The rating says it all, no comment needed. I paid a decent amount of money for nothing. A complete loss.

Never ever go there. They fried my hair with highlights and my hair fell out..
Had a cut and color by Katie. She did an amazing job! I’m beyond happy with my hair.
No longer open
Edit: Owner Mary reached out to me after my review and was very kind and understanding. Set me up with another stylist Katie, who did an amazing job fixing the prior cut. After 2nd experience I wanted to take the time to come back and change my review. So I took a chance to try a new stylist Shannon after 9th st location closed and my usual stylist left but that was my mistake. The stylist who did my hair curled it afterwards and then literally said “there it looks better now”... like it had to be curled to look nice in the first place. Not exactly the thing you want to hear after a 60$ haircut. I feel like if the cut I asked for wasn’t going to look right with my hair thickness/texture, as a professional- give me your recommendation. And it’s funny how she said “well let me know it’s your hair” after she already cut it. Like what can you do now to fix it besides going shorter? No thanks.
They did a fantastic job! I'm so happy I was able to come here. My hair looks wonderful! They were very nice and helpful. Bonnie was AWESOME! I was going in a different direction and they made me look and feel wonderful. I'm so glad I listened because they gave me exactly what I pictured. Thank you guys for getting me in so fast and giving me a beautiful haircut and color! I will definitely be back and I can't wait to have you do my hair for my wedding May 18 (if you are available). Thanks so much again!
You guys need to worry about cutting hair instead of asking personal questions you have no reason to ask. People come in from different walks of life and should be made to feel welcome and have their hair done, not asked questions that don't have anything to do with hair and feel judged. Breaking the ice is fine, but sheesh! It's too much...
They accommodate walk ins. Abby gave me an awesome hair cut :)
Friendly people with lots of skill.
I've been here twice, never as a customer, merely as company for my sister in law. The environment is welcoming, the staff pleasant and initially it comes off as a place I wouldn't mind going to. First visit, my sister in law was hoping to get some highlights, she was very specific and very excited because she would be seeing her husband for the first time in six months. He is in the military. She wanted very soft and natural highlights and instead, after almost four hours, she came out of the salon with horrible blonde streaks that in no way resembled what she originally asked for. She didn't really have time or energy to fight then over it and knew that her hair wouldn't be able to be fixed. I didn't say anything and I let it rest. Maybe this was just the ignorance of an individual employee or an unusual incident. The second time, my sister in law had her eyebrows done. The service rendered honestly wasn't great, but I didn't say anything, my sister in law seemed happy and honestly that was what mattered. However, they were having difficulties with their computer systems for making transactions and it took a bit for then to charge her. Life happens, systems fail. Checking later on my sister saw that they had charged her twice, once for the the eyebrow work and then a second time for 168 dollars. We called, they assure us it would be taken care of. Days later it isn't and so far from what I've seen they have been disgracefully unconcerned and nothing has been done. Whether or not they make refunding my sister in law a greater difficulty, my opinion has been formed. Expect a warm welcome which only survives for as long as you have no complaints and to suffer under the work of amateur stylists (though I'm sure there are some skilled employees). I'm sure my experience doesn't speak for the salons complete quality, but it is my experience and I am sharing it to the benefit of other possible patrons.
Was there today, 8/27/18 -found it via Google maps/Excellent Friendly quick service... Will absolutely be my go-to spot when I'm in Durham ???????????? Katherine was my superb stylist, soo friendly & I Love my blow-out????
ATTN...... DON’T GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO SUPPORT A BUSINESS THAT THINKS ITS OK TO STEAL FROM THEIR EMPLOYEES, EMBEZZLE MONEY OUT OF THE ACCOUNT THATS USED TO PAY THIER EMPLOYEES AND ACT LIKE NOTHING IS WRONG!!! ALSO I’M PRETTY SURE ALTERING YOUR EMPLOYEES TAXES IS ILLEGAL TOO!!!!!! THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN ALL 3 LOCATIONS BC IM SURE THERES A WHOLE BUNCH OF SHADY EVENTS GOING ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS!!!!!!
I made two appointments at the South point location for make up and and blow out for my engagement pictures. The salon called an hour and a half before my appointment, on a Sunday, to tell me they had to cancel my makeup appointment. It left me with very little time to find a replacement and I ended up just doing it myself. The blow out was good. After arriving at the salon, I asked to speak to a manager about my cancelled appointment. I was never able to speak with anyone and simply told they were sorry. It would've been nice to have been shown some sort of gesture instead of "sorry, tough luck" . Not to mention the South point location is dismal and not well taken care of.
Came here for my wedding hair and make up and was pleasantly surprised on how flexible the stylists were in order to accommodate my vision for my hair while still maintaining a reasonable price. I will definitely schedule again for another event.
