoying, you could tell he was a student or at least not a pro), he used crappy quality oils that made me wish they had a shower for me to wash them off with ASAP rather than having to rub my skin raw to get the cheap, sticky sweet smell off of my body.
I obviously won't go back ever, and neither should you.

If you're looking for a classy spa, where you can slip into a relaxing mood wearing nice robes and drinking tea before getting a treatment and then have a wonderful treatment--this isn't it. The spa is in an apartment building, in what looks like your friend's apartment on East End Ave. The waiting room has a futon where you will sit for 10 minutes doing nothing (because they asked you to come 10 minutes early, probably so you could enjoy the futon).
Then they will bring you into the bedroom--I mean massage room for your treatment (if you're having a massage). They ask you to take off your clothes, and you can either hang them on the back of the door or you can put them on the radiator (which probably doesn't work because it was pretty cold in there).
Then the massage begins. At least you might think it is a massage. What it turns out to be is a woman rubbing cold lotion on your body for an hour. After 15 minutes of sticking my face in the hole (which had a cover on it, like the one you put on a toilet seat in a public restroom), I asked the lady to please apply more pressure. Nothing, nada, zip. Just more and more cold lotion. At one point when she was massaging my hand, she just wafted it in the air for a while. I mean seriously.
At the end of the massage, she did something rather strange to my neck and it started to twinge a bit. I thought I was going to pinch a nerve in my neck. My wife had a very similar experience (it was a couples massage).
Oh, and don't be fooled by the Champagne and Chocolate--they sit you down on tiny chairs at the end of a hallway, move a wall divider to enclose you off, and serve you some nasty warm flat sparkling crap and give you a piece of chocolate each).
All this for only $230.
I explained it to the very unsympathetic receptionist who explained to me that they are a small spa but the masseuses are the best in the city. She said they have nothing but positive reviews (which, I would venture to guess, are written by her). She also explained that they do not know how to serve champagne (it is very hard to figure out that it should be served cold).
Do yourself a favor, book your massage elsewhere and save yourself the embarrassment.
