In 1973 Mary Toffoli opened “Mary’s Beauty Boutique” in Southgate, Michigan. Two years later, she married Gary Rushlow and they began a new joint venture, Headway Salon. For more than 30 years, Mary and Gary owned and operated Headway while raising three children, Jacob, Jerad and Jenee. In 2007, Jerad and Jenee relocated, rebranded and expanded the thriving family business, adding spa services to become “Daybreak Salon and Spa” in Woodhaven, Michigan. The tradition of highly talented, professional experts who greet and treat each client as a valued guest grew its Downriver presence with a second location on the corner of Biddle and Elm in Wyandotte. For almost 40 years, the Rushlow family has been an high achieving member of the AVEDA family serving its mission and heritage to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society and to strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.