Scheduled an appointment based on a local recommendation. Arrived without an idea of what I wanted for a formal hair style, outside weddings are not kind to my hair! The stylist listed to my concerns, asked about the dress and wedding, then suggested a style that was fabulous. The style lasted all evening without showing any signs of frizz. Will certainly be back. Thank you!

Skyler is amazing. I am very happy with my haircut. She did an awesome job.
Great experience. Good price
I am a future soldier who needed a haircut today. My hair is fairly long and I wanted a low-maintanence pixie cut and all one color for basic. I have damaged hair and didn't want all that fuss during boot camp so cutting my hair seemed sensible. After calling they agreed to see me as I stated I had literally no time (I am being taken to the Hilton tomorrow at 1 to check in and ship off on first thing Tuesday). My phone was dead and my boyfriend poked his head in to see how long this would take. Mind you, my boyfriend is black, and I am Pacific Islander. They kept questioning me about my boyfriend, saying I was "very upset" (about what, I have no idea) then asked me (Laurie, I think is her name) if I truly am okay and if there is something going on. They went on to wash and blow dry my hair and next thing I know, there was a cop in the salon because they called saying they were concerned. I have done nothing wrong but ask for a pixie cut that was approved and thought about for a while but instead they refused and said I can only get a trim and called the cops on me. I had done nothing wrong and had never had a run-in with the police and that was very upsetting. I had been ill for a few weeks so I thought I finally am receiving the cut I have been wanting. It was humiliating for a salon to be so racist to call the police only because we are an interracial couple. After being sick and calling salons all day to get my hair done and not being able to get the cut I want, is horrible service. There was no need for the police to be called. If you are a person of color, don't go to this salon. They are obviously racist but of course will deny it. They will question everything and say it's strange and call the police even when everything is fine. If you are joining the military, don't go to this salon since they want to be condescending and think they know so much about military hair. Beware, you might get the cops called on you and/or an excuse why they can't cut your hair! 140 Salon, you guys had no right to do what you did and you guys should be ashamed! P.S. I wonder what the response from the owner will be like....
They took me as a walk in for a blow out. The girl that did it and the front desk staff were super nice and accommodating. Prices are reasonable. The floors and work stations at the blow bar were kinda dirty but not totally unexpected. Would return.
Had the best experience here. Came in with dry and beat up hair and came out very satisfied even if 5in needed to be cut from my head. I love the end result. Out with the old and damage, in with the new and healthy hair. Sarah made me feel at home and comfortable, she complimented my hair even when I thought it was horrible. She recommended a deep conditioning which left my hair so soft and manageable. Thank you for such great customer service. I came early and the place is clean and was not busy which made the experience relaxing and fun. I spent an hour, had a cut, deep conditioning, wash, drying, and blowout plus layers for an affordable price.
Great place for women and men haircuts and styling.
They fit me in when the appointment didn’t show on their record and were very happy and welcoming. Can’t wait to go back!!

This is where my Frank is! Love it and him!!
I have been waiting to write this review because I was hoping some of my many problems would be resolved. I went to the Southpoint location three weeks ago, which is dingy and not what you want from a salon experience. I needed a root touch up for my root shadow and balayage just to blen my highlights in. The stylist told me on repeated occasions that she didn’t know how to use their color line, which was proven by the 5 times she tried to dye my roots with no success. Additionally, she turned my blonde hair grey/purple. After 3.5 hours, I have purple hair and my roots were still not done. She then proceeded to charge me $170 despite stating that she knew it wasn’t right. She also talked about running her ex-husband over with her car while she was doing my hair. She had to wash my hair 5 times in total, which left my hair dry and damaged. I left the salon in tears (first time ever at any salon) and called the manager at the other location. She offered for me to come to the other location to have my hair fixed. Despite my frustration because I had already spent so much time there, I decided to go and let them fix it. Laurie fixed my hair for me, and she was the only positive part of this experience. The owner, who doesn’t even have a cosmetology license, told me it wouldn’t take long to fix my hair, but, as expected, Laurie said first thing that it would take a while. The owner also tried to tell me my hair wouldn’t be damaged after all this, but obviously it was. I couldn’t wash my hair for 6 days after this because it was so dry. Two hours later, my hair was fixed, but I called the owner back to express that I wanted a portion of my money back considering the whole ordeal took 7 hours out of my Friday. To top it off, she called me at 7 on a Sunday night to discuss a refund, and when I called her back on Monday I left a message but never heard back from her. Don’t take your business here.
WOW. I first went to the dry bar for an eyebrow wax in October. At first I thought ~$15 for a wax job was insane. But Tiffany was amazing and she did a fantastic job!! After a month, I still didn't need another visit (had to pluck a few at home, but that's it). I've gone back 2 times since and absolutely love it!!! Every time I go, I request Tiffany. She's fantastic at her job and I truly love talking to her. Worth the wait and money!!

Have been getting haircuts from Jordan. She is excellent!
Carmen is awesome!
I just have to say that I am SO impressed with 140 Salon. I have had two great experiences, my most recent one being a blow out on my wedding day. Skylar did such a great job and she's so kind. I went for a bold red look and it turned out gorgeous. I am a permanent client. Thanks again for helping make my special day perfect. Edit: just added some pics for reference
I can't say enough good things about Samantha. I always love the way my hair looks when "Sam" cuts and styles it. She is also a delight to visit with. I always look forward to seeing her.
I highly recommend this place. Sarah P. gives me a great haircut everytime!
Great experience; Amy was so nice, well-qualified, careful, and double checked my preferences re hairspray, etc. thanks!
Let me start by saying I hate getting my hair cut. I have long thick curly hair and most stylists don't listen to what I want so I tend to put off haircuts. However I received the best haircut I've had in years on Sunday from Sarah Smith. Not only did she follow my requests, she was so meticulous that my hair hasn't looked better! I left feeling beautiful and not in tears 20 minutes later! I STRONGLY recommend checking 140 out and if you are looking for a stylist recommendation, I recommend Sarah!
My daughter works here as a master stylist and colorist. She is the best in the world!!! Her name is Kara, and I constantly get compliments when she does my hair.
When the receptionist asked if I was satisfied with my service, I had to say yes, because I wasn't going to let the stylist try to correct her awful work, and I didn't have time. Better not to go shorter... I will just have to grow this out and have someone else fix it. I have very fine, straight hair that shows "cut marks" easily, but competent, professionally trained stylists should be able to handle it. Not here. I left with a horribly choppy, uneven cut, with weird, obvious scissor marks and random long strands she simply missed. I had asked for something extremely simple: a short trim and a few more layers. But I honestly could have done a better job myself. I'm so bummed. This was after waiting fifteen minutes to be seen on a slow day. Two stars only for the nice ambiance and friendly receptionist. I won't be going back.
Had a blowout here with Skylar before a rehearsal dinner/wedding. It was a great experience, very relaxing and I left feeling like a million bucks. My hair held it's style all night and I got tons of compliments. I look forward to going back sometime soon - and I recommend Skylar if you're looking for a great stylist!
Brooke is fantastic
Lolo's Mommie 2.
The owner is my sister and she does not charge her family for haircuts, styles and highlights. All the stylist I've ever been to there has always had my approval in mind. They have always went out of their way to make sure I leave happy with my hair, Mary has the best stylist at 140 in all of North Carolina in my opinion, thank all of you that has cut. Styled, and/or highlighted my hair and that has had anything to do with my hair!!! I will not go anywhere else. Not even to my other sisters salon, only because at 140 they have always been so nice and respectful, other place not so much! And I agree Heather and Ashleigh is awesome!!!
Heather is seriously THE BOMB!!! Such a positive, upbeat person who gave me the best haircut I've had since moving here from upstate 12 years ago!! I'm NEVER happy with a haircut and she gave me my dream hair. I woke up this morning and styled it again and it came out as beautiful as when she did it yesterday. Thank you Heather!! They're so lucky to have you on board as a stylist!!
Love this place! They have a great vibe, and make sure that you're always comfortable, whether it's with a complimentary glass of water, coffee, or wine. I just saw Ashley for my first time and I'd recommend her hands down! She did a cut and highlights and I've never been so pleased with how highlights have turned out. Highly recommend!
I've been seeing Erin at One Forty every month since I moved to Durham almost two years ago. Prior to Durham, I was spending a fortune at an NYC salon and yet my hair was in bad shape. Since seeing Erin, my hair has become healthier and longer than I ever thought possible. She has colored my hair everything from dark brown to balayage, is always up for trying new things, and never ever disappoints. She is a great listener and will get your color exactly the shade you're looking for even if it means spending some extra time to get it just right. Coloring aside, she is also probably the only stylist I've ever had who doesn't cut off too much hair when you ask for a trim. She knows just how much to take off to see and feel a difference in the health of your hair and her blow outs are flawless every single time. I always look forward to my visits with her not just knowing how awesome my hair will look when I leave but getting to catch up with her as well. She is an absolute sweetheart and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. If you're looking for a new salon and stylist, I cannot recommend Erin and One Forty enough!
Love the feel of the space and had a great experience.
The actual salon is nice, beautiful atmosphere and good location. The customer service however, not so much. My stylist was Erin she was not friendly or talkative and seemed to have an attitude the entire time. She almost seemed out of it. The price was outrageous for how horrible my hair turned out, I will never go back again. if you go here, you may enjoy your experience as long as you see another stylist.
Super good wash and blow dry! Great price and excellent products.
